Cameo appearances and references |
This is the compilation cartridge used in the 1990 Nintendo World Championships. Of the 116 total cartridges released, 90 were given to finalists, and 26 gold-colored carts were given away in a Nintendo Power contest.
Playing under a six-minute time limit, contestants had to collect 50 coins in Super Mario Bros., complete a course in Rad Racer, and pile up the points in Tetris until time ran out. In order for his or her score to count, the player had to play all three games.
This version of Super Mario Bros. was modified slightly:
- Since the competition was set up for one player per cartridge, the title screen has no option to select the number of players. The title screen is displayed for approximately three seconds.
- Mario starts with 99 lives -- the maximum amount this version allows.
- Upon collecting 50 coins, the action stops and the "castle clear" theme plays. After a brief look at your score, the game moves on to Rad Racer.
On the score tally screen, the "rescued Princess Toadstool" theme from Super Mario Bros. plays.
