I have to leave. I can no longer visit a community that, while great for the most part, is too relaxed with flat out hateful speech. And rather than get worked up, call it out, and have nothing happen, I'll just leave instead. Which is a shame, but maybe I'll visit some time in the future and see if it's any better

Fan Creations / Re: Brain Drippings and Comic pages
« on: April 04, 2012, 12:32:50 AM »
So I got a virus in January, and it wiped a lot of stuff out, including photos, music, and my comic and art stuff.  Needless to say, it sort of burnt me out for a bit.  Instead of Defenders of the Gene, I worked on pin-ups, new methods, and short 3 page pieces from other people's scripts to work on layout and storytelling.  I'm feeling ready to start over on my comic, but wanted to get one more thing done, doing a bit of fan art of two of my favorite games' protagonists.

That's right, LD, Perfect Dark, again.

Faith, from Mirror's Edge, and Joanna from Perfect Dark, done with a digital painting method I found using base colors and then using the eyedropper to sample. I don't have a traditional art background, it was a little slow start, but I was surprised how quickly it made more sense going along.  But now I'm ready to get back to my stuff again.

And as a side note of content, if I could have fit in Batman Beyond and Deckard in there somehow, I would, but they were more Dark setting futuristic, where these two were more stark or well lit. Well, kinda.  A few levels of PD were a pain to see.  But in general...

Depending on where I'm looking with the second one I can force myself to see it always go on the far side from me. Mostly if I watch the hoof, it's harder with the the scarf/hat. First one I can switch how I see it whenever it gets to a side position.

So have we all given up even sorta calling Weegee out for his blatantly sexist remarks?

Oh no, I'm not good at being stuck on a magical desert island where I have time to pack my entertainment! Truly earth shattering revelation here!

What can I say, I really like the game AND the music. And, if I had gone with the other choice, Banjo-Kazooie, I imagine I would be listening to it and want to play it but Whoop! Its not part of my super tiny collection.

Hey, Avarage, that's not bad, all things considered.

Games

  • Perfect Dark (preferably the hd remake, but doesn't bother me much to stick with the N64)
  • Mirror's Edge
  • Fallout 3
  • Mass Effect
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
Perfect Dark because the speed times are crazy and my quickly declining skill at games means I would have a long time 'fore I run out of things to do. Same with Mirrors Edge. Plus, PD has Simulants to fight, and I'd probably give one particular Meat Sim a projected personality to keep me sane(-ish). Fallout and Mass Effect for their crazy replay ability, at least from a How to Make You Character standpoint. And SMB3 because it's just my favorite Mario game, and I wouldn't be able to bring BOTH Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles.

Books

  • The Hobbit
  • Robopocalypse
  • X-Men 183
  • Dracula
  • Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide
Hobbit, already read it once a year, sooooo. Robopocalypse is just a good story, with a great use of the after the end storytelling like in World War Z. X-Men 183 is a great, standalone issue with the bar fight between Colossus and civvie Juggernaut. Colossus is all mopey about lady troubles, goes drinking with the elf and Wolverine, and blows off some steam in this wonderfully crafted bar brawl, drawn magnificently by JRJR. Dracula is a classic gothic horror, and I don't think I need extoll the wonders of the Hitchhiker's series.

Albums

  • Coltrane's "Blue Train"
  • The Blue Van's "Man Up"
  • Weezer's "Pinkerton"
  • it was tough to choose, because I wanted Grant Kirkhope somewhere and I love both, but the Perfect Dark OST eeks in just a touch higher than the Banjo-Kazooie OST
  • Elv1s
Uh, I like these albums. I'm sure I've stated elsewhere around the forums about why these are not shocking or amazing choices.

Movies

  • Die Hard
  • Jurassic Park
  • Ferris Bueler's Day Off
  • The Princess Bride
  • Star Wars
I can watch Die Hard every single day. It's just great. Jurassic park because it has dinosaurs. Ferris Bueler is a great escapist movie, especially with the theory that Ferris and Sloane are in Cameron's head. Actually, all my choices are just about escaping the boring stupid everyday. Hyper masculinity, land of wondrous beasts, being that super cool kid who always wins, the fantasy and adventure of far off lands with giants and swashbuckling, and crazy science Fantasy with clear heroes and dashing rogues. And what else are you going to want trapped on a deserted isle but some escapism?

I too consider myself an artist, and I expect fully to be paid for work I put in. In fact, for most of history that people have been paying for art, it's been done with the money put up before the work is started.  Or died hungry.

1) Capcom puts the DLC on the disc, everyone can see anything online, you don't have to fill your harddrive with the megabytes, thousands of threads like this are made across the Internet
2) Capcom keeps the DLC secret until later, you have to download it all for online compatibility whether you buy it or not, people excitedly post about the "new stuff" coming out

2b. People complain that they can't get it because their Internet is archaic, and it's the game companies fault for not putting their entertainment on the disk.

Wanting some amount of money for the good you provide does not justify piracy, at all. And it appears that what's being offered is being sold to both used and new copies, so it's not like the used ones are getting shafted anyway.

Be upset that they're selling playable characters, which in a fighting game are the whole thing. The fact that it's already on the disk doesn't matter  And everyone's argument loses validity by saying it does matter, except if it turns out what's locked is not something your interested in, then it becomes okay.
