Would 6'02 count as a "notch over 6"? That's my best recorded time. Of course, you'd need to set the parameters for starting and ending the run...

Hi!

Did you do 6.02 with a NES? And when did you start/stop the clock?

Cool!

I've never tried Super Mario Bros. but after hearing about the 11 minute Super Mario Bros. 3 completion, I decided to try it myself. I got just a little over 20 min. from the minute I turned the game of to the time I defeated Bowser.

I assume that these are records for ANY completion of the game, ie, warp zones and whistles are okay to use?  They're still impressive.

How about this: how quickly can you get to and beat level 99 in Mario Brothers?  That'd take quite a lot longer, because you'd be limited by the speed at which the enemies emerge from the pipes.

Start: Right when the screen for 1-1 appeared (Not the lives screen, the play screen)
End: When Bowser HIT the lava in 8-4

I think a better measure of time is:

Start: When you press "1 Player"
End: When you HIT the 8-4 axe.

Meowrik - have you seen it? I've seen it, it's fake.

Hirocon - yes, you can use any in-game shortcuts. About Mario Bros., it would be nice to try.. I'd just like to know of any existing records first.

Insane Steve - Ok, did you use a NES or an emulator? And do you have it taped so you can retime it? And read this:

Lizard Dude - That is in fact EXACTLY how I did it! Good job.

Yes. It is fake. It was made with an emulator, and emulators can be hacked to do things such as low gravity or speed up.

I've seen the video, and it WAS hacked for low gravity and invincibility. From what I can tell, at least.

And the difference in time from the "lives" screen before 1-1 and the time between grabbing the axe and Bowser hitting the lava to me seems about the same. And it was on an actual NES, about 6 months ago, so I have no tape of it... all I remember was that I grabbed NO power ups (Yes, I took the low road in 1-2 and went almost as fast as one would over the top.) and didn't die or stall at all pretty much. I've never been able to replicate it, either. Bah.

Quoting the chat room:
"Yes, we've seen the 11 minute SMB3 video. Yes, it's real, but was done in Famtasia emulator"

Nothing says lovin’ like Chupperson from the oven.
That was a joke.
