how in the world did atari get permission to use mario? did they invent him? or did mr. miyamoto? if you want to see a picture check out this web page---->

Well, prior to Nintendo's entering the home console market, they made their games Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. for the arcade and then converted them to Atari games.  Atari was the only home video game console.  Nintendo then saw Atari quickly dying and said, "Hey, we can make a cooler system than that.  And we can use our awesome character, Mario, as a mascot!"  So they did.  :)
