Does anyone know what are the chances of getting a special item, like a Giant Banana?

No, but I do know that the chances are not equal from item to item.
That is, You'll get a lot more of Yoshi's eggs than you will Baby Mario's chain chomps.

That's for sure. Odd, though, because I seem to get more chain chomps than Yoshi eggs when using King Boo.

Here are the places for the greatest chances of getting any of the speshial items:

FIREBALLS: 3rd 4th 5th 6th place

HEART: further you fall behind

YOSHI OR BIRDO EGG: 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th place

CHAIN CHOMP: further you fall behind

x3 SHELL: 3rd 4th 5th 6th place

GIANT BANANA: closer to 1st place

BOWSER SHELL: 3rd 4th 5th 6th place

BOB-OMB: 3rd 4th 5th 6th place

SUPER MUSHROOM: further you fall behind

Time Trial passwords
On the "Retry / Change Course / ..." screen after a time trial race, press L R L R X Y X Y Z and a password will pop up at the bottom. So far, only Nintendo of Japan has made use of the password system for a contest.


Does anyone know any passwords for Mario Kart: Double Dash in the US?

Also, whats a good website for cheats, shortcuts, unlockables, etc?

How sad; I have all the music and tons of screenshots from Mario Kart Double Dash, but I don't even have a Game Cube or the game.
