Title: What are you learning about in life?
Post by: Yoshisaurus Rex on June 10, 2006, 03:26:25 PM
Hey there again!  I didn't think that I would get a new topic idea so soon, but when I feel like I get inspiration to create or do something, I can't rest until I get it done!

This topic is about the important things that you learn in life and what you want other people to know too. What are you learning from in books, movies, experiences, etc that we need to learn?  You can talk about things like education too, but I prefer to stick with lessons in life.  I also suggest that you let people know what you will talk about before you begin so they don't have to read the whole thing to find out.  Like, make a heading of what you are going to talk about such as "Truth and Consequences" (I underlined this paragraph and another so people would know it's the most imporant ones).  We can consider what kind of boundaries to have for this later.

Maybe you think that you already know everything there is too know--like I use to think-- but now I'm really beginning to see how little I know and how much I can still learn.  And even if there are things you already know, sometimes we have to hear them a few times to really remember them.  That's the way I am at least.

One thing to mention, I want to say that I didn't copy The Fungi Gazette with this idea so you don't have to arrest me and throw me in the TMK Dungeon of Bread XD.  Second, I bet that some people may feel like I'm just making this topic as another way to talk about my beliefs and religion, but that's not the case at all.  I might talk about stuff like that later, but I'll try to have some restraint so I don't scare people away.  Now I'll share what I have learned (in a way)

Women Can Be Understood!

Recently I read a magnificant, mind-blowing book called "For Men Only: A Straightforward Guide to The Inner Lives of Women".  This really opened up my mind to the ways that most women may think and what they really want in life.  Do you think that it's impossible to understand women?  Think again.  Seriously, I think that all men should read this book before they get in a relationship with a girl because this stuff could save your behind!  While I read it I began to realize why so many couples argue about things you would think of as simply dumb and not worth fighting about.  It's because men and women have different needs and see things in different ways!  As I read through every chapter of the short book I literally gasped out loud and refused to believe my mind.  It all made perfect sense and sounded so right.  Seven little facts that can make a great difference.

I wish that I had the book with me to give a quick overview, but I'm not at home right now, but maybe some other time.  I hope that this information can prepare me to become a more understanding friend to girls and a better husband to my wife (if I do get married).  Excuse me for raving and advertising there.  Have fun and let your minds grow by sharing and listening. (I sure hope this idea hasn't been done before ^_^:)

Global Warming

If we keep polluting the earth because of our own laziness or selfishness, then we will all come to regret this in the mere future.  If humans keep up the destructive means that have been going on for the last century, then the earth will become a destructive raging planet that nobody wants to live on anymore.  Temperatures will rise, storms will get stronger, the sea level will get higher, some species of animals will become extict, lots of humans will die, crops would be harder to grow, lives would be ruined, etc.  The list goes on and on.  If humans do not curb global warming soon, then we may pass a point of no return, and we have to live with a terrible environment for the rest of our lives and the many lives before us until the planet of Earth comes to an end.  There are lots of simple little tasks that we can all do to ensure a peaceful future on this planet.

There is some stuff you could do just to name a few.

Well, I was watching Dragon Tales the other day until my sister starting complaining to my mother that I was turning sixteen in a few weeks and I was pathetic, so I put on Drake and Josh, which I think gets cheaper laughs and the plots are less fulfilling in the end.  But before I changed it, I learned that teamwork is both helping another while accepting help from another.  Not just one or the other.  TEAMWORK, YEAH!

I have recently learned never to let my sister resize the desktop again. It's been stuck in "Cannot display this Video mode" for days now and we've tried to find solutions to fix it but none of them worked.

CW and Vid: Lol, yeah I know.  I'm trying to experiment with new ideas and maybe this isn't the best.  I enjoy learning new things from people and passing it on, and thought that maybe others would too.

Fuzzy: I'm thankful for your concern.  I think that most people don't think about this topic very much because (1 they don't understand it, (2 they don't believe it,(3 they don't want to make the huge changes in their life, or (4 they don't think there's any way to stop it.  For myself I kind of worry that it could be just a scheme for taking money (to use for other purposes).  But I do think that we should be responsible with how we treat the environment and I'll try to find out more about this soon.

Markio: Yay, Dragon Tales! XD

Being Healthier

I'm reading a book called Seismic Shifts (how to make little changes in life with big results) and it talked about very simple things you can do to start losing weight and feeling better.
1: eat your food slower and enjoy it, and stop eating as soon as you feel satisfied but not full. So... you want to be ^_^ and not X_X.
2: drink a lot more water instead of pop/soda and other carbonated drinks.  At first I grew irritated from drinking so much but found out how much this can help with a lot of things
3: plan on what you're going to eat before you start a meal, how much you're going to eat, and decide when to stop eating
4. exercise (duh).  Find activities that are fun to do and also get you in shape (such as sports and DDR!).  But be careful not to overdo it.
5. Take off one day a week to relax and not work as hard as you usually do.  Rushing around 7 days a week can make you really tired or even sick.  You can focus better after a break.
6. Don't worry abou things you can't control.

How could global warming be a scheme for taking money?
Title: Re: What are you learning about in life?

I am so angry at my parents for not replacing the gas lawnmower with an electric one!  In the long run it will save them a ton of money, but they still wont do it!  Gas mowers are really bad for the environment.  I was shocked when I had first found out how bad they are.  It costs about $35 a year to maintain a gas mower, but it only cost about $5 a year to maintain an electric one!  My parents are just being lazy and selfish.  They could care less about how bad gas mowers are for the environment.  This is why I must do something about it.  But what?  Do they really expect me to buy one with my own money?

Wow you are really serious with the environment!
Title: Re: What are you learning about in life?

Electric Mowers are really bad for you when you run over the cord and you have to get a new cord. Electricity uses natural gases, nuke power, and coal. Therefore, we are hurting the environment by using electricity. THerefore, by coming to the Fungi Forums, you are killing the Ozone Layer. In fact, cutting the grass disturbs the natural ecosystems of the prarie-- lets not cut the grass at all!

C'mon... seriously, if you over analyze everything, you can find bad stuff with it all. Don't over-analyze. You are using a little bit of gas. I guarantee that your grass cutter is not as bad as that SUV you have.
Title: Re: What are you learning about in life?
Post by: fuzzy on June 13, 2006, 04:56:00 PM
Electric lawnmowers do not come with cords anymore because they use a charging capability.  It is better for a lawnmower to be powered by electricity then be gas.  There is a big difference.  I know that every time someone uses electricity they are contributing to the greenhouse effect (not destroying the o-zone) but I am not wasting the electricity.  That is the big thing.  Leaving an appliance on when you are not using it is bad.  Just use electricity responsibly.  Of course it would be nice if my computer ran on solar energy, but it doesn't.  I wouldn't call my front or backyard a prarie either.  And did you know that using a gas mower for an hour is equivilent to driving a new car for 39 miles?  I just can't use a small device that will do that much damage.  It is just ridiculous.

Who is this Yoshi55 that everbody thinks is annoying?

Take action about the environment and I will stop being annoying.

In short, Yoshi55 was A NARROW-MINDED TROLL.
Why? In short, he called anyone who disagreed with his opinions a n00b.
Why is this something The Chef should have said? Not the opinion part, but the fact that each and every post he made had to have something to do with the '80s.
I'm certainly not calling you a narrow-minded troll just for being an environmentalist. Maybe someday you'll invent a car that not only keeps the air clean, but cleans the air. and how happy will we be then?

Reality sucks.

The easiest way for me to escape reality is by playing video games.  It relieves the stress I get from the cruel world.
Title: Re: What are you learning about in life?

LD: I meant that global warming could be a small problem that is blown up to look like a huge problem to take money.  Not that I know this is the case or that anyone/everyone does it, but I just have a bad feeling about it.  On the other hand, I suppose that anyone could do that, even those who deal with well-known causes like starvation.

Fuzzy: I agree with them about the balancing thing.  We can't force people to accept our views and we have to find a sane balance in life so we don't lose our minds.  I'm sorry about your disappointment but we have to find things that aren't too difficult to do but could still make a big difference.  I try to save energy where I can.

Kojinka: That's probably not a good idea-- trying to escape reality.  I used to do the same thing and found myself losing out on many of the good things in life.  Life is terrible at times but it can also be wonderful too.  If you're going through rough times I hope you'll make it through.

I didn't say I don't enjoy life.  I just said that I play video games to relieve the stress that  I sometimes get from the terrible stuff in life. (and because they're fun!)  Believe me.  I had to suffer through my roughest times back in 2004 when my mom died.  I think I've made it through that one.  I just continue on with life.  I'm trying to think of the good things that are currently going on with life, ummm... crap.  The terrible stuff is outnumbering the good stuff. :( I think I might still be going through some rough times.  I'm doing my best to pull through.  In the song of Little Orphan Annie, "The sun will come out tomorrow."  I finally realize the meaning of that song.
Title: Re: What are you learning about in life?

Oh, excuse me for that.  I thought you meant that you would only play video games to relieve stress and do nothing else.  That's another story.  I'm sorry for saying that without thinking, and for the situation with your mom.  I would be so heartbroken if that happened to me.

Oh, and something I learned was that if something is going to happen and the future and you can't change it, make sure there is nothing you can do to change it, then accept that it is coming and be prepared for it, but don't lament over it during the present because that can ruin a perfectly good present when the future thing hasn't even happened yet.

Okay, I'm not coming to this thread to complain or start a fight. I came here to explain what I've learned about life.

Life. What is life? What does it mean? Well, It's not something that can be achieved or won. It's not about being better than everyone else at everything possible. It's not something that one person has that another doesn't. It's a gift from God. The fact that life is something everyone can love every day is God's greatest achievement. In a way, he himself is a scientist, creating the universe's greatest invention. Choosing life each day and just living is the most wonderful thing you can give back to him. That's what I've learned about life.

Markio: Yeah, that's so true and very easy to forget.  We can't change the past so we just have to learn from our mistakes and keep moving forwards.  But I think you could have found an easier way to say it. ;)

PaperLuigi: Yes indeed.  But even greater and much more difficult is to live your whole life for God.  That's simply what I believe but for myself I'm seeing that it seems true.

Title: Re: What are you learning about in life?
Post by: Yoshisaurus Rex on June 16, 2006, 11:34:12 PM
Lol.  I wonder about that too. (Were Adam and Eve, if real, different colors?)  There's a great debate at other topics about whether or not all of Genesis is literal and I don't feel like talking about it here.  But others can if they want to.  Just get ready to enter a tunnel of questions that has no end!

Discrimination

Recently I'm learning how much I need to be friendly to all people and not just the ones who I like more.  I didn't really notice it at first but then I realized that I have a problem with treating people differently (depending on their looks or personality) and that's pretty awful.  So... I'm going to work on that because I want everyone to have a friend.  I'm sorry if I've been like that to any of you guys.

Hey, I got a custom title!  Yeah!  I never thought of myself as a bookworm but maybe I am (I need to read more books about other viewpoints though)  And I just realized that another reason I don't join the chat room is because I'm a slow thinker and have to keep editing posts and saying new things.  Not just IRClueless.

Questions

I need to make an apology for something.  As you have probably noticed, I have been asking a lot of questions in threads like "A Survey This Is" and "I Don't Believe it!" while trying to answer as many as I can.  This alone probably isn't terrible but my intentions may have been.  While reading a new book *imagines people rolling their eyes* I learned that everything in life can be questioned and if you try to give people all of the answers or act like you know everything, then they might get irritated and you yourself can get frustrated and lose sight of the important stuff.

Questions can go on forever and it isn't terrible if you don't know all of the answers to everything.  Nevertheless, I believe that there are things in this world that are absolutes and we can stand on as truth.  "A truly wise (wo)man has more questions than (s)he does answers."

No.  I used to fish and I feel terrible.  Fishing is very very very cruel and painful to the fish.  I wish fishing could be less painful, but I really wish fishing would stop alltogether.  I strongly believe that man should be separated from water creatures and their cycle of life.

Meat is actually quite healthy, and for people doing the paleo diet, it would be tough not to eat it since all you're allowed to eat is meat, fruit and vegetables.  Being vegetarian is a personal choice, and I like the moral about vegetarian-carnivore cohabitation that was presented in the end of a Simpson episode where Lisa goes vegetarian.

Fuzzy: I eat meat because I believe that God made animals to serve people and as food to eat, not for us to serve them (but not without restrait).  I don't want to offend you, because I can imagine how you feel about this.  I don't like cruelty to animals either.

Man, I have got to try that trick with the mentos! *gets up and goes running to the store* I'm glad this thread was good for something. >_>

Stay tuned for when I talk about a few little-known facts about women and some of the things they really want, from the book "For Men Only"!  If you think that this is a dumb joke or too good to be true... don't worry.  The authors did a lot of research on this topic and even had a national survey of women.  The facts may not be true for all women, but just give it a shot and tell me what you think.  It sounds right to me and I want guys to hear about this.

If you really love someone, you shouldn't need to look in a book to know what they're like.

Unless you're in love with a book character.

Very true.
You know, I wonder if anyone's actually even fallen in actual, deep love with a ficitonal character... that'd be rather sad... *pictures self hugging David Copperfield while screaming, "I love you Little Em'ly!"*
But, anywhichwayandwhatever, I have learned that in life, I only need one role model; God.  He is, after all, the only pure being (in my book).

I've always seeen Charles M. Schulz as a role model. It's a long story.

Oh no!  Bird Person is dying!  He needs help quick! *calls 911*

Fuzzy: Thanks for the links.  I might check those out later.  I am grateful for your concern for animals and that you want other people to feel like you, but it may not be possible to make some people believe what you do with force.  If you are more gentle about the subject, people are more likely to listen to you.  Just a little tip.

Markio: Yeah, that's definitely "post of the year" material!  I agree with you, but not entirely.  Men and women think differently from each and no matter how much you love your significan other, if you can't really understand each other then problems can happen.  Reading books about relationships won't hurt anything as long as you don't obsess over facts or do everything that everyone says.

Friends can be pretty dissapointing at times.  I really wanted one of my friends to sign this petition that was very important to me but she wouldn't.  Why?  I have no idea.  You think she would be a little bit more sympathetic.

I bet she didn't believe in whatever it was the petition was for. Or maybe her arm was broken.

Help her out with a diet program. Only buy healthy foods. Excersise together; It's more fun with a partner.

Man YR, that's one heck of a list! I must say you know more about women than I'll ever know in my whole life. I'm a little clueless when it comes to women, which might explain why I don't have a girlfriend yet.

I find any material that believes it has "figured out" women annoying. I think that the opposite sex of my species is as complicated as I am, and can't be completely broken down in a "guide to women" like a machine in its instruction manual.

I'm learning that you get what you give during life, and even if you do give more, you can still receive less than what other people get for basically nothing.

Post by: Yoshisaurus Rex on June 26, 2006, 02:32:29 PM
TEM: I'm not saying that this book has women completely figured out, and the book doesn't say that either.  It's just seven big theories about women that appear to be backed up by research, many comments, and a national survey.  I bet there's lots of things that men and women will never understand about each other.  And this stuff may seem obvious but the book dives in deeper and has much more to say about things.  I just want to help guys out if some of it is true.  We must do whatever we can to try and understand the complicated mystery that is the female mind!

Suffix: Guh!  Sorry that happened to you.  I'm just glad it wasn't the "end" of your computer. *rimshot* Hey, I can see your foot in the picture!

SSM: I think that giving is a wonderful feeling even if you don't get anything back too.  Why is it so hard to give then?

Aw, why can't we just leave the females be?  They ain't no less com-ply-cated  than men.

A stupid discovery I made last night:

I stayed up late, and needed to go to bed. I couldn't turn on my light, because my parents were sleeping. Instead, I reached around, trying to prepare the bed in the dark. I remembered my DS, and turned it on, putting the volume on mute. The DS makes a pretty good flashlight.

You can back up absolutely anything you want to say with "research" but that doesn't make it correct. Do 100% of guys all exhibit the same mannerisms? No, and so why would a book assume that women did? I can understand some girls way better than others, and I would go even so far as to say that those girls understand me rather well also. What do you think about that?

*rests head on desk and sighs* Yes, it may not be completely correct and it may not apply to all women.  It's simply a few suggestions of things to try if they are true.  People can test them out and see if they are right, and if they aren't then they don't have to do them.  I believe you, Chup, and I somewhat agree with Markio about truly loving someone without needing outside help (do you have a girlfriend, btw?).  Okay, now I'll try to stop defending myself for now.

Who's Maddox?

Down The End of the Road

Speaking of life, I am learning to keep thinking about the end of life because we all know that life is short.  If you can remember that every day, then you may start to look at it differently.  We all know this but it can be hard to remember it.  And you never know when other people will die too so we have to treat everyone with that in mind.

I'm not frustrated, I guess I'm just tired of explaining myself (or not being able to say what I'm trying to say).  No offense to anyone.  I need to be more careful with what I say.  And, fuzzy, you might not want to say "freakin'" because some people could become offended.  Adjectives can be dangerous! XD

(I responded so fast because I was thinking of changing what I said but then just decided to say why here)

Truth Is Everywhere

Something new I learned recently is that you can find truth in anything, even from things, people, and religions that you disagree with.  Truth is not limited to one particular area but anyone can speak or live truth no matter who they are.  It's out job to sort through everything we come across and decide whether or not it's true and we can trust it completely.  And also, that we should never believe everything that we hear but continue to ask questions, be truly honest with ourselves, and listen closely.  If you look for truth then you will find it.

Happy 4th of July!

Edit: Heh.  I like how Lizard Dude sounded like something out of a self-help book.
