I don't own the NES version, so I'm guessing. . .
Left-Right: Walk or walk up stacks
Down: Speed up falling objects
Up: Escape to the top of a stack or walk up a stack
A: Pick up or drop a whole stack; while holding Down, kick
B: Pick up or drop a single item; while holding Down, kick
Start: Pause
