I like how it says "Unbiased opinions from a community of gamers". Isn't that like an oxymoron or something?
When your kids wanna get into videogames, here's what they should play, in order.
Super Mario Bros.: I've called this an industry standard before. Really, it's what a basic platformer looks like when it doesn't screw up or suck at all. Plus the music flows so well with the motions and action of the game, it'll get stuck in your head. Make sure your children play this too.
The Legend of Zelda: hand in hand with Super Mario Bros. should be the Legend of Zelda. The first few times through the game will be long and (hopefully) addicting for those young-uns (shelter them!!! They mustn't know of the other Zeldas yet!!), and it might encourage them to look outside for even more adventure (come to think of it, be sure to educate them on fire safety.)
Super Mario Bros. 3: After giving them a break through Mario via Zelda, SMB3 is a good boost. the maps, extended worlds, and broad stages are assisted by the new powerups.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2-4, doesn't matter which or in what order.
Mega Man 2
Mega Man 3
Mega Man 1 (optional)
A Link to the Past
Super Metroid: Yeah, super. The original really can wait, it doesn't matter as much. Plus, it felt kinda short.Given, SM is really about as long as the original (after all you have a time-related goal...), but it just... the road is much more interesting, and it feels like there's more chapters to this.
Mortal Kombat
Up to Halo, this field is pretty much open after this.
