hey I diddn't see anything but a big box with an X on the top left. What did I do wrong?

Simply put, geocities doesn't allow direct linking.  Were that picture on a more lenient server, it would've showed up.
You can just post the URL, and it'll work.  Or, if you're able, change the file's name from toadappears.jpg to toadappears.txt and link to that.
