Title: What Is Up With These Super Bowl Ads?
Post by: Glorb on February 07, 2010, 06:33:11 PM
It's 3rd and 3, and so far, Budweiser has the best commercials, as always.

Why are they playing football at a Who concert?

I was studying for an economics test in another room for most of the game, but it seemed like the ads weren't as great as previous years'.

I managed to see 0% of the Super Bowl this year!

Kalee and I watched Sayonara, Zetsubou Sensei! instead of the Super Bowl. Far more enjoyable, I'd say.

I have seen zip ads this year. I missed the The Who concert though.

The one Super Bowl I watched was the 2006 game of the Seahawks versus the Steelers. The Steelers won, or as some people believe, the referees won.

Thanks to HughesNet, I'll have to wait until 11:00pm before I look at the commercials (I forgot about it last night). So I'll post tonight on what I thought.

Several ads were good but not memorable, but I did like the screaming chickens one (er, whichever Dennys commercial had them screaming the longest), and we can count on Budweiser to have those heartwarming Clydesdale commercials. And I liked the one where the two guys had to quickly find out the phrase for "I surrender" before getting plowed into by a sumo guy.

My brother said there was some ad with Tay Zonday, David after Dentist, the Numa Numa kid, and a bunch of other viral video stars, but I just missed it.

The funny thing is that every name you mentioned there has fallen to the cultural wayside... which, of course, means that the media has just discovered them.

Anyway, I would still like to know why so many people paid hundreds of dollars to attend The World's Shortest Who Concert.

I heard it was the world's worst Who concert, too.

That reminds me of a Robot Chicken skit I didn't understand the first time around. It shows a wacky-dressed guy at a baseball field standing on first base, he stands there for a few seconds before yelling "Do you get it?" The guy is Dr. Who. So Who's on first. Get it? Ha ha. Given the instant gratification of violence that the show usually has, it was probably over the heads of many viewers who suddenly had to think during a five-second timespan.

I was disappointed by the Who. I was expecting them to go more out of the box with there songs, like in previous cuts. Insted, all we got were those cookie-cutter album cuts. Also, it was just stupid of him to try to sing it as high as he could when he was twenty. The whole affair was just sad.

Did they play "Teenage Wasteland" or "Won’t Get Fooled Again"? Those are my two favorite songs.

WHOOO TLW's BACK

Anyways, at least they made an effort to perform the songs faithfully to the original recordings, rather than screw up the pace/instrumentation/whatever as so many aging live acts do.

EDIT: /me seriously considers *****-slapping nenson

The Who are too old. With their stage presence gone, they just aren't the same. But c'mon, "Teenage Wasteland" is like my favorite The Who song.

Teenage Wasteland
Teenage Wasteland

Y'all had best be trolling. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baba_O'Riley)

Okay, first off, do you gross old man Canadians even watch the Super Bowl? How the hell do you know if The Who played? Second, why the hell would you watch the Super Bowl just to watch a bunch of dying old men play Teenage Wasteland and the CSI theme song?

Teenage Wasteland and the CSI theme song

(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv519%2Fresidentlune%2FPLFrontier-1.png&hash=80d4ec45df31d32a94f72f2074d7fe5d)

Also, according to a recent poll, over 50% of Canadians watched the Super Bowl mainly for the ads and halftime entertainment. In other words, most Canadians would rather pee during the game than miss the commercials. That's how much we care.

You do realize the majority of Football fans are Americans?

Of course its a given Canadians wouldn't care about our sport. Nobody else does either.

Teenage Wasteland is the CSI theme song, you derp. At least the CSI: NY theme. They played the CSI: Miami theme too. That first song was weird though.

1. There is no such song as "Teenage Wasteland". That song's title is "Baba O'Riley".
2. "Baba O'Riley" is CSI: NY's theme, and "Won't Get Fooled Again" is the theme song of CSI: Miami. Both were recorded for the Who's 1971 album, Who's Next.
3. The fact that you've never heard "Pinball Wizard" until now is pitiful, Solid.

I was simply clarifying matters for those, if anyone, who weren't trolling in the first place. I'm sorry, but the wealth of musical ignorance in this thread is appalling.

You didn't know the word "limp-wristed".
You didn't know what Magic Eye pictures were.
You don't put your own socks on.

Wait, The Who did a cover of the CSI theme song? You'd think such a famous band would have enough original songs to play.

So, after boycotting Doritos because of their retarded Super Bowl ads, I received a case of them in the mail.

I was treated to a viewing of those ads last night. They were good; I was surprised.

The one with the little kid was painfully unfunny.

Wait, so, did you send them a formal letter notifying them of your boycott?

They were sent from Amazon, so I'm inclined to believe that they were sent by a third party.

The one with the little kid was painfully unfunny.

Surely not the one with the little kid saying "Keep your hands off my mama, and keep your hands on my Doritos!"?  That was the only funny Doritos commercial.

Artificially quippy young black kids weren't even funny in the time of Diff'rent Strokes.

I wince every time I see the controller drop.

Two questions for Solid:
1) Did the shipment end your boycott?
2) What did your family say?
Title: Re: What Is Up With These Super Bowl Ads?

My boycott is still standing. It's gonna be difficult to keep up though. It'll stop when I see a non-stupid Doritos ad. My family didn't really say much, just "is this guy rich?" and "he should have sent ranch Doritos instead" (please don't send ranch Doritos now).

All my friends agreed that we needed Doritos samurai suits. That is all.

"he should have sent ranch Doritos instead"
Did they decide this by eating them, spitting them out and firing their food guy?
