Title: The idiots on VH1
Post by: Chupperson Weird on October 21, 2003, 08:45:27 PM
Stumbling through the TV channels, I came across "I Love the '80s Strikes Back". There was a segment about Donkey Kong. Well. Not only are the people unable to pronounce "Mario" correctly, some idiot told the whole world that Donkey Kong was supposed to be "Monkey Kong." That made me so incredibly mad! The stupid people didn't even check their sources! AAARRRGHHH!!!

Uh...its true dude. It had something to do with japanese translation or something. I've known this for years.

Actually, this Monkey Kong thing was based on a very old, popular rumour which is also based on how Nintendo named Donkey Kong.
Fortunately, this old rumour was not true...

I am a pure Super Mario lover!!
...and in no point in the future will he ever be abandonded by me!
I will even drawn the best Super Mario comics ever to exist!!

No, SL, it has nothing to do with monkey (except the Kong part). Miyamoto looked up "silly/stupid" in a Japanese to English dictionary and it said "donkey." That is the real story.

Let's write mail to VH1 demanding they make an apology and correction!

Actually, it was due to a bad phone connection from what I remember. Not sure though...

Oh, and for any VH1 folks here: If you can't pronounce "Mario," you're an idiot.

"Uh...its true dude."

You also said THAT to a blatently untrue statement.

And Trainman, what are you doing? I already told the real explanation, so no need to put further fake ones.

I’m not stupid, I’m LD.

This reminds me of the time during the last E3 that a CNN guy said that he thought the a game on the screen (Super Mario Bros. 3) was a Nintendo 64 game.

Did you see the "Not sure though..." portion of my post? I wasn't sure if it was fake. I wasn't starting a rumor or nayhting like that.

also if you have ever played kung fu chaos (I dont own an x-box my friend does... dont worry I convinced him to by a GCN too...)
every time you mess up the director says "Donkey!" which would mean "Stupid!" so donkey kong in reality means "Stupid Monkey"
Stupid Monkey should know this I would bet XD!

Okay, it looks like half of you guys didn't see Shiggy's official announcement that he was trying to find a word for "stubborn/silly" in the English dictionary and that's where he came up with "donkey." It has nothing to do with a miscommunication or error or anything of that sort.
Look it up. It's in the TMK news, a few months ago.
Also, I'm pretty sure he says that in the Mario Mania Players' Guide...

It's not. I have the Mario Mania players guide and no where in there does it say.

Alright then, but it's STILL linked somewhere on TMK's news page.

Actually, Shigamoto called it Donkey Kong because he thought it ment "Stubborn ape". The suited DK well, actually.

Hey, Screech... Are you a Weird Al fan? Because isn't "The Videots on UHF" what somebody said on the UHF DVD about the title of the movie in foreign countries? Or, am I making absolutely no sense to you?
