Title: Can Donkey Kong be considered a Mario character?
Post by: Jake on August 14, 2003, 09:02:36 PM
I like DK and all, but the question is, can he be considered a Mario character? On G4's Blister, the host was talking about the characters in Mario Party 4, and one thing he said was "that free-loading Donkey Kong". I think he's a Mario character. He's been with Mario since the don of time (okay, so that was his dad, Crankey Kong, but that still counts).

Well, I think DK isn't too out of place in the Mario universe. I don't think they should keep bringing over more of the other characters though. Diddy's appearance in MK:DD is novel, but I hope it won't start a trend.

DK has always been the same, in Mario games, since Donkey Kong. Cranky Kong is... something else.

Eccentricity is my goal.

From the look of things I'd say no.

Actually Quasar, Diddy Kong also recently appeared in the new Mario Golf game for GCN. Lets just hope they don't bring Pikachu in Mario games (not that I don't like Pokemon, but that would just be plain stupid).

Yes, but nobody else. I don't think they should add Diddy or anyone else anymore. D.K., and nobody else.

As much as I love to hear you fellows argue about Sponge Bob, I think it's best if you do so else-where.

Now, if anything, I would consider Mario a Donkey Kong character. Mario took his big break from Donkey Kong's game, after all.

I do not mind the parallels of the two series, as they're closely intertwined. However, Cranky Kong IS the original Donkey Kong. I don't care to debate it with any of you, however. Believe what you wish.

But no, I wouldn't consider Donkey Kong a Mario character. Not in a heartbeat.
