The file mario.exe I just downloaded comes
with two other files with the extension .da1
and .da2 what do they do

I think those are data files used by the game for various things.  (Please correct me if I'm wrong- I'm not sure myself.)  Chances are the files are necessary for the game to run.

no, I ran it by itself  and it worked without them.

Oh... did you completely delete the files or simply move them to another directory?

Like I said, I really don't know.

I deleted them but it works fine
