Simply put, Sony is trying to copy Nintendo's success. Have they succeeded?
If you look at the amount of PS2's sold compared to the amount of GameCubes, then yes Sony has succeeded in copying the success of Nintendo.
Sony has studied the strategies of their biggest rival on the videogame competition, and has somewhat improved on them by creating some awefully clever marketing strategies of their own (Crash Bandicoot commericals anyone?).
Also, you have probably noticed that Sony has dubbed the PS2 as "the future of entertainment", this clearly states that Sony is putting no stops to ensure the worldwide success of the PlayStation franchise! That is the same type of thing Nintendo has done with their systems: build upon an already-established successful franshise and mass-market it to the public in order to gain the most support off of it. (That probably made no sense at all... but you know what I meant!)
Also, you may have noticed that Sony's partners at NaughtyDog and Universal Interactive have copied the successful formula of Mario games by creating Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. Both games have proven to be extremely successful on the PlayStation 1 system. This has been another attempt by Sony to recreate the success of Nintendo, and actually succeed at doing it!
Will the Nintendo vs. Sony competition ever end? Only for 2 reasons:
-if either Nintendo or Sony decide to back out of the competition for some reason.
-if a new company takes over the success of Nintendo and Sony, and becomes the newleader in the videogame industry.
One of these choices is bound to happen sooner or later. Obviously not now, since Microsoft is so horrible with making videogames, they have no chance at succeeding!

Of couse Sony "wants" as you say to be the Next nintendo. But i hope you're talking about the Nintendo of Yore, during the days of the NES and SNES. Because, we all know Nintendo's been falling ever since N64. No matter how good it is.

Nintendo has made a big comeback with the 'Cube. And they'll get even more successfull with the release of Super Mario Sunshine, Zelda, and Metroid Prime!

Agreed. But it's not going to make them king. Knowing all the other games for other systems and all the people who abandoned Nintendo, it's still falling. I'm not saying I want it to, no way! I'm just impling that Nintendo is no longer king. And for now, it seems as though they never will be. Onlt time will tell...

Practically every non-Nintendo franchise out there is worthless and irrelevant. And who wants to get sucked into that "PS9" that they were advertising? Full brain linkup? You can smell stuff? Yeah! Sure! Just hold a stupid ball in your hand with diodes conected to your head. That is so freaky...
It sure gets boring having the same signature all the time. See what I mean?

Well, if Nintendo does end up failing to the success of PlayStation and Ecchh-Box, then I will pray to the almighty Shigeru Miyamoto that Nintendo will do whatever it takes to stay alive--even if it means producing games for those two b*st*rd comapnies!

Nintendo used to be the bomb. I had tons of fun with NES, SNES, and I was amazed when N64 came out, but the truth is, they have been dropping since N64. Because more competition is racking up, Nintendo will not have the same successes they had long ago.

Uh oh, I am starting to see a pattern here...
Sega made a big comeback with the Dreamcast when their Saturn system failed, and look what happened to them now! Now Sega's a 3rd-party game developer, making games for other consoles!
This may happen to Nintendo, if they don't get things settled in the coming years... Nintendo's future may be just like Sega's--3rd-party publisher! Oh NOOOOOOOOooooooooo... ... !

until sony and x-box properly establish themselves with unique characters (e.g mario universe/zelda universe) and until they make interesting games that have a good story line (excluding FF series of games) and until they produce a game that will shatter SMB3, then i will stick with Nintendo!!

Sony already has established themselves with unique characters: Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. But now those games are coming to other systems...oh well.
I did not mean to offend any Sony fans, I like Sony alot myself! Microsoft is the one who should be dissed cause no one likes them! LOL

To clear a few things up:
1. Some people have said that if you don't like Xbox you shouldn't like Windows. Well, they are two separate entities, and Bill Gates doesn't even have any control over what the company does anymore.
2. Sony is evil.
3. Nintendo will never become 3rd party beacuse in Japan, everybody likes them better than anything else.

Nintedo is not as popular as it once was, thanks to these other successful platforms. Most of you people won't even give the PS2 or the Xbox a chance. I agre that Xbox is not doing all that well at all, but the machine is incredable! And if you don't play PS(2), than you're missing out on a world or amazing games. Sony is not copying Nintendo at all, they're just marketing. It's called business folks. Besides, other companies actually make the majority of the games for the PS2, and PSone. If any of you people that are so stuck on "just Nintendd" consider yourselves to be true gammers, than you should play on multiple platforms.

Nintendofreak, you've just revived 5 or so topics, all stating one line opinions entirely against the PS2 and X-Box. Are you aware you're posting in topics over a year old?
I've noticed you've done that a lot lately, and I've been nice about it. But seriously, if you're going to be reviving topics, at least make a semi-intelligent post. Just say "PS2 and X-Box suck, Nintendo rules." five times really isn't the way to go.
Try explaining yourself, WHY do you dislike the PS2 and X-Box? Had I thought you've known me a bit better, I'd believe you were just trying to make me angry, but I figure that's not the case. And so, why not express yourself a bit more.

There, BoltMan has already said much of what I had wished to do myself. Actually, he may have done a better job of it than I could have done.
But one thing I thought was particularly funny was that this topic claimed that Sony was "copying" Nintendo.

You see, I tried to read that seriously, but every time I do, I end up laughing. That argument just doesn't make any sense. I'm not trying to be mean here, but seriously, what else should Sony have done? Should they have gone out trying to acquire world-wide success without establishing their franchise first? You can't expect to succeed without planning, and just because Nintendo did it first, doesn't make it wrong for another company to do so. As BoltMan said, it's NORMAL marketing.
I tire of these arguments, though. It's entirely due to narrow-mindedness and the unwillingness to try new things.

I have a few points.
1. Nintendo will NEVER become a 3rd party game developer. Nintendo still has all the rights to the following popular series: Mario, Zelda, Metroid, F-Zero, Pokemon, Star-Fox, Wario Land. If Nintendo can please the fans of all of their popular series, they practically have it made.
2. The X-Box relies too much on graphics, and not enough on substance. Games need some sort of substance.
3. The PS2 relies on extras a little too much. I mean I would never buy a video game system just because I can watch DVD's and play CD's on it.

I can say what I want to say. and not all of them are against the PS2 and X-Box. One of them is reporting a glitch in SMS. And the X-Box scratches its own discs. Also, if you want a long and honest(well,to you)answer, got to General Chat, go to the topic "now,the xbox doesn't suck that bad" which I revived, go to the bottom of page 2. You will find my long and honest answer.

That's the problem. A one liner saying "I agree with [User Name]." is simply spam. It offers no insight as to why you agree with them.

I care what you post because I read it. If I simply didn't care what anyone posted, what would be the point of coming here? To have conversations with myself? Bah, I'm doing that half the time anyway, and that's plenty. Yeah you can say what you want, but making the most out of your posts would certainly be a nice change.

I was only referring to the topics you've revived concerning the PS2, X-Box, and GCN, not EVERY topic you've posted in.
