Title: Contacts: Yea or nay?
Post by: Deezer on August 25, 2005, 11:40:48 AM
I have an eye checkup on the 29th, and I know I'll need a stronger prescription. This time, I was considering getting contacts.

My questions:
1) Is it OK to take naps without removing the contacts?
2) How much do your contacts cost you per year?
3) Should I go with disposable or not disposable?

Also, post your contact horror stories. If contacts made your eyes dry up and fall out or something, I want to hear about it!

I wear glasses, but my mom wears contacts. You know how she cleans them? She PUTS THEM IN HER MOUTH, swishes it around a little, dries it off ON HER SHIRT, and puts them back on her eyeballs. *shudder*

1. It might be okay to take naps with contacts on. Just as long as you get used to tour eyes in a different shape.

2. Depending on where you get your contacts, they may range to $100-$350.

3. If you can't clean your contacts, go with the disposable. But if you go with non-disposable, you'll fell more comfortable wearing them every time.

It's up to you if you say yea or ney.

1. Yes.

2. 80 USD for a 6 month supply for me.

3. Disposable for sure; the 1 month long ones are nice, for me at least.

I have no contacts, so I am unfortunately unable to answer any of your questions.

The only ones in my family with bad eyesight are my Mother and brother.

My brother stopped wearing glasses once he got contacts, and my mother sometimes switches between the two.

So, I really can't say.

Hmm. I'm leaning more towards contacts now.

4) For how many consectutive hours can you wear them before they start irritating your eyes? (Not wearing them overnight, obviously)

Depending on the shape of your eyes when you put them in(lets assume you've got them clean and not with hairs on them and stuff). A good 16 sounds about right. As long as you would need them in. Also, it depends on what you mean when you say irritate. I take irritate to mean a slightly dry feeling.

Okay, so, contacts have this really cool dizziness feature that I never heard about. After I put them in, turning my head and eyes at the same time makes me want to hurl. But, after some time, my body adjusts. When I take out my contacts and put my glasses back on, the vertigo is even more intense, and I basically have to stare straight ahead for an hour.

A bunch of my "freidns" at my school are now buying plastic glasses that look like real ones to waer. SO pretty soon glasses may be back in style? I don't know about that though, since they actually look dumb with them on.

Nay! Nay on contact lenses!  My friend died from using them!

How?  Oh, well, uh ... they were those malaria-carrying contacts.

I have contacts. Don't sleep or shower in them, and keep em' clean to, or your eyes will sting all the time.

Are you talking about my review, LD? Yeah, it is weird. Oh, I do have some contact horror stories.......

One time, I went to a wrestling camp at St. Marks. School of Texas. At the end of the day, we would go to the pool to swim and cool off. I had my contacts in, and even though my mother told me not to, I said, "What the heck," and I went in. Well, this was all well and good, until about a day later. The contact lenses had sucked up all the chlorine water in the poopl, and it irritated my eyes so much that they began to ooze green glop and other gross stuff. It took three days of nothing but glasses to clear up my poor eyes. Hehehe, man that was bad.....

Aw, man, I do not feel good anymore. Nausiated would be a better term...

This also makes me very glad that I have 20/20 vision. But, as I explained in "I Pose A Question," this won't last forever.
