Title: Music in SMG (possible lite spoilers)
Post by: Turtlekid1 on May 24, 2008, 09:15:46 AM
So, it seems to be general opinion that the music in SMG is some of the best game music ever, but of that music, which is the best for:

New Tracks (new themes for the game)?
Returning Themes (Airship Theme, Koopa's Road, etc.)?

For new tracks, I really like the music for Gusty Garden Galaxy.
For old tracks, I would probably say either the Overworld 2 theme from SMB3 or Koopa's Road (music for the Bowser levels).

Best Old: SMB3 Airship music, Toy Time music.

Woah! Man, just... get that game, ASAP.

Oh, yeah, how could I forget about that Bowser music? (especially the final battle one) Totally add that one to my list--most awesomely epic music ever (at least in a Mario game).

What? How!?

Step one: Find rips on YouTube Buoy Base Galaxy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4TvXKyortQ&feature=PlayList&p=081B4D07FAA42914&index=26)
Step 2: Copy and paste the YouTube vid's URL to Mediaconverter or similar FLV converter sites
Step 3: Select the format you want the .flv converted to.  If you just want to rip the sound from a YouTube vid, select a sound format.
Step 4: Mediaconverter will download the YouTube vid and convert the .flv to your selected format.
Step 5: Download that converted file, and you're set

Yeah there's a lot better way to get it, i.e. an actual sound file rip.

Yeah.  The trick there is finding it.  Galbadia Hotel has a lot of VG soundtracks, but I don't know if they have Galaxy yet.

No, there are better places which I'm not at liberty to disclose.

I keep reading the topic title as "possible life spoilers."

Santa's not real! The stork is sex! Everyone you know will one day be dead!

There's this one place that had a torrent for the whole soundtrack, but it won't work. I think I need to download one of those torrent programs, but my dad's always jittery about me getting huge stuff off of the internet.

I purchased the 81-track soundtrack at www.play-asia.com before the Platinum version went out of stock. Best $20 I've ever spent.

I'm thinking I'll just buy it online eventually.

Pay attention to the last two posts for why you can't do that.

Why so? I could swear I saw a site a week or two ago that was selling it for, like, $30...

Oh!  I forgot to mention the Comet Observatory theme.  You don't see many waltzes (is that a real word?) in a game, but that one fit SMG pretty well.

Actually the plural is waltzi.

I think of Cinderella every time I hear that song.

Haha funny. It reminds me of Disneyworld.

Favorite original music: Bowser Battle Themes, Good Egg Galaxy, Gusty Garden Galaxy, Star Festival, Speedy Comet, Purple Comet
Favorite remixed music: Toy Time Galaxy, Bowser's Road, Sweet Sweet Galaxy, "Athletic Cosmos"

Speedy Comet is my top-favorite theme in the whole game. The tension and the suspense of either racing against the clock or trying to avoid all danger is nailed perfectly.

The song that plays over the credits is kind of a remix, but I still love that one.

It's like a "best of" for Galaxy's soundtrack.  It does a good job of making you recall the levels that had that background music originally.

I like 'em all, but if I'm to pick one new and old...
New: Good Egg Galaxy
Old: Toy Time Galaxy

Best new song is definately Purple Coins.
Best returning song is Koopa's Road. I've loved that song ever since I first heard it.
