http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/09/04/australia.irwin/index.html (http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/09/04/australia.irwin/index.html) Wow, I couldn't believe this at first. Steve Irwin "The Crocodile Hunter" is actually dead. I guess it was bound to happen eventually, what with him working with all these dangerous animals, but in the back of my mind I always asumed that he would actually survive to retirment. Oh well, Rest in peace man, rest in peace.

What?! No! : (
*silence for the legendary Crocodile Hunter*
...........
-
This is, indeed, a sad occurence. I have fond memories of watching Animal Planet day after day just to hear his thick accent and see his dangerous encounters with all manner of deadly animals.
Saddest of all, however, is that he left behind a charished family.
-
For all the overtly dangerous stuff he messed with, he sure got killed by an unlikely animal.
-
Funnily enough, he tried to prove that the animal that killed him wasn't dangerous.
I wasn't fascinated by his antics in the first place, so I do not find this very shocking. :/

I used to watch the show in which he actually NEVER hunted crocodiles. He was a cool dude, all right...

I just can't believe he's dead. I mean, it was bound to happen, but then again, you always think he'd live forever.
It's funny how the thing he loved most in life killed him.

I wwas going to make a topic just like this, but you beat me to it. It really makes me sad. I really loved his work, and I even concidered going into zoology because of people like him.
-
NOOOO!!!!! *sniff*
I was,I still am and always will be one of Steve's biggest fans.I just can't believe this happened.
I simply must be hallucinating.
-
I can't really say 'I didn't see this coming', but I also thought, in the back of my mind, that he'd survive to retirement. :( It's just hard to believe he won't be entertaining us with his his encounters with deadly animals anymore.
-
When I first heard the news, I thought, "Did I misread that headline?" But, sadly, I didn't. I also put my topic on this in the wrong area so I look like a fool, but that's far beside the point. Hopefully, other entertainers like him will learn that you have to be, I dunno, extra careful near any animal.
-
I always watched Animal Planet.I still do and always will. Now that this unfortunate incident has happen to Steve.........WAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!I've been watching Steve on TV for a looong time now this happens.............I'm crushed.*SNIFF*

It's his fault he died, so I really can't feel sorry for him.

It's not exactly his fault that he died. He wasn't harassing or advancing dangerously on the stingray. It just turned around, got spooked, and ...well, you know the rest. I'd say it was more chance than it was his fault. And so what if it is his fault? He wasn't doing it to be cool, he was filming a documentary.
-
Creepily, the documentary was called "Deadly Creatures of the Deep".
I actually heard from somewhere that "if the stingray had hit him anywhere else we wouldn't be talking about a fatality here..."
That's really sad.
-
It wasn't his fault.
-
Of course not. He was a great guy, and I wish that this wouldn't have happened. And he was so young, too...
-

...A stingray killed him.
And he was so young, too...
He was 44, but that's younger than my mom.
What's incredibly strange and ironic about this is that only seventeen deaths from stingrays had been recorded as of 1996. Steve Irwin had been dealing with far more dangerous animals for a long time, and hadn't come to any harm from them. It reminds me of how Lawrence of Arabia died - from a motorcycle accident.
-
Dude, he loved animals. I KNOW a stingray killed him. Please don't treat me like an idiot.

I still believe he should'nt have been doing that in the first place.

So, did he get killed by a shock from the stingray's tail, or did the tail of the stingray actually stab him in the chest? I've heard both stories, so I'm curious to see which one it is.
This whole thing sort of reminds me about how General Patton spent many long years in the war, and just after it was over got killed by a jeep. Not really related, but hey. I have weird trains of thought.

Well, the last few minutes of the recorded documentary apparently shows Irwin pulling out the barb himself. I think he only died shortly afterward.
The barb was in his heart, which of course could've been fatal if left in OR pulled out.

Hmmm. Did the barb break off the stinkray? Is that typical? I remember my grand dad cuting the stinger off one I caught, but I was just a kid and didn't notice much about the barb itself.
Irwin family refuse offer of a state funeral: "CROCODILE Hunter" Steve Irwin would not have wanted a state funeral because he wanted to be remembered as "an ordinary bloke," the television star's father said yesterday.

That was pretty vague still. "The thing he loved most" was animals? It sounded like you thought a crocodile killed him.
-
This week, three people I know have died. What a profilic week forfor deaths... :(.

It's only all over the news. If I didn't know what killed him, I would have asked.
