there dfeinitly are. who cares about donky konga and king of swing? donkey kong 64 was the last good donkey kong game (my opinion). why cant they make a game just like that? and donkey kong country was good too. they should make a game just like that for GBA or DS? does anyone else agree with me?
-
Well, Donkey Kong sure hasn't been doing too well latley, that's for sure, but I though King of the Swing and JungleBeat were pretty fun (though they aren't as good as the countries or DK64). On the bright side the upvcoming Bongo Blast, KoSDs and Diddy Kong Racing DS will all be with us in a short time, thus reviving DK's former glory.
-
theres going to be a diddy kong racer for the DS?
-
donkey kong 64 was the last good donkey kong game.
Lies! Try DK country! DK64 sucked. I quote from on magazine when I say this "After SM64 Breathed life into the 3D platformer genre
and Dk64 came along and sucked it back out. Although DK Jungle Beat wasn't bad...
-
Are you all serious?Donkey Kongs games are amazing.ALL of them.
-
Yeah all of the DK countries, originals, and maybe Junngle beat.
-
First off, Donkey Kong 64 was NOT the last good DK game. DK64 is possibly one of the most disappointing games I've ever gone through--way, WAY too much collecting. King of Swing was a bit of a yawn fest as well, but DK redeemed himself in Jungle Beat. That game is ludicrously fun. The Donkey Konga games are fun too, but like the Mario Sports titles, I don't really think of them as being part of the core DK series.
But yeah, other than Diddy Kong Racing on DS, there's not much in the Kong's future (right now) that looks too tantalizing. Here's hoping we can someday get Donkey Kong Country 4 on the DS or something.
-
Mario vs Donkey Kong is great, and the upcoming sequel will probably shape up nicely too. I've never cared too much for Rare's Donkey Kong platformers though.
-
because of mario, metroid and zelda, donkey kong just got abandonded.
-
true, now his a forggoten chimp left in the back of nintendos mind.
-
He is a gorilla.;)
He isn't forgotten.
-
Wow, I can believe this many people hate DK64. I mean, I knew KoS wasn't that well liked (even though it's my second favorite DK game), but DK64 was a gold mine of fun in my opinion.

I have to disagree with you there for Bongo Blast is looking like a blast of fun to me.
-
All I'm gonna say is some of the Donkey Kong Country levels are like bad spin offs of the levels from Super Mario Bros.
-
I liked DK64.
I mean, sure, all I succeeded in the game was rescuing all the characters and then basically running around aimlessly for the rest of the game, but still! It had its fun moments.
And whatever happened to all those playable primates? They didn't even appear as trophies in SSMB. :(
-
It all went downhill after Rare left, and to think, we could have had Donkey Kong Racing on the GCN. <:-(
-
How did they go downhill Junglebeat was amazing,we have diddy kong racing coming for DS,3 DKC remakes, king of swing and so on.
-

I suppose you also think some Sonic The Hedgehog levels and levels in any other platform game that isn't made by Nintendo are like "bad spinoffs" of the levels from Super Mario Bros.

I agree 1000% that DK64 was a great game. How can anyone dislike it??? I realize people have different opinions, but my mind boggles, seriously. DK64 is one of the best 3D games ever, IMO, and probably one of the best games ever period. I've played hours upon hours upon hours of it since I got it not too long ago, not getting a bit bored of finding the same bananas over again on different data files. Yes, it is long, and it does involve a LOT of collecting, but every bit of the collecting is pure fun to me, since there's so much variety in the places and ways you collect stuff. And I wouldn't have the game any shorter myself, since the longer a game as great as this is, the more unbelievable fun can be gotten out of it the first time through, and the greater the replay value is. Also, the game is full of amusing and entertaining characters, has awesome music, and has some of the most spectacular boss fights I've ever seen. All this adds up to make DK64 a truly outstanding contribution to video gaming.

Considering that Rare lost the vast majority of it's talented team members shortly before leaving Nintendo, I don't see it as a loss, and if Nintendo had kept them, their Donkey Kong games would be just as average as say, Grabbed by the Ghoulies or Kameo or Perfect Dark
Disappointment Zero.
And yeah, I did fail to mention Bongo Blast and Mario vs Donkey Kong 2. I'm personally not too excited about those two right now, but I'll probably give BB a rent when it comes out. A bongo-driven racer just doesn't fire me up as much as a DKC-style sidescroller would... drool.
Mario vs Donkey Kong 2 on the otherhand, DOES sound like a pretty fun dealio, however, it's more of a puzzler/strategy deal now (you indirectly control the mini-Marios ala Lemmings) when I was hoping for something more like Donkey Kong '94. So again, I'm not all fired up about it, though I'm sure it'll be a slick game when it comes out (level editor? Hells yeah!).

.... And they say it's hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic over the net. Give me a break here, I know people have different opinions, but alot of people I know liked DK64 to a fair extent and I didn't know it was the Mario Sunshine of Donkey Kong games (then again DK64 came first, so I suppose Sunshine is more like the DK64 of Mario games).

Actually, the amount of people who left Rare is usually over exagirated, and I rember hearing somewhere that a fair majority of the people who left, left because of the whole buyout thing (could be wrong though).

MeThinks that people don't like DK64 because it was extremley a long and a (I guess) hard game. It was still fun, like in the factory level, you can play the orignal DK! (or you can just go to the title screen.)
For Example, SMB2j the lost levels. I guess most people would consider it really hard. I still couldn't beat it, and now my SNES is missing in my storage basement!

No it's not that it is all of the ridiculous collecting. You had the gold, yellow, red, orange, purple, and some other color of bananas to collect and that really killed the game.

I know that and after I got bored, that was the only reason I even touched the game. To get it on the title screen though, I think you have to get the nintendo coin.
-
Yeah, after I 100%ed the game (which in retrospect I'm shocked I had the time and patience to do), the only things that kept me coming back were Donkey Kong, Jetpac and the mine cart levels. And even that stuff I haven't touched in years.
DK64 wasn't an awful game by any means, it just wasn't anything special, either.

I'm going to agree with this comment. I mean, after how fun the DKC games were, and DKR, DK64 was quite a bit of a disappointment in my mind. I mean, it looked beautiful, and the levels were big with things to explore... but they lacked SOMETHING. I don't know what.
As for that comment about DKC ripping off of the SMB series, I'll say that I think DKC and SMB were polar OPPOSITES in level design. I mean, SMB was simple and all the objects in the game were simple to figure out -- DKC was much more elaborate and featured what seemed like new gameplay elements thrown at you in every stage. Both worked.

I think the word is "Barrels" you know, throwing barrels. you only saw them at boss stages and bonus games.
-
donkey kong games are so lame now
Well maybe if Nintendo respected Rare's version, they wouldn't be half as bad.
-
Not really, all DK games seem bad to me. But not DK Racing or the games where u use the bongos. those were only SOME fun.
-

Wait a minute...
What... the... freakin'... heck?!
I was NOT being sarcastic at all! I really do like DK64 that much! What on earth made you think I was sarcastic???
I'm almost never sarcastic online.

Yeah, they were a lot different. DKC had two playable charachters and THE very first mine cart level that every platformer has HAD to include since. SMB was better, but by all means DKC made the "Kremlins Cry Out for Mummy"(I love the DK rap, if someone can, tell me if you can download it and if so, where?).
-
I love the DK rap, if someone can, tell me if you can download it and if so, where?).
I don't have it, but I think the DK Rap rocks
-
I loved DK64. Sure, it was basically Banjo-Kazooie with the whole cast replaced and more collectables added, but I liked that. At least it's not up to it "butt" in Shine Sprites.
Ha ha ha, sorry, I couldn't resist. But either way, I also loved DK64. I thought collecting all of that stuff was fun rather than tedious like most find it. Oh, and I also liked the DK Rap, but I hated the SSBM version, and not just because they replaced the word "hell" with "heck".
As for the games being lame now, that all depends on wether you liked Rare's DK games or Nintendo's more.
-
the dk rap is awsome and the ending boss was sort of a let down i meen realy a boxing ring comes out of no ware and evryone is there hello strange or is it just me
-
I tried to come up with an idea for Donkey Kong Country 4, but that idea eventually became my inspiration for my fanfic The Ultimate Quest.
-
The DK Rap is the worst thing to happen to music since the Baha Men.
-
I hate DK, but think of it this way, if the original Donkey Kong didn't come out, we wouldn't have any Mario today.
-
They dont make any new good games. all they do is remake it for the gameboy. ex. donkey kong country
-
Nintendo got rid of Rare because Miyamoto San(HAHAHAHAH!!!!) Hated them and they feared that Miyamoto San would quit so they got rid of Rare
-
Don't be stupid.
-
Watch G4 moran!*a fight breaks out but neither are victorius*
-
G4 sucks.
And you're talking to an admin.
-
Well any way the show is called Game Makers and they was talking about Donkey Kong.
Yes Sir!*Does a soulute*
-
The only Donkey Kong games I've played are the Country Trilogy (it is awesome), Donkey Kong, and Donkey Kong JR (they are good too), and Donkey Kong 64 (it's great). I don't know what people are talking about when they say that there was too much collecting in Donkey Kong 64...there were 201 golden bananas in the game, but you only needed 100 of them. And you only needed half of the normal bananas in the whole game as well.
I don't really consider Diddy Kong Racing to be a true Donkey Kong title; Nintendo's trademark isn't even on the cartridge. It was a decent game, however.
-

How could you hate DK? He's awesome! Is it because he's not as smart as everyone else?
