Ok, Play-Asia's email was apparently a series of mis-information (http://themushroomkingdom.net/board/index.php?topic=11490.0) (sort of). NCSX, which you might recall carries a warehouse full of cool gaming merchandise (http://themushroomkingdom.net/board/index.php?topic=11470.0), has tested Mario Kart Wii (http://themushroomkingdom.net/games/mkwii) (JP version) on their US Wii's using Freeloader. It definitely DOES work for them, however, there is a catch. Read the details at their blog below!

But they only tested firmware 3.1U... firmware 3.2U includes the exploit patch.
