Author Topic: My Time Trial Attack of Quad E!  (Read 6282 times)

« on: October 03, 2003, 09:36:26 PM »
Just a bit ago, I found myself next door in the neighboring Quad E. In their living room, they had, among other systems, an N64 set up with Mario Kart 64 inside of it. Now, after my years of playing it, I have come to realize, as all good players do, that Time Trial is the only fun mode. I saw there were almost no times on any track so I sat down and set very good times on each track, although I only went through one good run on each track so nothing is über-perfect or anything like my home cartridge is getting close to. (No one was around except one friend of mine who also doesn't live there.) After this, I left the following note:

Dear Residents of Quad E, (or anyone)

No one will beat my Mario Kart 64 track times. If someone somehow does, I will give you $5.00.

Love,

Mario Raceway: 1:19.55 (No shortcut)
Sherbet Land: 1:48.86

Are these two good enough for the 5 bucks?
Actually, just post all 16 of your HOME CARTRIDGE times if you can remember them, so i can compare and see how good I am.

I'm interested in the results, as well.

Please post the events as they unfold.

I've tried something like that before. But the stakes were higher.

This is interesting.
That was a joke.

Yeah, your Mario Raceway would have definitely gotten the five bucks, but I can't remember if my home cartridge was around 1'23" or 1'18" so I'll have to get back to you. And I really have no clue about any other track times; it has been so, so long since the time trial fanaticism days. Mario Raceway is the only one I still have a glimmer on.

I snooped back there late tonight but no one was there and the door was closed.

Better hope David Wonn doesn't see this.

May I ask who the heck David Wonn is? Some sort of Kart Master? My letter was kind of directed toward the people in Quad E...

I have almost no times recorded for T.T. either. The only fun mode in ANY of the Mario Kart games is Battle Mode! Sure hope they don't leave it out of MKDD..............

Uh, you're crazy! If Battle Mode is the only fun mode, than go play some first person shooters; you'll find them more in-depth.

I find I spend the majority of my MK64 time in time trials.
...With all that time trialing, you'd think I'd be better at the tracks.
That was a joke.

Yes, I'm a T.T. player myself. Battle Mode is way too luck oriented... I mean, whoever gets the best items wins - that's all there is to it. And when playing with others, I insist on racing modes, not Battle.

Hmm, all good people are T.T. players, coincidence? Yes, the Mario Kart series's GARGANTUAN flaw is the randomness. *kills randomness*

If you want to see a kart game done without randomness, just look to the best N64 game ever made, Diddy Kong Racing. The effects of taking it out speak for themselves.

As long as you're not killing randumbness, that's fine with me.
