Title: Nintendo DS high score page testing
Post by: Luigison on April 09, 2005, 04:20:15 PM
I worked a little on my/our Nintendo DS high score page today.  It's far from complete, but you can check it out at
href="http://www.geocities.com/dr_shows//WarioWareDS.htm">http://www.geocities.com/dr_shows//WarioWareDS.htm.  If that url doesn't work

remove the last slash.

The page does not contain any image maps, targets, or other dynamic content now so you cannot select a game or click the DS or it's touch

screen to change the top screen yet.

When I complete the beta version of the page I will officially ascept high scores from Fungi Forum members.  In the mean time feel free to

post WarioWario Touched! high scores in this thread or post in the Super Mario 64 DS

or Yoshi Touch & Go threads.

I viewed the page in FireFox and Internet Explorer.  The only problem I know of is that in IE a couple of extra lines are added between the

1st, 2nd, and 3rd high score bars so that the scrolling text at the bottom of "iframe test 2" is cut off.

  • Do you have any ideas how to fix the extra IE spacing?
  • Did the DS, iframe (top screens), or anything else take too long to load?
  • Are there any gaps, spaces, or lines in the DS?
  • Do any of the DS screens appear blank?
  • Do you have any questions, suggestions, or other helpful information?

Now with Touch: http://www.geocities.com/dr_shows//WarioWareDS.htm.

The touch screen is now an image map and contains six clickable areas.  Three are fairly large, but the other three are only a few pixels big.  Two of them are games you can play on the DS.  Can you find them all?

Hints:

  1. GAMES
  2. Mona says...
  3. Stop moving.
  4. "Eat your garlic.  Eat your garlic.  Eat your garlic."
  5. The nose knows.
  6. "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."

Post which ones you found (by number), but don't give away there location.  You can hint at their content like I did above.  Happy hunting.

Sorry if you couldn't get to the site earlier but a lot of people were looking at it and Yahoo shut it down.  I now have 5000MB of data transfer so the site shouldn't get shut down again.  Have fun and don't forget to give me suggestions about the page.

Edit: 25G.  Wow!  That many gig would have been awesome, but I made a mistake.  It's 5000MB or data transfer and 25MB or storage.

Luigi Simpson, thanks for the "Choose a Game" wav.  I put it on the page.

Has anyone even looked at the page? Am I wasting my time with it? Or is it something you might evevntually use?

I thought people would like to see all the Nintendo DS high scores on a singe dynamic page that also had Easter Eggs games like Duck Hunt and Bubble Wrap. Was I wrong?

More hints:

  1. GAMES (It's a button to go back to the title.)
  2. Mona says... (Click me. Click me.)
  3. Stop moving.  (Arrange.)
  4. "Eat your garlic.  Eat your garlic.  Eat your garlic." (Eat your garlic often.)
  5. The nose knows.  (Pop Wario's ...)
  6. "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." (9-Volt's holding this NES classic.)

The last two are very hard to find. You'll know you're on them when your cursor changes from an arrow to a hand.  When I tested "Wario's nose" earlier the page couldn't be displayed.  I'll fix it.

Edit: The Bubble Pop game on Wario's nose works fine in FireFox.  It worked in IE last night, but I don't know what the problem is today.  BTW, 9-Volts game takes me a few seconds to load at 100.0 Mbps.  Also, I can scroll the Fungi Forums on the DS in FireFox, but not IE.

Luigison, I've visited the page. In fact, I'm probably the one who gave you that view. The page doesn't seem complete, somehow. As far as I've seen, there are very few links working.

I'm working on it.  Checkout http://www.geocities.com/dr_shows/frametest.htm for all the links so far.  I added a lot of games and soundboard links.  There not in an image map so you don't have to look for them.

I tested the page in IE and FireFox and found that many of the games had signigicantly longer load times in IE.  If you click a link  and nothing happens, just be patient.  I also noticed that the DS took a little longer than expected to load.  Maybe I should change to GIFs.

Enjoy: http://www.geocities.com/dr_shows/frametest.htm

That frame test page was brilliant!

Thanks.  I added the Yoshi Touch & Go high scores to it.  If you use IE it will have the DS stylus cursor I made, but it will be smaller that the real thing.  I can't figure out how to make larger cursor or how to get them to work in FireFox.  I also haven't added the cursor code to the framed screens so the stylus won't work on the touch screen.  Heh.

http://www.geocities.com/dr_shows/frametest.htm

Edit:  I also wanted to add an manacan(sic) hand, but if it can't be bigger it won't be worth it.  (I know the stylus needs some editing.)  The frametest page was originally intended as only a test page but since the hidden area of the original image map where so hard to find I posted it.  I think this is my longes non-edit ever.

Luigison, that page is amazing! You're really going all-out with it, aren't you? I'm much impressed. Sorry for taking so long to check it out and reply in here.

The way you've emulated the WarioWare: Touched! setup and the DS is really cool; it would have taken me years to do something like that. I had fun playing with the different stuff, and I found all of the secrets (thanks to your hints).

My favorite part of all would probably be the references to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I noticed two of them. Is that all there are (so far)?

Oh, and the last mode in the Duck Hunt game is hilarious!!

Thanks.  Did you play the Bubble Wrap/Pop game?  I don't think the version on Wario is working.  I put a new version on the "frametest.htm" page along with some other new stuff.

I don't know how many HGttG references I made so far.  I thought it was just one, but the site is in several stages of development at once.  There also are and/or will be references to HomestarRunner, The Simpsons, The Butterfly Effect, Fight Club, Japanese, Mario (of course), Feel the Magic, The 80's, ET, plays on the word "touch", game sounds and music, NES codes, Superstar Saga, War Games, 2001, Queensryche, Pink Floyd, DS option packs, Rumble, and a lot more.  I have a three page list of Easter Eggs I want to include in the final design. What you guys have seen on the WarioWareDS.htm and frametest.htm pages is a small part of what I have and plan to do with it.

I've relearned some HTML tricks working on the site, but found that there are a lot more differences between IE and FireFox than I thought.  I've also learned a little JavaScript (to open both screens at once).

Did you notice that Duck Hunt was a 9-volt micro game, and Bubble Pop a Wario game?  I have more like that planned.  In the future you should watch your status bar while searching for links.  I don't want to give "everything" away.

Do you know where a copy of the following is without IGN on the bottom right?

No, but I could take a bit of time to try to get rid of it!

Your page is looking better! You've got most of the components there.

>>As of 8:01 PM, PST: Man, this is hard work! I think I'm only 40% done.

Most of the components.  Yes, but I have a lot more content and a few more features to add.
Are you ready to "Rumble"?

Alright, I've worked for quite a bit of time on these. Here I have the edited bottom screen in an original .bmp, and a .jpg.

Wow!  Thanks.

Edit:  I put it on the site and also added a shutdown screen that I am making an image map for now.  I should probably work on the high score pages and stop added features.

I realized now that I really wasn't done with some parts, so if you think the newer ones (which have replaced the old ones above) are better, use 'em!

I used the new JPG. I also just put up the "Shut Down" image map.  It was a little tricky, but works for me in IE and FF.  If you have any problem with it or anything else on the page let me know.

*Goes to work on the Yoshi Touch & Go screens.

The Shut Down screen works perfectly-- Although I must say, it is a tad bit bizarre.

>bizarre

Are you refering to the flash on the top screen?  Do you not like HomestarRunner?

Shutdown touch screen is a mockup I made from looking at the DS shutdown screen in Picto Chat.

Since I'm making this page for the Fungi Forums, where do you guys (and girl) think I should concentrate my efforts?

Title: Re: Nintendo DS high score page testing

High score pages come first, easter eggs/games/other stuff come second.

The other stuff has been fun, but I agree.  Which game's high scores do you want listed most. (I think I have all the Yoshi T&G scores up already.)
