I have now opened GlorbWare, inc. So far, my first game is an interactive fiction game that I'm entering in the Interactive Fiction Competition (www.ifcomp.org). I won't spoil anything, but it involves a race against time and a crayon.
GlorbWare will also produce many other types of games, like:
Red Baron 2092, a flight simulator/shooter with a zombie Red Baron
Blue Alert, a second-person shooter (the view of the guy getting shot)
Ninjas vs. Pirates, a beat-'em-up set in historical time periods
So this topic serves two purposes: 1) to announce my new game(s?) and 2) to ask for a little help. If anyone here is able to design a cool logo and a catchy slogan (not 100% neccesary), then that would be vey appreciated. As equally appreciated would be beta testers and the like.
Until then,
Glorb

theres nothing there.
-
What does that mean?
-
Red Baron 2092 and particularly Blue Alert are cool ideas. You realize that to be second-person, the player will still have to control the shooter, right?
I'll try to think up a catchy slogan and could beta test as well.
P.S. IFComp rocks.

Well, for Blue Alert, here is my idea:
You initially play as the hero/heroine for the first minute (you can customize him/her with clothes and weapons). Then, as soon as he/she engages an enemy, you switch over to the view of the enemy, trying to kill/be killed by the hero. You have lower health than the hero, but you can call for backup, and the battle is in real time. As soon as the hero has been wounded, he/she runs off and engages another group of enemies. As soon as the hero has been defeated, your squad moves up in rank and you defend the next floor, until you eventually play as the boss. So it's like a psuedo-squad tactics game where you create the boss.
As for Red Baron 2092 and Ninjas vs. Pirates...
RB2092 is an aerial shooter set in a hypothetical WWIII, where the Red Baron has been resurrected as a cyborg. All the levels are essentially boss battles, with dogfights between you and the Baron.
NVP is a beat-'em-up game where you control eather a Ninja or a Pirate. In Co-Op mode, you play as both characters, with all sorts of Mario and Luigi-style tag-team moves.
I anticipate beginning work on these games possibly in '07, after I see how The Apocalypse Clock (my IF game) does.
-
My question: What will you be using to make these games?
-
Well, for my IF games, I'll be using the Inform programming language (inform-fiction.org). As for the three (so far) graphical games, I'll be using either Flash (if I, through some miracle of science, figure out how to make Flash games) or, more likely, Game Maker or a similar program. I'm trying to make them look as professional as possible, although I suck at making from-scratch sprites. Even more so at thinking of decent logos.
-
For sprites, try using www.charas-project.net and clicking on the generators. It may be for RPG Maker, but some of the sprites that come out look pretty good and could probably be converted into GM. I made a game with them.
-
Well, generally my games are either side-scrollers or top-down shooters, although it is possible I may make an RPG.
-
This will be your logo

Hmmm...uh, trippy? It's pretty good, though I might need a few more submissions from others.

The facesets are multipurpose really, and the Battle Character sets could work for a platformer. There aren't many resources for the Battle Character generator, though, it went down recently.
I also edited a Ditto sprite, and put GlorbWare on it. Didn't take more than five minutes, so I won't be offended if you don't like it. =D
-
Heh, I actually like it. It's nice and simple; originally, I intended the logo to be this sort of big, military/Metal Slug-style typeface, but yours is way better than my original.
-
Couple of logo submissions:
-
Man, US, you're really pwning my original logo. I'd show it if my computer would let me.
-
Hmm... which file format is it? If it still doesn't upload, I'd try using Imageshack/Photobucket.
-
That's the thing; whenever I try uploading a file from anywhere to an image-hosting site, it just won't let me. But how do I attach an aimage directly to the forums, if I can?
-
One thing: No .BMPs. I used to think "dang, why not?" before I discovered the fabulous world of .PNGs.
-
Oh, heh. Boy, is my face red. Thank you. I decided to add some last-minute airbrushing to make my logo look, you know, passable.
-
Slogans... Slogans...
Get to Glorbing!
If it's not Glorb, it's not GlorbWare.
The Glorbiest!
It's more than a way of life. It's a way of Glorb.
Get your Glorb on.
Yeah, they're pretty bad... they sound better than they look. Check it out:
Edit: Hey, why don't you go ahead and make Exploding Barrels? It'd be great!!
-
Exelarate your Glorb!
got glorb?
GlorbWare is glorbtastic!

Maybe that font with the Glorb-y substance filled in? What was the name of the font (if you didn't design it from scratch)
-
It's from almost-scratch - I took some letters from the Metal Slug logo (the big W is the biggest culprit), modified some for letters that don't exist in that logo, then put it on a black background and did some airbrushing in an old fake-Photoshop program (not as good, but it got the job done).
I think maybe I'd use the green logos for the more casual or comedic games (basically the main games), then for the few serious games I'd use the rust/stone one.
And I don't think I'll make a real Exploding Barrels game; most of the humor comes from the fact that the genre of the games is never revealed. Although I might make an homage to them in one of my games.
-
Glorb, I would like you to publish some of my upcoming games!
I have Robo and Pals, a futuristic platformer, Swords In Combat a side-scrolling beat 'em up, and Water Ballons, a Bomberman rip-off.
I'm sure GlorbWare will take care of these games, no?
Anyway, my developement team name is
Omega Factor Software
and our slogan?
The Omega To Your Alpha
ANd because you are pretty good at Paintshop-clones, (Which I am not, check out my ridiculous Robo Logo soon), you could do the box art.
-
I'd love to! I just need to see the games and a little more information on the plot and so forth (so I can do a good logo, box cover, etc.), and I'd be glad to publish them.
-
Okay, sure!
Swords in Combat and Water Balloons are still in development,
but
Robo and Pals are out of the beta stage, and just need a few fine-tuning.
I must warn you, Robo and Pals is my first game made, so it may not be up to your standards of games.
Anyway, its a 3P game, so just read the Help file (press F1 after playing).
Its made by GameMaker by the way.
What software are you using?
-
Ooh, 3-player! I love 3P games!
I'm using mostly Game Maker for the graphical games - there's just one big problem. Somehow, I was never able to get the full version (some problem with my computer), meaning I'm stuck with the demo version. So that means the abilities are crippled, and they have the Game Maker logo on them. But I'm working on it.
In the meantime, I use the Inform programming language for the Interactive Fiction games (you'll need a Z-Code interpreter for it to play) and maybe, just maybe, I might force myself to get Flash and learn how to use it. Maybe.
-
Hey, guess what? The GlorbWare website is open (though under construction)! Play the demo here: glorbware.tripod.com
