Let's face it, there are fun games out there that nobody talks about. I can name several, but I want to focus on one.
NBA Jam is a very fun 2 on 2 basketball game where you can make impossible dunks and long 3's like they're everyday feats. Crazy last second shots are also frequent. I have won and lost so many games at the last second.
So, let's hear about some more underrated games that you guys like.
-
Burnout: Legends for DS was WAY underrated. I really like that game. They compared it to the PSP one too much... But unfortunently I can't talk much right now; I'll say more about it later.
-
Mario Pinball Land, the game was fun, but hard, Bowser was soo hard, and it took a while to figure out how to beat him, but the whole rest of the game was the best, I mean you don't see much of this stuff in a Mario game, this was a pretty new idea, and isn't just pinball, it was an adventure pinball game.

Kururin Squash
(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.storyhost.com%2F%7Edojomed2%2Fmedia%2Fboxart%2FGCN%2FJap%2FKururin_Squash.jpg&hash=67601da62e948f1aae8381b793538313)
In this game you control a spinning helicopter blade through twisting turns, around, under, and over obsticals, all while collecting coins and in many levels boxing enemies. Do to the superior gameplay programming and analog stick I like this version better than its GBA incarnation. This game is worth importing. Happy hunting!

Nintendo had a Revolution demo similiar to the this game that's got my hopes.
-
I was playing NBA Jam the other day, and I was down by one point with 5 seconds left. So, I quickly got the ball up the court and hit a game winning 3 pointer at the buzzer. That is the implement that makes that game so enjoyable.
-
I think the original 1989 Street Fighter is underrated. In fact, many people consider Street Fighter II the "real" first SF game, due to its superiority. Sure, you could only play as Ryu in the first, and the pressure-sensitive buttons were terrible for doing combos, but it was fun...
Also, Air Diver for the Genesis was awesome. It was a hyper-realistic (sort of) cockpit-view jet-fighter simulator. It was like Top Gun for NES, except it pwned, and you fought terrorist aliens. But the game is so obscure, I'm sure none of you here have heard of it.
-
San Fransico Rush for the Nintendo 64 might be the best racing games I've ever played. Realistic dents, explosions, made-up cars, constant fog and a ridiculous lack of gravity makes it number one in the rubber-burnin' chamber of my heart.
-
The Pikmin series don't get the proper recognition they deserve. The first one was great fun and the second one was a gigantic improvement over the first. Hopefully a third installment is made, maybe with a larger battle mode.
-
Croc! The legend of the gobobos, or whatever! Ah, yes, that was great. And then the second one came out. Ah, yes, that was great too. They were both great. And hardly recognized. You got to defeat giant versions of stuff! Like, the first boss was a giant duck, and then a giant lady bug! It was awesome!
-
Astro Boy: Omega Factor (GBA)
If you don't know better, you think it's just the usual licenced cartoon crap GBA game, but it's actually a Treasure masterpiece!
-
I agree with LD. He convinced me to buy that game in the chatroom, and I sure didn't regret it... for the week that I played it. It's very short (for my liking), but I had fun anyway.
-
Princess Tomato in Salad Kingdom was a really underrated game. The game was also very pointless.
-
Kickle Cubicle I think was underrated. I guess it would be a puzzle game. It wasn't difficult to figure out the way to pass each level (collect 3 sacks of something, they look like stuffed bears to me), but to actually do it was more difficult than expected.
-
Yoshi's Story and Diddy Kong Racing, in my opinion, are awesome games... from what I've heard on the internet, people say it's horrible, but I disagree.
-
Diddy Kong Racing
It's my favorite N64 game, so I have to agree. Vastly underrated. It's better than all the Mario Karts.
-
M.C. Kids (NES)
I was playing this tonight and it rocks the house. It's better than SMB2.
-
Spy Fox in Dry Cereal. I know no one who has played it, but it still a good game for the computer.
-
I think Crimsonland for PC rocked so hard that no one has played it due to its rock level. It was like Asteroids, except you killed these aliens and zombies and zombie aliens and there was lots of gore and all these guns like this lightning gun that shot lightning and a rocket launcher that shot flaming rockets that were on fire and it was awesome.
-
Yeah, these are the games that are unappreciated; some people think they are total crap, but they are the best game ever to others.
-
Bloody games with guns are some of the most popular right now, what are you talking about?
-
You know what I mean. One game to one person may seem like useless crap, but to someone else, it's gold.
-
Really?
/me goes to dig up E.T. carts.
-
I'd say ICO for the PS2.
-
I don't think MC kids is underrated at all. I agree that it's a great game, but I think the general consensus is that it's a great game (at least among those who know what it is).
I'd say Star Tropics for the NES is an underrated game. It IS a great game, in MY opinion, but that is NOT the general consensus. Many people didn't like it at all. I loved it.
-
Ico was underrated at first, but now everyone in the universe is saying it's underrated, and it's beginning to become overrated. And in my opinion, it kind of is.
-
Have you ever played ICO, or are you just saying that because "everyone else" is saying the opposite?
ICO has its own fanbase, and within that fanbase it's appreciated, but its sales were never anything spectacular, and so, to the general video gaming audience, it's safe to say that it is "underrated."
If we're not going to specify our demographic, than you could make the case that any game is overly, or under appreciated.
-
What were the average sales for "Clayfighter 2: Judgement Clay?"
That is a great (and maybe underrated) game.
-
As I have said previous times, Majora's Mask is always overshadowed by Ocarina of Time, and I thought Majora's Mask was even better.
Though, Mischief Makers for the N64 was even more underrated, and I loved that game.
In agreement with people, I also thought the Pikmin series is great (a third game should be made, yes), and Diddy Kong Racing.
-
Diddy Kong racing is a great game. I need to rent it sometime.
-
Did anyone ever beat the second quest (mirror balloons)? Because I sure didn't.
-
I couldn't even beat the first quest. I wasn't good in the plane and the final final conflict was unwinnable for me. I was amazing in the hovercraft, though, so I was a bit unnerved that there was no final battle in a hovercraft.
M.C. Kids. Another amazingly fun game that I never beat. I mean, I got through the last level and all, but I never got all the world 6 cards so I technically didn't beat the game. Anyone know what happens if you get all the SPECIAL cards? I only ever found 3.
Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom is a game I really, really want to play again. I remember it as a child and never could figure out how to beat the 2nd level. Or any that followed it. I want another crack at it. Grrrrrrr.
One of my personal favorite games (that was met with really mixed reviews) was Mischeif Makers (N64). It was a platform game where you controlled a humanoid robot through these really surreal yet cleverly designed levels. I never beat it, though, thanks to this level where you fought a mechanized bird that I NEVER could figure out how to beat. 5-5 in this game seriously rivals anything Mario games can offer in terms of sadistically evil yet extraordinarily clever design.
Another neat game is On The Ball (SNES). You control a marble through a bunch of maze-like obstacle courses by spinning the entire course around it. Really, really fun. I never beat it because I could NEVER get past a certain point in the 7th/10 level of the hardest course of the last set of stages.
Funny how I have never beaten any of these games I mentioned. I want another crack at all of them. :(
-
TREASURE MATHSTORM! That game was so...fun to look at. And everytime I beat it, though it was short, a polite young woman's voice would say I moved up in rank, and I felt so good inside!
-

I stated Mischief Makers on the other page. I did beat it, and got every gold gem. The mechanized bird did get a little annoying, but I found a way to destroy it, and got a gold gem buy not taking any damage in the process.
As for Adventure 2 in DKR....The adventure mode was technically only beaten by my brother, and by having to erase his own file to play Adventure 2 (all the other files were full), he had erased some things that I cannot remember.
We never got T.T., either....
-
I beat all the plane and hovercraft T.T. ghosts, but barely any of the car ones. Is there some trick to the car?
-
You got all the gold gems? Amazing. I think I had about half of them (I only ever rented the game). Ya, the problem with the bird, if I remember right, is that you'd beat about 2 or 3 of its forms, and then it'd do this one atttack which would kill you regardless of where your life bar was. And I never figured out how to avoid it AND hit the bird at the same time. Ya, I didn't read the posts on the last page all too well, sorry. I only ever got one gold gem in the boss fights... that being the one at the end of the 4th stage, because his patterns were incredibly easy to find and dodge.
Ya, the T.T. car ghosts, especially the one on the very first course, were really hard. The plane ones I either hit or miss on, because, again, I was never that good with them. The hovercraft ones I could beat by almost a half lap.
-
Just goes to show you, sales figures do not determine how good a game is. I know of several fun games that are underrated.
-
Pokemon Puzzle League. *nods*
-
I actually liked Gizmos and Gadgets as well as Playtime in the Park. Back when I was about five years old, I used to play them all the time on the ancient Macs they had. I can still remember building a plane for racing in G&G and also the catchy tune of Playtime in the Park.
Yeah, I'm weird. o_0
-
I think House of the Dead was underrated.
-
Gizmos and Gadgets is a really fun educational game. I always enjoyed playing it.
-
Sorry for reviving this thread, but I thought it would be better than just making another thread, since it was only on the second page.
Either way, I think the most underrated game ever is Grabbed by the Ghoulies for the Xbox. Like another Rare (as in the company, not as in hard to find) Kameo, this game started out as a Gamecube game. I know alot of reviewers said this game was crap, but there wrong. It's actually a really fun game, and quite a challenge. Plus, it has some of Rare's ol' subliminal sexual humor (that only older people can understand) that was found in the Banjo games and such.
Another underrated game? Well, sorry for sounding like a Rare fanboy (which I actually kind of am, though), Starfox Adventures. I never got to beat it since I was stuck on that one part with Musclefoot where you had to jam the A button constantly and because I sold my Gamecube (I still own the game, however), but I thought it was pretty addicting. And while many find Tricky to be annoying, I actually like the little guy.
Last but not least, up for a tier, Galactic Pinball and Psychonauts. Galactic Pinball is just a blast to play on the VB and it easily my favorite VB game that I own so far. And Psychonauts reminded me of some of my favorite platformers. It reminded me of Banjo-Kazooie, Sonic Adventure and even Conker a little bit. It's a shame not many people played it, because it needs a sequal.
There are also a few other games I'd put on this list such as Kameo, A Boy and His Blob and Beyond Good & Evil, but I havn't play much of them. Also, I wouldn't really call Diddy Kong Racing underrated, because as fun as it is, it's (along with Goldeneye) one of the few games by Rare that doesn't get any bumrap (well, only that review from Gamespot gave it a mediocre rating. That's it, though).
-
Star Fox Adventures rocked the house, along with every other Star Fox game (GBTG, though...not so much). It would be great if Rare made a new Star Fox game on the Xbox 360 (since they're now owned by MS). That would be so cool to play online against, like, 20 other people, especially with those 360 graphics...
-
I'm still awaiting a Starfox DS (I hope it comes out...) . It would make awesome use of the touch screen... remember Wingman mode in multiplayer Armada? Control the tank using the control pad, and shoot using the touch screen. Come on, you know it'd be awesome...
-
I'd buy it....if Namco stays as far away from the Starfox franchise as possible. It's times like those when I really miss Rare.
-
FSA is one of my favorite Zelda games. It's very unique from other GCN titles. I can see why it's underrated, but if you're an old school gamer, you should at least try it.
-
Let's see... here are a few.
-Wario World
-Sonic Heroes
-Shadow the Hedgehog
-Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (maybe)
-Kirby's Adventure (maybe)
-

I agree. It's one of my favorite Zelda titles.
I think Wario Ware GCN (whatever it's called) is the best Wario Ware yet. Why'd it get a bad rap compared to the other Wario Ware titles? It's multiplayer was awesome.
-
Yes, it was awesome, but I can think of two reasons why people would give it a bad rap:
I) All the core microgames were exactly the same as the GBA release.
II) The microgame graphics look bad for a GCN game (but not for a GBA game).
-
I) But you could compete with those same microgames now.
II) I thought the microgames graphics had a cool retro look on the GCN, but I play GBA games on my 50" TV all the time so that may just be me.
BTW, I think you're right. I'm just stating my opinions.
-
I think the most underrated game is Bust A Groove for the Playstation. Not a lot of people got the concept of the game and I think that's why it's underrated.
-
Other than me, I only know two other people who like the game Alien Hominid.
-
Other than me, I only know two other people who like the game Alien Hominid.
I loved the PDA GAMES! Alien Hominid itself was okay.
-
I agree, the PDA Games rocked. Yeah, the game was fun...the first time around.
-
Probably the most underrated game of recent years was Battalion Wars. It was a short game, but it mixed third person shooting with Real Time Strategy flawlessly.
-
The most underrated game ever is the Monkey Island franchise, here's information on it:
http://www.worldofmi.com
-
Zelda2 is probaly the MOST underated game ever.People hated it just because it was differint then Zelda.
-
The two Pokemon RPGs on the GCN are really underrated. For Pokemon Colosseum, you don't have to be a Pokemon fan to enjoy it. As for Pokemon XD, it was a great game, was larger than Pokemon Colosseum, but it didn't really reach my expectations story-wise. If, say, the hero trainer's dad was killed in the S.S. Libra incident, that would've added a nice shade of darkness to the story. But it's still a great game.
I agree that the Pikmin games are underrated. I traded RE4 for Pikmin 2. Best trade I ever made.
-
-Sonic Heroes
-Shadow the Hedgehog
This (http://soniclifespan.ytmnd.com/) is your ideal YTMND. Now back on topic...
Just see this list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_computer_and_video_games_considered_the_worst_ever#List_of_specific_video_games_considered_to_be_the_worst_ever).
-
I think Drill Dozer is one of the most underrated games of all time. It got good reviews and a lot people liked it, but from what I've heard, it didn't do very well in sales. It is a shame, really. The gameplay was fun, the controls were innovative, the puzzles were cool and it even had built-in rumble! It deserved better sales. Sadly, we'll probably never see a Drill Dozer 2, which is a real pity...
-
I'm going to have to go with a few oldies from my Macintosh.
-Battle Chess. It's chess, but the pieces fight each other when someone gets taken.
-Shufflepuck Cafe. Bascially air hockey for the computer. You use the mouse to control the paddle and beat opponents ranging from regular men to aliens.
-Klondike. It's Solitaire for Mac. It's called Klondike to set it apart from Canfield, another Solitaire game.
-Cairo Shoot Out. It's like the shooting gallery booth at the county fair and the targets are Egyptian symbols. "Walk Like an Egyptian" by the Bangles is featured in this game.
-3 in Three. One of my all time favorites. This is a puzzle/logic game where you are a number 3 tryirng to escape a prison inside the computer.
-Fool's Errand and At the Carnival. Both are from the same guy who wrote 3 in Three and both are also good puzzle/logic type games.
-WordTris. It's like Tetris but also like Scrabble. Put the letter blocks together to make words, which then get eliminated from the board.
-SimAnt. It's like The Sims but you're an ant colony. You learn a lot about ants too and get to experience every aspect of an ant colony.
-OutNumbered. Yes, it's a math game, but I thought I'd mention it here. You save a TV station from takeover by solving word problems, getting clues from them, and matching them up with clues from the robot, who gives you regular math problems.
All of these games are a bit old (they all came out in the late 1980s-early 1990s). Most won't work right on new Macs. Thankfully someone fixed me up with a program called vMac that lets me run them. Most of them are black and white but a few also play in color (some still work on my OS 9 iBook without vMac and they play in color).
-
I wish to present to you, the beautiful readers of TMK (and the ugly ones too), the most underrated game of all time: War in the Hills (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/109/10923.html). It's for your calculator!
-
Some of my friends would have Tetris tournaments with those super advanced, expensive calculators.
-
Ah, Robert, thanks for reminding me. Must buy Drill Dozer. (And Phoenix Wright while we're at it.)
-
Ah, Robert, thanks for reminding me. Must buy Drill Dozer. (And Phoenix Wright while we're at it.)
Drill dozer will be worth every penny you pay for it. It definatly won't dissipoint. Except the final level on the Doom Dozer and the final boss. Those were bad.
-
Banjo Tooie has to be one of the most highly underrated games of all time. I'm sorrry, but I really don't get what people are talking about when they say Banjo Kazooie was better. Sure, it was one heck of an awsome game, but in my mind Tooie will always be far more superior. Super Mario Sunshine and Zelda Wind Waker might not have been better then their predecsors(spelling?), but they were still highly underrated.
-
Many of you probably never owned a Sega Saturn, but if you DID you more than likely owned NiGHTS into Dreams. Now THERE is an underrated game. It's small fanbase is extremely dedicadted and, even after 10 years, still hoping for a sequel. Burning Rangers can be thrown in the same category too.
Also needs more Shaq Fu
EDIT: Now that I think about it, Chu Chu Rocket is another great game that doesnt get the appreciation it deserves
-
EDIT: Now that I think about it, Chu Chu Rocket is another great game that doesnt get the appreciation it deserves
Seconded. Wicked fun, awesome action-puzzle type game. The puzzle mode kept me bust for a while, and the stage creator was quite fun.
-
Come to think of it, I think Pac n' roll was underrated. I loved that game! It truly didn't get the respect it deserved =(. The way you control Pacman was fun. It was frustrating at times, but it was so rewarding when you beat the level. I liked Pac n' roll.
-
I was considering getting Pac N' Roll a while back. Maybe I should again consider getting it.
-
Wario World seems kinda underrated.
I know it was short, painfully so, but I think it was a great game while it lasted.
-
Super Princess Peach.
I just started playing it a few weeks ago, but I already love it. Sure it's extremely easy and at times intelligence-insulting but it has the feel and game mechanics of a Mario platformer. It even includes many past Mario enemies that disappeared into obscurity. For some reason not a lot of people are willing to buy it. I mean it's not like the cover and the Game Card are colored pink.
-
A pink Game Card would be cool. It would go with my pink stylus.
-
A pink Game Card would be cool. It would go with my pink stylus.
Exactly! I came very close to buying a pink DS Lite. It'd be a great way to get others to notice me playing and would be cool to hand down to Hannah. Ah. Now I'm regretting getting the onzx DS Lite. I still might buy a pink one if/when the price drops if I can afford it.
-
I've got four words for all of you. Space Station: Silicon Valley.
-
I'd say Zork is underrated. The last Zork game was Zork: Grand Inquisitor, a 3D graphical (ugh) adventure that came out in 1996. They should make a new, next-gen Zork game for DS that includes two seperate graphical and interactive fiction modes. The lower screen would be a keyboard; how cool would that be?
-

That is possible. Games like point blank are making a comeback, why not Zork?
Back on topic, I think Yoshi Touch & go was pretty good. Not the best, but worth a play. It' great because of it's great pick up n' play style of gameplay, and was arcade-like in nature because of the fact you can have a blast trying to beat your current high score. Great to play when you've beaten and/or are tired of the other games in your DS library.
-
I've got four words for all of you. Space Station: Silicon Valley.
:D
I forgot to mention that one myself!
-
Ah. So I'm not the only one here that knows about SSSV's brilliance, quirkiness and crapload of how-the-heck-do-I-get-over-there type of puzzles. :P
-
I liked Grand Inquisitor more than the other Zorks. Just sayin'. (Not like I could beat any game with Zork in the title, lol)
-
Well, yeah, that's the problem. First off, Activision, the people who currently own the Zork license, aren't very good at making Zork games (the one IF Zork game they made, The Undiscovered Underground, was a pointless, aimless, rambling bunch of nonsense), even if you could convince them to make aa new one for DS (or PC, for that matter). And second, they'd have to get the difficulty just right - too hard and it would turn off pretty much everyone, too easy and it would annoy the Zork fans. And they'd definately have to include the feature to turn graphics on/off, I can't stress that enough. And if they could, I hope that they'd the original Infocom writers; Activision just can't do stories in games no matter how hard they try.
-

I like that game too. It's awesome. It has a nice YI-ish feel to it.

Well, I'm a Zork fan, but haven't beaten any of them.

I wonder if Jetpack is underrated.

They can't as nintendo owns the Star Fox franchise.
Anyway, I think that SMB2 was very underrated. If you can get past the weirdness of mario and co. throwing vegetables at enemies, it's actually quite a good game.
-
I wonder if Jetpack is underrated.
If it is, then it automatically wins. Jetpack is one of the BEST games ever, imo... I still have it on my Windows XP comp. =D
-
You guys are talking about Jetpack and not Jetpac, right? I think you are.
Anyway, you're right. Jetpack RULES (even though I haven't played or seen or heard about it in about 12 years)!
-
Has anyone here heard of 3 in Three?
Didn't think so. It was made for the Apple Macintosh in the early 1990s. It's a puzzle game and is very addicting. Also has some good humor in it.
If you have an older Macintosh by all means find a copy of it! It works perfectly on my iBook with OS 9! (Not sure if it works on OS X or not)
-
I've heard of it. I have yet to find a copy, however.
-
Not sure if all of these are underrated, but I still like them...
Octolris
Jazz Jackrabbit 2
Death Rally
Scorched Earth
While old, I still enjoy playing them. =D
-
Not sure if all of these are underrated, but I still like them...
Jazz Jackrabbit 2
While old, I still enjoy playing them. =D
Hey, I remember Jazz Jackrabbit! I played a Jazz Jackrabbit game on my old Windoews 98. But my old computer is glitched up and in storage. So I can't play it :(. Not really a big lose, though. I only played it once.
-
Addicting is not an adjective!
-
Hoh geeze...
-
Anyway, I think that SMB2 was very underrated. If you can get past the weirdness of mario and co. throwing vegetables at enemies, it's actually quite a good game.
YES.
SMB2 was a true classic, and there are too many people who say it's not a true Mario game and consider it far inferior to the other titles.
-
I don't consider SMB2 inferior. I liked it, but I consider the Japanese version of SMB2 to be the actual SMB2. I enjoyed both (though I was only able to finish SMB2J in its Lost Levels incarnation on SMAS).
They both have very awesome things that I like about them (SMB2J's stepped up difficulty and altered graphics, SMB2USA's uniqueness from the rest of the Mario series).
-
I think that the Naruto: Clash of Ninja series is underrated.
Sure it was horrible from the start, but it was an easy game to pick up and play. Later versions had 4-Player fights which were fun with other people. The Special Attack animations are also fun to watch.
-
Aren't there only two Clash of Ninja games available?
-
There's at least 4 on the Gamecube, with a fifth coming out for the Wii. In Japan anyway. The third and fourth installments haven't been released in America yet.
-
Yes, there are only 4 released right now.
US version- Clash of Ninja (2 installments)
JPN version- Gekitou Ninja Taisen! (4 Installments)
-
Anybody remember the game "Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure?" It was developed by Apogee software in the early 90s, along with some other good, possibly underrated games.
-
Yeppers, sure do. Played that along with Commander Keen and Duke Nukem 1 and 2.
Good stuff!
-
Weeeeeee, bump.
I've cracked open ZSNES since I've had a lot of free time over winter break and rediscovered two puzzle-type games (both for SNES, obviously) that I don't think many people have heard of.
First off, Spindizzy Worlds. You play as a top-like probing craft that runs around isometric "planets" trying to figure out how to get past each room and clear the planet. You can beat a world by getting to a teleport device, collecting all the "items" in a room, etc. It's a bit hard to describe, but some of the levels have some very clever solutions.
The one I'm working on now is Krusty's Super Fun House. Yes, a puzzle-type game based on the Simpsons series. You play as Krusty, who has to run around his mansion and pick up blocks and other things to guide a group of rats to an exterminator to clear each level. Starts easy, but it gets surprisingly difficult (I recommend an emulator for some of these levels; there's some I don't think I'd be able to pass without savestates).
-
Man, I remember the second game.... I once had this racing game on the N64, was called Mickey's speedway USA (Or something) yes I know, usually games like these are crappy, but this one, wasn't! I started out that some thieves stole Mickey's dog pluto for his daimond collar, and are out and about through the country, so the gang goes of to save them, I had good track design, and graphics superior to MK64, but I lost it :(
-
Incidentally, my brother decided to try out Krusty's Super Fun House the other night, only he didn't really like it (I never could get into it).
It's hard for me to look at games and tell how most people feel about them, and it's particularly hard with the fact that so many games could be considered cult classics, and that a lot of the opinion could be from having a mediocre game when you were a child, so it got to grow on you more (even in rental).
But I feel like saying E.V.O.: Search for Eden, only because I always liked this scene (http://noom.kontek.net/images/games/evo/followtyrasaurus.gif), from when you enter a level and choose to rule the land with the Tyrasaurus (after which you get to continue exactly where you did before, without even losing a life).
