As you may already know, Nintendo Power recently printed its 200th issue. To commemorate the event, for the past five months, they've been publishing a list of what they claim to be the 200 best Nintendo games of all time.
As you may already know, said list is rubbish. Commence voting!
-
woah....
-
:D
Make it count, 'cause you only get one chance.
-
o__O
-
Did the 200th issue come with any cool bonuses or neat, unusual articles? My subscription to the magazine ended at Volume 199.
-
My thoughts exactly...
-
Watoad, it has retro stickers, but I haven't look at it in any detail yet.
Edit: I thought you were in Mississippi?
-
My eyes!! They burn!!! :o
-
Well, I just voted. For a bunch of stuff.
-
It also has an interesting poster and a cool interview with Kazuaki Morita, that's about it. The stickers are the coolest and most unusable thing in there.
-
Hehe. Yeah, the stickers are nice but you could easily make some on your own. The poster is pretty interesting. My favorite poster so far was the Advance Wars DS one that looked like the Japanese box art.
Well. I don't think 20 votes is enough for a list of this magnitude... What is the fairest course of action?
- Allow more votes; reset the poll.
- Allow more votes; keep the current results.
- Don't do anything.
... and now I've got a poll for the poll. ;)
EDIT: Oops. Looks like the only choice is option #3! Nevermind.
-
Let everyone have 199 votes.
-
Haha. That would be... interesting. Deezer, is there a way to edit how many votes are allowed?
-
Keep it 20. I think 20 was the perfect number. It made me pick more carefully, but not leave too many out.
Edit: If you allow too many more votes it'll be hard to sort out the BEST ones.
-
Cool. :) That's enough reassurance for me.
Well, I'm casting now...
-

After much debating on #TMK I agree with Luigison.

@_@ AAAAH
Awesome thread, though insanely overwhelming.
Well, I voted. Of the games I've played (sadly, only a fraction of those listed), I chose the games that gave me the most joy when playing and for the longest amount of time (replay value, I suppose). There were several games I would've voted for, had they been on the list, but it's NP's poll, so...
My subscription ended at 199 as well. X_x
I thought about not renewing it, as I don't like how NP's become lately, but so many awesome games just came out or are coming out that I want to see how they're covered. Especially since the issue after my last one is 200... >_< So yeah, must renew. I'd like to get a strategy guide, anyway, so it's all good.
-
Why did so many subscriptions expire at 199? Is it some kind of plot?
I am crushed under the magnitude of awesome games that have come out on Nintendo systems. I'm also very glad to have played most of them. I am a better person for having experienced their sublime beauty.
I tended to vote for the best game in a series, and then move on. But the question on everyone's mind really is:
Who voted for Pinball of the Dead as one of the top 20 Nintendo games?
-
My voting strategy was a combination of what I felt while I was playing the game for the first time and whether I still thought the game was a good one to this day. Some games qualified for the first screening but failed during the second (WarioWare: Touched!, for example). *insert comment about how big the poll is here*.
-
Thanks for the kind words and kind votes, everyone. Chup, I was the other person who voted for MMX.
-
I only voted for 10. You know 2 that I definitely voted for ^_^ .
-
Metroid Fusion isn't getting much love. :( It's really a great game; I probably would have voted for it if I had a 21st vote.
-
You selected too many options. For this poll, you may only select 20 options.
I selected 200. :)
-
Mario didn't get much love, did he? Who came first, NP?
-
You guys think that your subscription ending in issue 199 is bad? Mine got delivered to another address!
-
Mario didn't get much love, did he? Who came first, NP?
Ocarina of Time, which is overrated IMO.
-
Someone lend me 20 bucks so I can renew my subscription instead of buying the latest issue 2 weeks later at Toy's R' Us.
-
I voted for Excitebike, SMB, SMB3, LM, FFI&II:DoS, SMRPG, PM, PMTTYD, M&L:SS, SSB, SSBM, and MKDD. That's 12, I didn't want to sort through ALL of them.
-
Mr. Wiggles, I don't have 20 bucks. Will 20 bells do?
-
Watoad, it has retro stickers, but I haven't look at it in any detail yet.
Edit: I thought you were in Mississippi?
Only stickers? *is relieved* I was rather afraid that I'd be missing some kind of free, cool, arranged, symphonic soundtrack. That'd have been a total bummer.
I'll be leaving for the airport at about 3:30 a.m. on Monday. I haven't decided yet whether or not to bother even going to bed the night before.
It also has an interesting poster and a cool interview with Kazuaki Morita, that's about it. The stickers are the coolest and most unusable thing in there.
Eheheheh!! (https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fhomepage.mac.com%2Fwyse%2Ftmk%2Fscaryaim.png&hash=e1e893cf3e6f52b39840c3725d836c99c8088ed1)
So you're back with NP again, huh?
Hehe. Yeah, the stickers are nice but you could easily make some on your own. The poster is pretty interesting. My favorite poster so far was the Advance Wars DS one that looked like the Japanese box art.
My favorite poster is either Jet Force Gemini, Harrier 2001, or some other one that I'm not quite remembering. It's hard to be sure because I've received around 90 NP posters since I first subscribed.
My subscription ended at 199 as well. X_x
Really?! How strange! I thought I was the sole chump under a super-cool-soundtrack-slipping-through-the-grip curse, but now I see that my hunch was wrong on two counts.
Why did so many subscriptions expire at 199? Is it some kind of plot?

Wait, were there others besides mine and Sapphira's? Could this be?! Don't make me kill Jar Jar again!! (Sorry, Sapph. :/ )
Unlike our Lizard here, when I look at the list after posting this, I'll probably find that there are maybe as many as 20 games on the list that I've played even once. This is another way of saying that I likely won't do much judging and deciding but a lot of mad hoping and scanning.
Better person. Heheh. Great line.
-
Surprising. There are about 64 games on the list that I've played, and things started getting really sticky when I had 36 left to choose from.
Biggest disappointment for not being included: Banjo-Tooie. If there was ever a sequel in a two-part game series (considering that all other Banjo games have been very different) that was better than its prequel, then this game takes the cake. Banjo-Kazooie was wonderful, but Tooie improved on that game on so many levels. I do seem to be the only one who thinks this, though. :| Well, Chup, I guess you're in the same dank boat with SFA's exclusion, eh?
-
Actually, Banjo-Tooie was one of the very games I was thinking of when I said this:
There were several games I would've voted for, had they been on the list, but it's NP's poll, so...
I absolutely loved BT. While I enjoyed BK, BT was so much more fun, I found. Other games I was thinking of where DKC2 and 3, and DK64. While DKC was fun and all, 3 and especially 2 were completely awesome and much more enjoyable to me. I don't understand why so many people bash DK64; I found it really fun, and really loved the music. I think there were some Mario games I thought of, but I can't remember what they were.
-
I'm with you on all of that except for DKC3, which I never had the chance to play.
The reason people don't like DK64, I'm guessing, is that it could have you running in 64 different directions at once collecting tons and tons of bananas and other stuff. I never felt so busy and loaded with things to do in a game before I played DK64. However, for me that was a lot of fun.
-
I picked all NES games. NES rocks!
-
Sometimes the tedious stuff can be fun. Mostly after finishing it all; it gives a sense of accomplishment. Then again, I enjoy collecting stuff in real life, so maybe it's just a way of getting that out of my system? Whee for OCPD. XD
And why does that not surprise me, Yoshi55? ¬_¬
-
I voted for:
Wario Ware: Mega Party Game$
Time Splitters 2
Banjo Kazooie (but I also enjoyed the sequel more.)
Paper Mario
Paper Mario TTYD
Animal Crossing
Super Monkey Ball
Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga
Mario Kart: DD
Both Super Smashes
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario 64
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Luigi's Mansion
-
Everyone is complaining about their NP subscrip. ending at 199. Mine started at 200! ^_^ The poster is sweet and me, Mr.Nostalgic (I'm still Mr.Melee), loves the retro stickers! I hope they'll stick to my guitar case.
-
The biggest, single-game discrepancy on that list is Kirby's Adventure. It should have broke the top 30, and it's not even there.
On the other hand, "best games of all time" lists are inherently impossible; in almost all cases, they end up laughable. So, I think it's good that NP didn't really try. It would have been wasted energy. All in all, it was a fun series to read.
-
Total agreement there. Actually, I would have voted for Kirby Super Star, considering it's like one of the most fun games ever, but it's not there either. Their "top 200" is skewed.
Dank boat, heh. Even though I love SFA, I wouldn't consider it a great game (at least, not anymore).
While I don't think Ocarina of Time is the greatest game ever, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a game with such rich atmosphere. That's what makes that game so dang cool. Of course, that's probably why I like SFA.
I probably should have been more careful with my votes, now that I think about it.
-
Atmosphere justified a lot of my choices. It helps a game a lot more than you'd think.
-
It's the best game of all time; it deserves to be #1, IMO, of course.
-
I dunno, I don't like Zelda games for some reason. Although I like Link in SSB.
-
I voted for:
Wario Ware: Mega Party Game$
Time Splitters 2

Paper Mario
Paper Mario TTYD
Animal Crossing

Mario Kart: DD

No NES?
-
So?
Maybe he doesn't have one.
-
I don't. I want a NES! I say it as ness, BTW.
-
No NES?
Stop with the NES so much! Just because the classics made Mario what he is doesn't mean that they are the best.
-
Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
-
Yeah, you said it just as good.
-
Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
So I say OoT isn't the best game of all time.
-

I put the stickers on my skateboard! ;D
Oh, and about the NES thing, I guess I must have different game tastes than some people, as was aforementioned.
-
Dude, SMB3 is beating SMB!!! That's not cool...
-
OMG! dat iz alot of games
-
I agree with alot of the games...I can pick a most favorite game (whihc for me is SMW2: Yoshi's Island, but after that I'll just lump games and not be able to pick a favorite.
Though I'm stumped as to how in the world Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles got so high. I do love it, but better than Pikmin 2? Better than Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire?Emerald? Better than Tales of Symphonia?! Okay, I know that's just my opinion but still...
-
It's also weird that for the top 5 game characters Link beat Mario. It was listed along the countdown.
-
I also thought that was weird, because although the Zelda games are my personal favorite video game series, I think Mario has revolutionized so many different kinds of games. 3-D games wouldn't be nearly as fun as they are, if not for Super Mario 64. Same goes for 2-D platformers and SMB.
