NONE LIKE IT HOT!
Welcome to the environmental thread! This is here to discuss the issue about the environment, but in particulare about global warming.
I will post things one can do to help curb global warming and save Earth from impending doom. Then you will give feedback on the thread about what help topic we are currently talking about. If you do what is asked, then you get points to your name. Be sure to tell me about other things you have done to get extra points!
In conclusion, this thread is all about what you can do to help the environment for the better in a fun way so the Earth will not be destroyed.

HELP #1:
Make sure your thermostat is no lower than 78 degrees this summer!
Almost half of the energy we use in our homes goes to heating and cooling. You could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple adjustment. The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy has more tips for saving energy on heating and cooling.
Worth 5 Points.
-
I think the above tip only makes sense if you have air conditioning... all I have is heating.
-
You get 20 points for not having any cooling in the first place.
Hirocon-20 pts.
Your winning!
-
I would say something, but I would regret it sooooo...I'm not.
-
I have like, 5 fans around my house since my thermostat broke when my family first moved into this house. So it doesn't really apply to me.
Ugh, those colors are so bright, it's blinding.
-
Well, Mr. Wiggles since you are not using any airconditioning at all I will give you a few points for that. Just remember, when the problem is fixed: No lower than 78 degrees in summer.

G-Dawg, you can post your opinions here! In fact that would probably be best, so please do.
-
OK...I honestly don't care about the environment...AT ALL. I don't think that anything's going to happen that is WORLD ENDING. Well I mean, I care for animals and this and that...but the Global Warming thing is a joke.
-
That's okay. So are you saying you don't believe in global warming?
-
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Thank You.
-
My air conditioner is set at 67°, with 2 fans inside of it blowing.
I WIN! :D
-
I have only my fan and my window. No air conditioning, just heat.
-
Well, Fuzzy, you try to persuede us here on the internet, but does your whole town practice these things?
If not, you should try to advocate to them. We know you want to do something, but telling us to do things that We aren't going to do is spamming and flooding. Please give it a rest.
My opinion is that the world is already irreversably damaged and we've done too much damage already. There is too much pollution already. I believe in global warming, and it's all or faults. Unless people that want to kill anyone who ever polluted and clean out the air, the earth is facing it's last few centuries.
Sure helping a little is fine, but that's like a quarter in earth's parking meter.
-

That is much too low. You are making Earth even more not enjoyable. Thanks. Thanks for destroying future generations and making this problem even more difficult than it already is.
I have only my fan and my window. No air conditioning, just heat.
You people are great! 20 points!
solidmushroom: No, no, no, no, no, no. We will never get anywhere with that attitude! Remember, at the end of the day we should not get too discouraged. What you do is only part of the equation. That was true. But every little bit helps! Governments are the real stoppers of this, but that doesn't mean we are off the hook. Even if your theory is correct, does that mean we should just go on polluting? Of course not! Stay on track and never lose focus.
-

Why not? I want to live the rest of my life happy, not uncomfortable. I mean I'd rather live a short happy life than a long miserable one.
-
Come on you two, please don't do this. Don't argue.
-
Umm...uhhh...He started it!!! *points at fuzzy*

I have a Honda Civic Hybrid, but I typically drive 2+ hours a day.
I don't have an AC in my house, but the central fan, ceiling fans, dishwasher, TV, computer, etc. are almost always on.
My recyle bin usually has more in it then my trash bin, but I waste a lot. For example, I leave the water running while brushing my teeth and shaving, my wife takes a lot of large jacuzzi baths, and I water my lawn, flowers, and trees twice a day.
In other words, anything good I do for the environment is probably canceled out by what I do bad to it. That's typical. For example, electronics become more effecient, but people use more electronics so the total electricity used does not decrease. Same thing happens with food/crops. Farmers/companies become more effecient and yield more consumable food by using things like fertilizers, pesticides, genetic modifications, radiation, etc., but the population grows to match it.
-
The house we're in doesn't have air conditioning, and we have a Prius hybrid. And we recycle!
But I'm not a vegetarian, so...

Being energy efficient it not uncomfortable. Of course you could always make it uncomfortable but it doesn't have to be. Your being silly. And remember: This isn't all about you.
Luigison: First off, you get 100 points for having a hybrid and 50 points for recycling. Second, even though using electricity is curently bad for the environment, I think as long as you use it resposibly (i.e. using things when they are on like your computer etc.) it isn't your fault. Same thing with the water. Just support solor power etc. when you can.
P.S. Don't worry about the farmers at the moment.

... Just support solor power...
Well, I use solar energy to produce vitamin D. Does that count? </sarcasm>
BTW, I'm a science teacher and teach a unit on energy in which solar energy makes up several lessons. Don't give me any points for that though.
-
Are you kidding me? That's very important to teach the younger generations about solor energy. 5 points.

Well, there is some effect of Global Warming, as so far this year has been the hottest in US since record keeping began, according to http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2192795 (http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2192795). My house has 5 window ACs, though we don't use them for much more than fans. Not to save the planet, but to save some cash. Oh well, I guess it works out right in the end...in a way.
-
My house has air conditioning, but we never use it. We just have a lot of fans blowing, and windows open. Fresh air is nice.

I must admit now, the world may be in peril, and it will end soon, but it would end eventually anyway.
As for me, I recycle, and I like the idea of solar energy. It is a lot healthier, and reduces smog, and smog is one of the reasons I hate the city. Also, I think that while people waste energy created by something harmful, an unused energy source is shooting down ridiculous amounts of power, only to hit the groung and never be used for good. Solar power is a great idea. C'mon, even nature says so! Look at plants! they're solar powered.
However, my house is at 75 and my mom drives a normal car. I can't really help these things. I don't litter though.
Maybe doing things like this will buy the world some time.

Uhhhhh.........no.I don't feel like baking in the Texas 100 degree weather INSIDE!!
Also, some people worry too much. Global Warming will not destroy the world.Don't you people have faith that nothing bad will happen?
-
Uhhhhh.........no.I don't feel like baking in the Texas 100 degree weather INSIDE!!
Come on now. 78 is not that bad! Use fans and other cooling methods and you should be fine.

It was 80 in my house today because my mother wouldn't turn it down, and I hated it. Anyway, I saved a rabbit today from getting killed by my neighbor. Do I get points for that?
