I think this would be a good topic, so I decided to put it here. I wanted to make a topic for people like me that can't figure out what's what online, whether it be the lingo or how to do something right. It should benifit for those that have struggled to know computer things. And, if this topic is a complete bomb, please delete it and erase it from your memories.
-
Why would they delete a terrible topic just to save you the embarassment?
-
*laughs.* Hehe....I think this is a good topic. I'm an idiot when it comes to computers.
-
Lesson #1: The Power Button
Usually located on the computer and monitor, this turns the devices on or off.
-
Lesson #2: The Basic Input Devices
Two of the most common microcomputer input devices are the keyboard and mouse. The keyboard is used to type commands into the computer manually. The mouse is used by moving it around to correspondingly maneuver a cursor around your monitor display. The mouse also has buttons for additional input.

I just got schooled. XP

Is this topic supposed to be about how to usea computer, or about the Internet and its culture? If it's about the latter, I need a lot of help. Just a few days ago, a friend of mine told me one of his favorite expressions: "Want some 1337 sauce on your n00b cake?" I asked him what 1337 sauce tasted like, and where I could get a n00b cake.
If that isn't proof of how much help I need, I don't know what is. :P

Hey, I don't even know how to quote! You're among friends.
This topic is for any computer/Internet-related Q, and we'll try to give you the A, just as soon as Geek Squad shows up.
-
Okay! Here's how to quote, Mr.Melee.
type [ quote ] insert quote here [ quote ] (without the spaces, of course).
or
Here's the easy way: Click the little button above each person's message that looks like a little cute doggie's face :)
-
The doggie's face is really a talking message block from Yoshi's Island.
-
For easier reference, ther's a help button on the top of the page.

Lesson #3:
The Spellcheck. Use it.
-
This site has a spell check?
-
Yet again: "Wow."
-
Lesson #3:
The Spellcheck. Use it.
Lesson #4
Don't try to correct someone on something you do also.
-
Let's see...ah! Internet lingo. Let's see here....
lol- Laugh out loud, laughing online...there are a few things that can derive from that term.
rofl- Roll on floor laughing...If I am correct.
idk- I don't know
bbl- Be back later
bbwl- Not commonly used (or at least not to me) translates to: Be back way later.
Eh, that's all I can think of off of the top of my head.
EDIT: Yeah, 140th post!
-
Does anyone know what idk means? I've seen people use it.
-
I don't know.
-
iirc- if I recall correctly
afk, d, ds- away from keyboard, desk, DS (only in AC)
brb- be right back
-
Does anyone know?
-
It stands for I don't know.
You're silly. :p
-
What stands for I don't know?
-
who's on first?
-
Who knows what idk stands for?
-
Idk stands for I don't know. Clearly, we all got confused.
-
I don't know what idk means, sorry. :(
Yes, who is on first.
Who?
Yes.
I don't know's on third, by the way.

A lesson for video game systems or anything equal to or less than a lot of money: If it doesn't work 100% accurate, return it.
This is exactly what I'm doing. I just got a DS today *hurray theme music* but I have to return it *wa-wa-waaaaa*. One little cell on the top screen is dead, and that could spread, so I looked at that lesson...
-
Next Lesson,
A Computer Is Not A Paperweight...
-
Can it be used as home base?

How to build a website (just copy the code I posted onto Frontpage or Notepad):
<html>
<head>
<title>*your title goes here*</title>
</head>
<body>
*your text goes here*
<img src="*your image source goes here*"|alt="*your text goes here*"</img>
</body>
</html>
If you want to make a marquee, copy this code:
<marquee behaivor=alternate>*your text goes here*<img src="*your image source goes here*"</img></marquee>
-
Woah! I bet I could make a sweet website now.

This is pretty much barebones for a web site. This HTML code couldn't compare to The Mushroom Kingdom's HTML code.
If you were going to make a website like that, it would look like this:
------------------------------------------------------------------
On Bluebar on top on page: HTML Help
This is how you make a website
1.You do this 2.You do that 3.You do that. (Image here.)
------------------------------------------------------------------
This is it on notepad:
html>
<head>
<title>HTML HELP</title>
</head>
<body>
1. You do this.
2.You do that.
3. You do that.
<img src="*your image source goes here*"|alt="*your text goes here*"</img>
</body>
</html>
Really. There are no line breaks, no new paragraphs, even though it looks like it on Notepad, it won't look like that. Instead of doing what that code says, take some class on HTML Buidling or read up, it'll be better then the barebones quality of the above code.
No offense, cantthinkofaname, but that is one sad piece of code.
Lesson ended!!
-
Mr.Melee, my DS has a dead pixel, and has for over a year. It doesn't bother me.
-
It doesn't matter now. I got a new one and I've been addicted to MKDS already.
Making websites..codes...great. I'm more bwhind than I thought.
