It's been around 24 years since Mario has bben introduced in the states. So I found a little site about how people want Mario to die. (Deezer, I think this link has the release date of the original DK.)

PaperMario, I think that he was saying that because before I fixed my link, the link led to nothing, but I fixed it.

Mario dies all the time.  Just get a steady supply of 1-up mushrooms and he's fine.
