Boy, never would've thought of this...
Best: SM64's, of course, for its classic face-stretching hilarity. I must give props, though, to SMS's running-around level select (does that count?)
Worst: Super Mario Bros. 2. It's just... there. (And not even original, at that)
-
Best: Super Mario 64. No title screen can beat a distorted, stretched-out Mario face.
Worst: Mario Bros. Genericness killed it.
-
Best: Super Mario Galaxy - absolutely beautiful.
Worst: Mario Bros. It was just a picture.
-
I'm going with CrzyFlmngMnkyHead.
-
Best: Paper Mario TTYD
Worst: Mario Kart Wii
Vote for Best Fortress/bowser/castle music!
-
I vote for best Mario sports game.
-
Uh. SM64's title screen is really the short appearance of the title when Mario says, "It's a me! Mario!"
Best: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. The same way Super Mario RPG's intro makes you want to play SMRPG, TTYD's title screen makes you want to play TTYD.
Worst: Mario Kart Wii. The picture of Mario and Luigi butt racing got old by the second time, and considering that it's on the box and the box inside that box, it's already old by the time you turn on the game. Then there are the almost less aggravatingly simple and thoughtless ones that appear after you clear all the grand prix with gold. Unlike the title screens of most other Mario Karts (Super Circuit and DS had some bad title screens), Mario Kart Wii's title screens do not make me want to play the game.
-
Best - Super Mario Bros. 3; the whole Mario and Luigi fighting is classic.
Worst - Super Mario Bros.; it's too simplistic for my liking.

Oh.. I never really considered the spin-offs, but... yeah, definitely MKW.
-
BEST: SM64 for hilarity (even if it is a little creepy when you're 5).
WORST: Mario Bros.
-
Best: SNES Mario is Missing. Mario walks in, reads the title, and as he realizes the implications of it, a hole opens up beneath him. Then he lands in Antarctica, where he meets Luigi and Yoshi before another hole appears beneath him. Pretty cool.
Worst: Mario Kart Wii. Too sterile. The movie makes up for it a little bit, but it loses points for only being triggered by staring at the boring title screen long enough and for being mean to Luigi.
-
(two votes in the BEST category)
BEST: 1. PM: TTYD. The great intro combined with the music make it very theater-like.
2. Super Mario Galaxy. It has a very magical feel to it.
WORST: Mario Superstar Baseball. It was not that attractive and the music wasn't the best. (SMB doesn't count in my opinion, because there really wasn't money for flashy title screens back in 1985)
-
I vote SMS because...
dun....dun...dun dun dun duhhh...
SUPA MARIO SUNSHINE!! WAHOO!!
And thats ownage.
For worst, I'd say SMB2 just because.
-
Best: SMW for the catchy music and demo
Worst: MKW
-
Worst: Mario Bros. Genericness killed it.
Actually, the original arcade version (and Atari 8-bit) was pretty cool: The letters in Mario Bros. start out upside-down, and the bros. run out and punch them from below, flipping them back to normal.
-
They did that on all the Super Mario Advance games, too. But I still think there are better title screens out there.
-
And now...the results!
BEST:
Super Mario 64 (5)
Super Mario Galaxy (1.50)
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (2.50)
Super Mario Bros. 3 (1)
Mario is Missing! (1)
Super Mario Sunshine (1)
Super Mario World (1)
WORST:
Super Mario Bros 2 (Japanese) (2)
Mario Bros (3)
Mario Kart Wii (3)
Super Mario Bros (1)
Mario Superstar Baseball (1)
NOMINATIONS:
Best bowser/fortress/castle music (7)
Best Mario Sports game (2)
Best Level (1)
(Nominations require 10 votes to become a reality)
Sigh...another tie. If anyone wants to tiebreak it, you can. Otherwise, they'll both win if nothing happens by Sunday. Adios.
-
Best: Super Mario World, because it actually had action on it. The screens most people are thinking of are either the demo movies that play after the title screen (Mario Kart Wii) or the file select screen (Mario Sunshine).
Worst: hmm.. For console games, it's a toss up between Mario Kart Wii (mabey the development team spent too much time visiting YTMND) and SMB2 (curtain background with characters on it that don't move! Exciting!). If I have to choose just one, then Mario Kart Wii, because I was too young to care what the SMB2 title screen looked like.
-
Ah, the only tie is for the Worst. And that's Mario Kart Wii, surely.
-
Mario Kart Wii for worst.
-
Yeah, MKWii for sure (I can cut Mario Bros. some slack for basically being the first Mario game).
-
Best: Super Mario 64, for the sheer thrill of stretching Mario's face.
Worst: Mario Bros., not really all that great.
-
It's interesting, really... the first and most recent Mario games are tying for worst title screen.
-
Super Mario 64 has the best title screen because you can mess around with Mario's head.
-
I vote (too late?) for Super Mario All Stars, because after it you can choose a game and see another title screen, then you play...
Sorry... I think there was something weird in my tacos...
-
Super Mario 64 is definitely the best obviously because you can distort Mario's head.
The worst is Super Mario Bros. cause it was just a frozen screen.
-
No it wasn't. If you wait a bit, he takes off and gets killed by a Goomba. It spoils the game's bad ending but whatever.
-
You forgot the version where he actually doesn't get killed.
-
Actually I didn't forget it, I just didn't want to bother with explaining it.
-
Who would have thought my Sarcasm MeterTM would register in this long-dead topic?

I want that edition.
-
If you own the game, you already have that edition.
seriously pay attention man
-
Why do people still vote when it ended 3 months ago?

That's the thing, though... I don't own the game and never did, except Deluxe on the GB.
-

Because they don't seriously pay attention man
-
Best: Dr. Mario
Worst: Paper Mario.
