Title: PM:TTYD Complete?
Post by: Luigison on November 12, 2004, 08:35:17 AM
When I started Paper Mario 2 I rushed through everything. After a few chapters I decided to complete everything in the game.

I had gone through the ranks in Glitzville the first time without doing any tattles. After finishing the Glitzville chapter I was severly handicaped by my low hit points because I had rushed through the game so far and used all my level ups for badge points. So I went through the ranks again to level up and got a lot, but not all of the tattles.

I wasn't worried about getting all of the tattles because I figured I could find them in the trash at the end, but they were not there. I assumed I could go back through the Glitzville ranks again, and went on to play the next chapter and work on completing other stuff.

I have now made it all the way to the final boss of the game I went back to Glitzville, but even after losing several fights I can't drop below a rank of second, and therefor cannot get down to the seven or so tattles I missed.

Is there a way to drop my rank and play through all the battles at Glitzville a third time?

I did not put this in game help because we can use it to discuss how complete our games are.

I have:
all the recipes,
all of Luigi's stories,
all the stories from the guy on the roof in Rogueport,
all but seven star pieces,
all but three shine sprites,
all but 3 badges (at least two are still in the pit),
93 badge points,
am at level 30 something,
am an A-list Superstar (I think),
completed the troubles,
most, but not all the tattles (see above),
made it to the last boss, but have not beat her.

After beating the final boss will new troubles or anything else appear?

How can I complete tattles (like those in Glitzville) that I missed and are not in the professors trash?

Hmm I hadn't even thought about missing the tattles from the Glitz Pit. I got most of them the second time through but there's still a few I don't have... so I might be in the same boat as you. :/

To answer your question about beating the game... there's an end sequence, but you can continue playing after that. There are some new things unlocked after you beat the game, including a few new troubles. Many of people you talk to will say new things as well, thanking you for saving the world and such. :) Also, if you haven't made it through the Pit of 100 trials yet, that's something you can shoot for. I found that to be much harder than the last boss.

Anyway, I beat the game just yesterday. Here is where I stand...

56:14 play time :o
Level 35, 45 HP, 40 FP, 63 BP
All of Luigi's books.
All of Grifty's stories.
All of Wonky's tips.
All the shine sprites.
All but five star pieces.
All but two badges. (One is Money Money. I don't know what the other is, but it's right next to Lucky Day, so I'm assuming it's Lucky Day P.)
All troubles completed except the last one (Swob's "Clean this Graffitti!"), which I am working on right now.
Superstar stage.
High score in all of the Pianta Parlor minis.

I have like, five recipes. I just can't figure any of them out. I mean except for the ones people told me about. :/

I think I have all of Wonky's tips because they seemed to repeat.  Does anything special happen for me to know if I got them all.

The recipes.  I cheated and looked at an FAQ to get all of them.  Here's a hint: combine mushroom (HP) with jelly (FP) in different combinations.

I now have one more shine sprite and star piece.  I also have 96 badge points.  Mowz has come in handy.  In Glitzville she still says there is something there, but I can't find it.  I also have a lot of badges that she stole.  Maybe I should sell some of the extras, but I am not sure which ones don't multiply.

I can't find tattle number 84.  Any ideas where to look?

Will anything special happen when any/all things are completed?  I didn't notice anything for the recipes.

Possible spoilers...

Regarding Wonky's tips... If he isn't charging you any more, then you have them all. :) I'll have to work on the recipes more. Do different kinds of Mushrooms produce different recipes, or are they all the same for that purpose? I didn't get Miss Mouz until just before I beat the game. I was kinda suprised there was another character, actually. Cool though. Yeah, she's quite handy for finding all those star pieces. If you are having trouble finding all the shines, talk to Merluvlee. Oh, and as for the Badges... Just sell the ones you never use. You can always buy them back later if you change your mind (talk to the shopkeeper, select "I'm Buying," and then "Others").

You have 96 BP? Wow. I thought I was BP crazy. :)

Tattle 84 is "Bristle." It was originally found east of Petal Meadows, near Shwomp's Fortress. You can find it in the Pit of 100 Trials as well.

Thanks.

One of my favorite parts of PM:TTYD is playing as Bowser in SMB like levels.  Is there anyway to replay them now that I am way past them without starting a new file?

Update:

I haven't beat the final boss, so some of what appear complete may not be.

Level 36 (So far.  What is the max?)
Superstar
HP 50 (some with badges)
FP 45 (some with badges)
BP 99 (What is the max?)
Star Pieces: All
Shine Sprites: All
Play Time: 99:59 Max
Crystal Stars: All 7
Tattles 97/124 (I don't think I can get them all.  See above.)
Badges 83/85 (Two are in the Pit.)
Recipes All 57/57 (Used FAQ)
All 4 Super Luigi Books
All of Grifty's stories.
All of Wonky's tips. (Paid for, but maybe not followed.)
All Luigi's stories. (So far.)
All of the items purchased from the guy wearing red and white stripes the stands in front of the item shop in Rogueport.
Level 70 in the Pit. (What does the sign  about Power Bonuses at the entrance to the pit mean?)
All the troubles so far.

What else is there to complete?

Any ideas on how to get all the tattles?  See above.

Is it possible to get Luigi's Book 1 after getting 2, 3, and 4?  EDIT: the first book is called Super Luigi, not Super Luigi 1.  Duh.  I'm must have been partial blind last night.  Maybe that is a side effect of over 99.59 hours of game play.  (I left it on while eating and doing chores.)

Power Bounces: How many times you have bounced on an enemy in one Power Bounce move. I think my max is 7.

I have all the troubles and all the tattles complete, but my recipes are sorely lacking because they are so hard to figure out.

I'm missing three badges, one of which I don't even know what it is.

34 Star Pieces remain.

Hey, I figured out how to drop ranks in the Glitz Pit. You have to lose the battle *and* fail the special condition. So if the condition is "don't use your jump," for example, then use your jump, and then run. You'll drop one rank.

I've gained a few more levels and picked up a bunch of tattles from the Pit of 100 Trials. I also finished all the troubles (including the ones after you beat the final boss). What is tattle #11? When I sort by location, it's in between Hooktail and the Boggly Woods enemies, which I have all the tattles for.

Tattle #11
Name: Paratroopa
HP: 4
Comments: Now these are really annoying. Their attacks are the same as a
regular Koopa's, however. Jump it twice to turn it into a Koopa Troopa on its
back. ;)

I had to go back and get a flying enemy too.  If you jump on them before you tattle on them they may become something else.

Luigison:

99:59 play time?!?
99BP?!?

Holy cow, man.

How do you know when you've found all the Star Pieces? Are there just enough to trade for all of Dazzle's badges?

Is 99BP enough to equip all the badges (or all the badges you have), not including doubles?

My status (from memory):
Final boss beaten
48+ hours
124/124 tattles
79/85 badges
Approx. 7 recipes
Pit of 100 Trials complete
60% of Trouble Center
All Luigi books/stories

"99:59 play time?!?"
I left it on while cooking, eating, and doing chores.

"How do you know when you've found all the Star Pieces? Are there just enough to trade for all of Dazzle's badges?"
Dazzle won't have any more badges, and you can check the sign in the Pit of 1000 Trials.  It says something like, Star Pieces 100/100.  That sign also shows your Power Bounce record.  Mine is 9.

"Is 99BP enough to equip all the badges (or all the badges you have), not including doubles?"
I'm not sure.  I have a lot that are just being used for HP and FP.  I check.

Update:
I now have beaten the final boss, have 115 tattles, all 5 or Luigi's books, two missing badges, and all but the last trouble.  I need to complete the Pit to get the final tattles, badges, and troulbe.  I could play until I get the max level/HP/FP.  Anything else?

I guess I wasn't paying attention when I read the signs in the pit, heh. I don't think I ever used the Power Bounce badge... I'll find out after class. :)

"Pit of 1000 Trials"

Eeek!

P.S. There's no way that 99BP could equip every badge. No way.

Title: Re: PM:TTYD Complete?
Post by: Luigison on November 16, 2004, 07:59:14 AM
100!  Whoo!  A thousand would have been long.

It would be counter productive to use every badge.  The P-up D-down and D-up P-Down badges would cancel each other.  Also, one of the badges doesn't allow you to use your hammer, and another doesn't let you jump.  I assume using both would stop you from both jumping and hammering.  Why use the Double Pain and Slow Go badges anyway?

Update:
I now have all the troubles.  I am missing 1 badge and 5 tattles from the bottom of the Pit of "100" trials.  I am at level 39 and don't know what the max is.

What else can be done/completed?  Does anything special happen when I complete everything in the game?

Ah, er, I guess I'll ask this here.

WHERE THE HECK IS A PEACHY PEACH?

Also, have you turned paper and gone behind the bars to talk to the Boo who runs the Pianta Parlor? She tells you more stuff every time you get top score in a minigame.

The Peachy Peach is in the Twilight Town Inn. Go inside and walk to the left. You'll see it there on the table.

Yeah, I got all the top scores in the minigames. I guess that's another thing you could try to complete. What's the best way to earn Piantas? I'm pretty good at the plane game, but I still almost never can hit the "x2" tile, so I only earn about 6 Piantas (net) each time. It's gonna take a long time to earn that Money Money badge. :/

It would take 148 BP to equip all the badges I have found so far (not counting duplicates). There are still two badges I don't have: Money Money and something else. I'm missing the badge just to the right of Lucky Day on the journal badge list. I'm guessing it's Lucky Day P, but I can't find it! Someone give me a hint. :)

The best way to earn Piantas is the Paper Game. I'm pretty sure this isn't too subjective of an observation.

Jeff:  it has to do with a tattle you haven't yet gotten...  Arrange your tattles by area and try to pinpoint its location.

And the fastest way to earn piantas (aside from buying them) is get really good at timing the slots.  777 pays big $$$.

Go Moon!

LD, you can get another Peachy Peach each time you stay at the inn.

Also, thanks for the idea of going between the bars in the parlor.

I still think the best way to get stuff in the parlor is buy spending coins.  With the Money Money badge it's a lot easier.

When I finish everything in this game I might go back and play Paper Mario, Mario RPG, or Mario & Luigi:SS.  Which do you suggest?

EDIT: On second thought I will leave it the same.  "Buy spending coins" is too funny.  Not as funny as my horse bets boat quote, but heh.

I was about to mention the slots, honestly... I mean, If you stare RIGHT in front of the television... youll see the slots flash orange when the 7 comes up (Orange is a vast difference from blue and green). I can hit the 777 about 1 time in every 8 right now. Made 1,000 Piantas in about 10 minutes or so.

I figured out how to get special endings in Paper Mario: TTYD.  In the final battle say that you will follow the Shadow Queen.  You can also get special endings at the end of any boss battle by pressing "Start/Pause", "B", and "X".  If you know about these special endings don't spoil the suprize.

This space intentionally left blank.

The Plane Game is the easiest for me... Consistently getting 400ft.+ which wins back the Piantas I put in and more, and if I can get a x2 panel I go for that. Easy $$$. Er, easy Piantas. I'm too impatient for the Paper Game, but I've only tried it twice.

Wait, what -does- happen if you say you'll follow the queen?

P.S. I found one more trick. You get a special ending if you read the ghost's diary on the train.

Oh, I forgot you could just buy Piantas. Heh. I guess it won't be so hard to get that Money Money badge after all. :)

Thanks for the hint regarding that last badge. I'll get right on that.

Insane Steve: That can't be good for your eyesight. O.o

Luigison: LOL at your "special ending." Don't tell people that. It's not nice. ;)

Post by: Lizard Dude on November 17, 2004, 02:58:45 PM
Whoa, 400ft? That seems impossible to me. Anyway, the Paper Game is impossible to get anything but 1st in, which gives you 20 Piantas each time for a net gain of 10.

All of my Plane Game top scores are over 431 ft.  My top score is 49.82 ft.  I haven't played the other minigames.

I saw the special ending for reading the ghost's diary.  It was better than the "Start, B, & X" ending, but not as good as the Shadow Queen's ending.  ;)

My status when I beat the game (Note, I usually play RPGs twice -- a hasty runthrough and a find-everything walkthrough. I have cleared the first one.)

Final boss Passed
Level 23 (65 HP/45 FP/12 BP) -- I am the antithesis of Luigison's style. (I am now level 27, all new levels are BP increases.)
23 hours total (A few more now)
About half the troubles passed (All but about 4 now)
Something like 45 badges
Something like 40 star pieces
Something like 3 recipies
Level 10 in the Pit. (I made it to 90 now, but quit because I kind of ran out of items)
All but maybe 8 Shine Sprites?

(I'm sad, I know. I don't play RPGs for ultimate completeness all too much.)

97/100 star pieces
28/30 troubles
81/85 badges (need two from parlor)

Like I said, the Parlor badges are really easy to get if you can time the slots well. Although, I don't recommend you stare 1/2 centimeter from the TV like I do, because it can't be good for your eyesight.

Deezer, hint: You have to use the R button. :)

I now have all the badges and tattles, and I picked up a whole lot of new recipes. Now the only enemy who gives me more than 1 star point is the Amazee Dayzee. :/

I still have a couple of questions... What's with the Double Pain and Slo Go badges? Is there some kinda trick to them or are they just there to make the game more challenging for yourself? Also, what does it mean when I see that flash of light after Zess T cooks something? I thought it just did that whenever I found a new recipe, but I found about 12 new recipes last night, and it only did that once (for Zess Dinner I think).

I give LD's answer the Luigison seal of approval.

I am now at level 40, but didn't get a stage upgrade.  I am still missing one bagde and 5 tattles at the bottom of the pit.  I also have 1st place in the Plane Game with 49.82 ft and no Piantas, and 1st place in the Paper Game with 20 Piantas.  I am only 4th or 5th in the other games.

I did for about an hour a half this morning, but probably won't do anything with the game for a long time.  (I got the DS and SM64DS today.)

Man, WOW.

I remember sucking at Power Bounces on SMRPG (still do) but being superior on the PM series. It is reversed. Everyone else isn't doing well, I suppose, while I bounce the crayzee out of dayzee.

Paper Mario record: 100 Bounces (that is as high as you can go)

Paper Mario 2 record: 30+ (34-ish, I believe)

<BIG_HINT>Try Power Bouncing lesser enemies for more bounces (because they make the chance of landing on big enemies impossible after about 9 bounces because they know you could keep going and kill the thing in one move) so try what I recommend. and you shall be suprised.</BIG_HINT>

Speaking of which, I need to go PB some Goombas and rack up my score.

I finally beat the Pit of 10 Trials today. I expected a LOT harder. Although, when you go in with 15 Jelly Ultras you got from the Parlor in about 15 minutes, it isn't that hard at all.

What's kind of stupid is that the prize you get for passing the Pit is more useful for when you are actually trying to beat the Pit, and quite useless after you've passed everything.

I'm pretty much done with it. Found all badges, set high scores on the minigames, 97/100 Star Pieces, 7 recipes.
