Which hand is dominant for you? Do you tend to use one hand for certain things, but the other hand for other things? How about your dominant eye or foot or other part of your body--as in, do you tend to use one side over the other?
As for me, I'm left-handed, but I use my right hand for many things that some lefties tend to still use their left. I would say my left hand is more coordinated, but my right hand is stronger.
I use my left hand for writing, drawing, cutting, washing, brushing my teeth, throwing, using untinsels, and most other things that require coordination or skill.
However, I use my right hand for using a mouse; I cannot use a mouse well with my left hand. I've noticed I mark my place with my right hand (rather than left) when reading--you know, dragging your finger down with the line of text one's on? I also tend to use my right hand when I'm multi-tasking, such as using a calculator while writing, drinking while eating or writing, shaving while washing, etc.
Some things I have to do the same way as a right-handed person would, and if I try doing it differently (i.e. using a "left-handed" version, if there even is one), I'm horrible with it--like playing video games, using a camera, playing an instrument, using a mouse, turning pages, etc. (Yeah, most of those things are done with two hands, anyway.)
Other things I do ambidexrously; I use whichever hand is free or closer, whichever is more convenient. Eating, drinking, using a remote/calculator/CD player/other device that involves pushing buttons without "skill", and turning on switches are some examples. Sometimes I do things where I switch hands I use to make the task easier, like painting my nails, brushing/blow drying my hair, or putting on mascara (haha, all girly tasks XD).
Other tendencies:
- I hold the phone with my left hand to my left ear
- When using one eye to look at things, I use my left one
- I hold things in my right hand or my left arm, but usually not the other way around
- I usually carry my purse on my right shoulder, but sometimes I switch
- I can raise my left brow while lowering my right one, but not the other way around
- My right hand is better at cracking its knuckles than my left (when I don't use the help of the other hand)
- I kick with my left foot
- I wink with either eye ;)
I like the way game controllers are designed: directional control with the left hand (free-coordination?), pushing buttons with the right (more strength, controlled-coordination?).
-
Let's see:
Left: Eating, Throwing/catching/hitting, Most other things that require precision (shaving, brushing teeth, etc.),
Right: Writing, Billiards, Racquet sports, Mouse. That's really it. Though I was probably naturally meant to write left-handed, but that got changed by my grandpa and now I can't write with either hand very well at all.
-
Left, with pretty much everything (except the mouse, that's the right hand).
-
Right handed. Come to think of it, how much DO I use my left hand? Just in this general vicinity, I'll do some tests.
There is no difference between drinking this unidentified Kool-Aid when I use either hand. It's hard to use the N64's control stick with my right hand. It's nearly impossible to use my computer's mouse with my left. This sentence was typed only using my left hand, and it took 33 seconds. This sentence was typed only with my righ hand, and it took 28 seconds. This sentence was typed with both hands, and it took 13 seconds. Fascinating!
Anyway, I really wish I were ambidextrous. I never read a rule saying I couldn't be; maybe if I practiced for a really long time, I'd be able to write with my left hand.
-
Looks like "right" has the upper hand in this poll.
-
I'm a righty.
-
Ha ha ha, Deezer.
I'm right-handed. Myup.
I know sometimes people desire to be abmidextrous, but I've heard that naturally and completely lacking a dominant hand is a sign that there's a connection abscent in the brain. And without the hands having more specific roles, it often becomes more difficult for them to work together.
(This is coming from hearing about my friend's friend, who, while equally able in either hand, was helpless at handling a video game controller.)
Mind you, I'd actually ONLY heard the above from my friend, so it may not be accurate.
-
I'm a lefty. Heck, I can't even see with my right eye (please don't ask). The only things I use my right hand for is using scissors and snapping my fingers.
-
I use my right hand to write, but my left hand can curl 45 pound dumbbells, while my right can only curl 40 or so.
-
I'm right-handed, my left hand can hardly do anything besides help me type this post. o_O
It gets on my nerves knowing that my right hand is more capable than my left, because I feel so weak when using my left hand, while my right does the majority of the work. I suppose it's some kind of "un-even feeling" I get.
-
I'm primarily right. I'm right-handed, but my left hand is stronger (at least when it comes to cocking airsoft guns).
-
It is werid. I am a lefty when it comes to writing. However, I bat in baseball right, and I can only throw a baseball right. However, I shoot a basketball equally well with both hands, and I am good at dribbling with my left hand. Also, I am able to throw a frisbee with both hands. I kick primarially with my right, but I can also use my left foot to kick when it comes to kickball. Needless to say, I wear my watch on the right hand, not the left, so as not to interfere with my writing. Also, I eat left-handed, that is, I hold th efork with my left hand. However, when I'm cutting I cut with my left hand as well.
-
Right Handed. I use my right hand to do most of the things I do. I use the right hand to hold the phone (but I use my shoulder more often). I eat with my right. I drink with my right. I pick up things with my right. I eat a burger with both.
-
Spoilarz: This topic reminds me of Gattaca.
-
Ah! Many people have commented on how odd it is that I wear my watch on my right wrist--they say that if I wore it on my left, I could glance at it while using my right for something like writing. But the thing is, I can put it on my right in seconds using my left hand for all but holding it in place... Putting it on my left takes about a minute, with much struggling, centering, and the use of my knee to help hold it. Taking it off of my left wrist is a hassle too.
If I notice anything else my left hand does surprisingly better than my right, I'll report it.

You have here a switch-hitter. I had long done some things better left handed than right (for example, I play piano and my left hand was dominant yet I write with the right hand).
Like most all little leaguers, I was taught how to bat right handed. But one day many years ago I decided I'd try swinging the bat left handed. I went up to plate, nobody was expecting it. The first pitch I saw I smacked into right for a two-run double. A few games later I hit a grand slam left-handed. But I kept at the right handed batting as well and made myself into a switch hitter.
Batting left-handed came easy for me since I'm right-eye dominant and can see the pitch really well there. I also think I have a little more power left handed, but that could be since the right field walls are often shallower than the left field ones in many parks (a left handed hitter generally hits his ball into right field unless he pulls it).
I throw right handed. Then again, who ever heard of a left handed shortstop?
-
I remember being in second grade and seeing a table of right-handed students versus left-handed. It was a large sheet of paper with a line straight down the middle. Paper hands were pasted on either side, and the left side was almost barren.
I'm generally not a fan of the public education system, but in hindsight that was a cool thing to do. The poster didn't assert anything. It neither commanded nor encouraged me to think in a particular manner. It just offered up some simple, interesting information for the mind of a growing child. I guess that's why I remember it.
-
Right handed for the most part, but when it comes to picking up a toy sword, I've taught myself to hold it lefty like Link. Eating I can do either way, but I prefer to eat righty. Holding a glass of fluid: It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm on the computer, I drink lefty cause my right hand is occupied by the mouse. If I'm playing video games, I drink righty cause my left thumb is occupied by the controller's analoge stick.
-
I eat a burger with both.
For some reason that makes me lol. XD
I'm right handed. I write/draw/use a fork/knife/spoon/wipe my mouth/operate the touch controls of the DS/move the mouse with my right hand. My left hand gets jealous of this. Sometimes, my left and right hands have to cooperate, like when I need to open the fridge and get something, or typing(like right now) or playing video games. Whee.

Speaking of handedness, my Psychology teacher says that today's society is right-hand dominant.
-
Right-handed, putting me in the majority. My left hand is worthless except for holding something or using the Control Pad/Stick.
-
Speaking of handedness, my Psychology teacher says that today's society is right-hand dominant.
Well duh. Question is: Why? Did the right handers kill off the lefties? Was/is there some genetic difference that is not passed well? Or are lefties somehow unfit for survival?
-
I dunno, but my bro-in-law, who is left-handed, is kind of training my niece to be a lefty.
-
I am left-everything: writing, drawing, kicking, etc. The only things I do with my right side are using the computer mouse, shaking hands, and using the right side of my brain(which controls the left side of the body).
Homosexuals are more commonly left-handed than right-handed.
Since left-handers are usually right-brain dominant, they are more creative than logical, hence why many actors are left-handed.
About 10% of people are left-handed.

Aww. Does this mean I'm not as creative as I thought I was? My mother says I think like a combination of a left-handed person and a right-handed person, but I use my right hand for everything. She also said she thought I would end up a leftie because I used my left hand a lot when I was little.
-
What hand you use to do something doesn't dictate how creative you are. Rebel against handedness! YEAH!
-
Which side of the brain are you more dominant?
A friend of mine e-Mailed me this link.
http://similarminds.com/left-right-brain-test.html
My results came out equal on both sides, which I believe is pretty accurate.
-
I'm one of the most left-brained people you'll ever meet, probably.
-
Hmmm... It IS strange how right-handed people are more common than left-handed people. I have several left-handed friends, so many that I'm not really certain which are left or right-handed anymore. My bowling team is just us three righties, but there is a team of just lefties. I'm also right-eyed and right-footed. Say... is there such a thing as having a dominant ear? If so I'm probably right-eared too...
-
I am left-handed, but do alot of things with my right hand. I might have been ambidextrous if it weren't for a big bump I have on the side of my right thumb.
-
I've been told I'm left-eyed.
I'm right handed and right footed though.
My right ear opens more than my left ear. I think I can hear better out of it. :\
-
I am right-handed and right-footed. I hold a hockey stick with my right hand at the bottom. I throw right-handed, I wear my watch on my left hand (now; I used to have it on my right), and I use my right hand for holding the stylus on the DS. But, sometimes, I forget which hand I should hold my fork with (left).
My test results are that my right brain scored 51.6% of usage and my left received a score of 48.4%. Seems about right, as most online tests are right (at least the ones I have taken).
-
I'm right-handed and left-faced — can raise my left eyebrow without my right eyebrow, but not the other way around; can only do the Elvis lip curl on the left side; winking seems easier with my left eye.
I have to hand it to Sapph, this was a good thread idea.
-
I can only do the Elvis thing on my left side, but I can raise both eyebrows independently (this took some practice).
most online tests are right
Since when?
-
most online tests are right (at least the ones I have taken).
Hmm, I didn't even think about what side of my face I use. I use my right side the most, usually to raise my eyebrow (can't do it on the left side) and to move my ear. However, I've become coordinated enough to move both ears simultaneously.
-
Right handed girly here!! :D
-
I'm right-handed, but I have a lot of friends who are left-handed.
-

This is probably a stupid question, but 'got any tips?
-
I can't really think of any.
