When I was at Wal-Mart, I was going to get Castlevainia when I decided to play the demo version games.(those controllers that stick out and you play demo versions)
So I picked Mario Kart DS. (I got *** on everything except missions) Of Course, the main title screen was removed so I had to just had to choose a charicter and a cup.
I choose Luigi and Retro GP.
When I played the game I noticed this...
-the shells sprites were different
-the sounds were different (like when a red shells about to hit you)
-the item sprites were different
-drifting was screwed up
-music sounded weird
-chain chomp item (but i never saw it's effect)
The most important thing to me was the chain chomp item.
can this be explained? I mean, did Nintendo think chain chomp was a bad idea?

At my local best buy, we have the demo AND the real game standing next to each other. They look the same.

It's the beta version. The GCN version was taken out of the Retro GP as well.
Also, why does everyone have to pick Luigi????

I always pick Luigi or Yoshi. I'd select (1st unlockable, not dead) and (3rd unlockable), but this is demo version we're talking about.

I never played the demo version since I already have MKDS. Next time I see it, though, I'll make sure to play it.

I replayed the demo at Wal-Mart.
I only played Retro
Fig-8: Different Music
Yoshi Falls: Full Map looks different on the bottom screen
CC Beach: After the first speed jump, there's grass on the side but it doesn't decrease your speed.
Mansion: Same as final version
The speed is 50cc, but 4 people do a speed start while only 1 person does a smoke start.

If anybody can get this to me, I'll pay them. I collect these demos, but I don't have this particular one. It would be especially interesting since information could be added to the site.

You mean the actual game cartrigde? (not a rom(?))

Yes, the cartridge. You would be paid, and maybe I'd even throw in a Mario Kart DS stylus from last E3...

anyway... I played the demo version today. i noticed a few weird things in the items.
-red shells (and triple): nothing different, except for icon is more 3d looking.
-green shells (and triple): nothing different, except for icon is more 3d looking.
-mushroom (and tripple): more of a boost, and icon is more 3d looking.
-bananas (and tripple): nothing different
-golden mushroom: seems to last longer, plus more boost on each click, and icon is more 3d looking.
-boos: didnt get, dunno if its in demo, but i thought i remember seeing it
-bullet bill: not in
-bombomb: didnt get, icon was more 3d.
-blooper: not in?
-star: character doesnt celebrate when they have it.
-blue shell: dunno if it circles over your head, but trail looked different.
-and finally chain chomp: icon showed up on rullet, but even when i was in 8th (slowed down to try to get it), didnt get it. probably icon was put in but no data, and the bullet bill replaced it later :(

"the golden mushroom lasts longer"? Did the character you used have the same item rating as the one you usually use?

no. no one had item ratings. it was a choose the char and play. only standard karts, just like in battle mode.
also when you get banged by a kart or jumped on, the animation and kart movement was kinda different. instead of being pushed to the side like normal,the kart turned about 30 degrees, and changed the direction slightly, while forced sideways.
oh yeah... the actual shells when launched looked different as well

When I said the drifting was screwed up, I meant It didnt make the first blue spark. (just the red one)

I've also played the demo version and I noticed that the karts are slower than in the regualr version. They were at 50cc speed, but the demo version removed those other engine classes.

they were probably at 50 cc and only had 50 cc cuz it was a demo.
and... Chain chomp and bullet bill are like the same thing in the mk games. which was better? i liked chainchomp better, because turning into a bullet bill was a dumb idea

I kind of agree. Plus, Chain Chomp had that effect where if it detached while you were turning you could get swung into the corner.

Well, I managed to get ahold of a copy, so eventually the differences will make it onto TMK.
