This also affects people who selected the Default theme as opposed to the ff theme, as since the default theme changes to Curve, it will change it for you automatically.

At least I can see the smileys again.  ;D

General Chat / Re: Albums you think are perfect
« on: June 30, 2011, 02:35:10 AM »
My favorite band is Nirvana and Nevermind has most of their best songs.

So...Nirvana: Nevermind. This album has Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, Polly AND Lithium.

I'm more of an In Utero fan myself, just for the fact that it's a bit more raw, but Nevermind was (and is!) brilliant, if not for In Bloom which has been my ringtone for the last couple of years.

I don't consider any albums I've listened to as perfect; I have albums I like, but as for musically flawless, none come to mind. I have a few that come close, however, and I'd probably go with Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Red Hot Chili Peppers as reasonably close to perfection. I prefer Mother's Milk but BSSM isn't one of the best-selling albums of the 90s for nothing. It's just the way you get the hits like Give It Away, Suck My Kiss and Under the Bridge, complemented by the other tracks like Funky Monks, Sir Psycho Sexy and The Power of Equality, that've pretty much served as the bridge between the funky RHCP of the 80s and the modern alt-rock Chillies that helps define the band in my eyes.

The Colour and the Shape by the Foo Fighters deserves a mention as well, for similar reasons; bridging the humble beginnings of Grohl writing absolutely-bloody-everything into the rock mega-gods they are today. That, and I'm fairly sure I've done permanent damage to my lungs trying to scream that part from Monkey Wrench.

Honestly, I'd be listing more bands of the ilk of Queen and The Beatles here, that've become more my taste, and are probably technically far superior to the other two, but truth be told I haven't often sat down and listened to the albums of those sorts of bands in their entirety. Maybe when I get a chance to, I'll revise my choices here.

Mario Chat / Re: Variable Endings
« on: June 26, 2011, 11:36:28 PM »
There's the endings here for Super Mario Land 3, I'm not sure where the Luigi's Mansion pics would be though. Maybe we could add that sort of thing through the wiki?

And it provides nifty replay value for a lot of the games, like wanting to get all 120 Stars in SM64 to get on the roof. It could be pretty cool for some of the RPGs too. What I would like to see is a final final boss, where basically it gives you the normal final boss, then once you've accomplished everything else in the game, or met certain conditions, it unlocks the real final boss. Sort of like Doomsday Zone in Sonic 3, or Giga Bowser in SSBM. Then defeating that boss gives you the cool ending. :)

The multiplayer is good fun when you can get it going, but what with the lack of half-decent dedicated server support and the nigh-unplayable online play, it's a nightmare to find a good game. When you do, though, it's a hell of a lot of fun that brings back all of my memories of Quake from the misty haze of Call of Duty and its million ******* children. The customization of your own Duke is great fun, and it's fun seeing the hero of the Earth running around in a samurai helmet and a Hawaiian shirt. Outfits have to be unlocked, and you can tell the players that have put the most effort in when the silliest looking Nukems fly past you with a jetpack and blast you to kingdom come with the incredibly overpowered Devastator.

That said, I think Gearbox and Triptych need to put some serious effort into patching up some of the holes, especially in multiplayer, or else the game's not going to last too much longer competitively.

I keep seeing this mentality pop up on the internet, and it cracks me up.  The system is 1+ year away.  No specs have been announced, no launch line-up has been announced, any games that ARE in development are at too early of a stage to show.  But tons of people online are calling the system a failure.  That would be like if I said "Man PlayStation 4 sucks, Sony really blew it there."  Or maybe "I can't believe what a piece of crap X-Box 720 is.  What a flop!"

I'm not calling it a failure? Only that I'm not particularly excited for it, probably only about as much (or less) than the next Sony or Microsoft consoles. I think I'm perfectly justified in not being particularly excited about something that, so far, has failed to really make me want the Wii U.

That said, the news that it won't be restricted in terms of the number of controllers is definitely good. That would have proven a disaster for good ol' Ninty.

As for games since Brawl? The new Fire Emblem entry, whatever it is, looks like a cert to have a representative. It would be nice to have Captain Rainbow, but I doubt it'll happen...

And there goes the last vestiges of my enthusiasm for the Wii-U.

Quick question. Would this or Minecraft be a better buy? I've got more friends who play Minecraft, and I like it for the fact that at any given time you can get the server creator to op you and wreak havoc, but this looks a bit more like the action-y goodness I'm more adjusted to. I'm a bit iffy about the Mana bar on the right hand side. Can anyone give any clarification?

Mario Chat / Re: What sport should Mario try next?

I know this is just a sorry excuse to make it into a shooter but Mario Paintball (with the paintballs being replaced by something a bit more Mario-ish) could be interesting.

I'm not that fussed over the babies, moreso that I'm wondering why the heck E. Gadd didn't have a playable appearance? He'd work perfectly as a character, his karts would be wicked awesome and he adds enough variety to the lineup to hush up the critics. Not to mention he's better than freaking Toadette. Unfortunately, since he hasn't been appearing much lately, it looks as though his time has past...

Interesting point about the classic tracks, though. How exactly would you set them out now that there are six games to choose from and (presumably) sixteen tracks to fit them in? Three each for the 3D titles and two each for SMK and SC, I guess... I just hate seeing Super Circuit shafted when it's arguably one of the best in the series. Ribbon Road and Cheese Land ftw.

Discuss.

But for serious, I don't really mind this. You can get actual insight on (insert what OP is linking to) instead of having to listen to the describe in a nutshell what they read in the link.

True that, it works for some threads that really need no introduction (or whatever) but it shouldn't be used as a substitute for proper discussion.

Great cover, more mind screwy due to the fact that Queen was playing on the radio when I opened the thread.

I liked his TV Theme Medley too, definitely worth a look.

I chose three simply because two and four were too extreme.
