Mario isn't in DK3 because Nintendo thought it was time to bring another new character into the spotlight, hoping his fame would rival that of Mario's. How very wrong they were. :)

LOL I would laugh at Super Stanley Sunshine:  Explore Isle Delfino!  Collect the Shines!  Defeat Donkey Kong and his wicked son, diguised as Shadow Stanley!  Aided by STORMM, his bug zapper!

But seriously, Nintendo thought it would be interesting to have a different character.

Stanley the Bugman. I like that guy (heck, he's Mario's cousin!) But, fame and fortune only runs in the Mario side of the family.

Did Nintendo ever say that Stanley was Mario's cousin? I don't think I've ever read that anywhere.

I went to NintendoLand.com, and they said he was Mario's Cousin. I'm not for sure on this, so if anyone has the real facts, please let me know so I can correct myself.

Can someone explain to me why DK is frightened by a little guy with a can of bug spray, as I've never been able to figure that one out?!
