Title: Annoying Mario stuff
Post by: Glorb on July 22, 2005, 09:21:05 AM
I like the Mario games. However, I hate how they often rehash the same ideas over and over again and call it a new Mario game. Also, some annoying elements are persistent throughout each Mario game. Take for instance, Mario's stereotypical Italian accent. This appears to be Nintendo's formula for creating an Italian accent:
Turn most short "i" sounds into an "ee" sound.
Add "-a-" to the beginning or end of every other word.
Turn most r's into d's.
Now, "It's me, Mario!" becomes "Eet's-a me, a-Ma-dio!" You can see how it gets annoying.
Post your complaints on annoying Mario stuff here!

Well, this is where the signature goes...

If your biggest complaint is Mario's accent, I'd say Nintendo's doin' something right.

Fifth's post makes sense to me.

Kelso: Guys this is a game of Cat & Mouse between me & Hyde. I''m gonna make him admit he''s been going out with Jackie behind my back.
Fez: Guys, what happens in Cat & Mouse if the cat is retarded?

If the accent is the biggest complaint, that means the stuff that actually MATTERS, such as gameplay, isn't bad. It was a lot better the way Fifth said it.

Yopic means "a topic that is misspelled". I use the word fairly often, especially when I'm high. On yopics.

I quite enjoy Mario's accent.

Are you saying you don't like the way Italian people talk? That's how they talk, just less exaggerated. Actually, I think the accent makes Mario sound cool. If only they'd let him say more than just his regular whoo-hoos and let him say actual lines...

Goodie, I actually find the way Italians talk okay, as they sound NORMAL. But Mario's accent...whoo, boy, that's incredibly exaggerated. I'm suprised that Italian people aren't offended. Who knows, there's probably an organ-grinder monkey partner in one of the Mario games somewhere. And also, the accent isn't all that annoys me. What about the bizzare plots? A dragon and his army of duck-billed turtles invade a land of mushroom people but is stopped by an Italian plumber who eats giant head-sized mushrooms and can fly with a racoon tail he sprouts after eating a leaf?

If you don't like the plot then why are you a Mario fan?

I am, but I find some things annoying, like many normal fans of game franchises. For instance, I like the Doom series of games, but I dislike their lack of any plot to speak of. I liked the Sonic games, but not how they don't translate well to 3D.

Sonic translates very well to 3d.
The bizare plots are one of my favorite things about mario games (especially superstar saga).
Mario's accent is fun.

you, and helping you be as successful as possible."

WHAT?! None of you see the duck bills? Fine, they're more like bird beaks, but stil...and I guess the surreal plots are okay, as long as they don't get as wierd as Superstar Saga or Mario RPG.

Erm, ya. Stop the flaming, ok? Because if you don't, I'll have to lock this and the pertinent discussion will be ended along with it. Which is bad. So STOP. NOW.

Ahem.

Princess Peach always annoyed me for whatever reason. I don't know.

Come to think of it, Bowser was real.....retarded in the Mario Party games. It was more fun when he was flying around in a giant air ship, like in SMB3. I see your point now, Glorb.

FINALLY! And by the way, I did some research, and there really is a site similar to the fictional "Stupid Jerk Forums". To avoid hurt feelings or loss of limb, I will not mention the name here.
