Title: Anchor a la SMB3

I've always wondered how to use the Anchor in Super Mario Bros. 3.  I feel wierd, because I am the greatest Mario master in town, and I have no idea how to use the anchor.  (This is Super Mario All-Stars) because, I use the anchor, nothing happens, the ship doesn't stop moving.  Do I have to press buttons or something?

You might need to be at an adjacent spot to the ship.
