What happened to all those cheat devices? GameGenie is gone, GameShark is gone.

Are they illegal now?

Video Game Chat / Re: Why Melee Is Better Than Brawl
« on: October 31, 2008, 10:23:28 AM »
I bought a used copy of Smash Bros. Melee at GameStop last week and the game worked perfectly, until I tried the Event Mode. For some reason, the game won't load correctly when I select a certain Event Match. I tried cleaning the disc with a soft cloth and cleaning solution, but it didn't help. Is there anything that will remove scratches? Do any stores do disc repair?

I'm so ****ed at GameStop. They sell shoddy used games, most of their GameCube discs are scratched.

Best box art ever. It really takes me back to the days when a game's box art had absolutely nothing to do with the game it contained. Wow, Capcom really went all out on this one.

I still have to wonder, why is the game on Xbox 360 and PS3? It's essentially a new NES game (with non of those fancy HD super-realistic graphics you PS3 and Xbox gamers love so much), so it should be exclusive to the Wii.

And yes, they should do more "classic-style" games. Sonic 4, Super Mario Bros. 5, Metroid, anything!

Mario Chat / Re: Favorite Course in Super Mario 64
« on: August 21, 2008, 10:15:18 AM »
Hmm... For my favorite courses, I would have to say:
- Bob-Omb Battlefield (Bob-Ombs are cool, and riding around on the Koopa shell is so fun)
- Tiny Huge Island (you go from giant to tiny just by jumping into pipes)
- Tick Tock Clock (changing the tempo of the moving parts is so fun), and all of the Bowser courses

For my least favorites I choose:
- Dire Dire Docks (trying to swim into the Manta Ray's rings while the whirlpool is pulling you in is so difficult, as is trying to open the chests in the same area)
- Lethal Lava Land (falling into the lava while trying to fight the Big Bully is really frusterating)
- Tall Tall Mountain (really boring course with nothing to do except climb)

Mario Chat / Mario voices
« on: July 02, 2008, 04:01:44 PM »
Can anyone here do Mario voices? I can do a pretty good Mario, Luigi, Wario, and my own version of Bowser (it's a cross between Harvey Atkin's Koopa and the modern games).

Mario Chat / If Mario wasn't a plumber...
« on: July 02, 2008, 04:00:23 PM »
If Mario wasn't a plumber, do you think the Mushroom Kingdom would still be filled with pipes?

What if Mario was still a carpenter like in his Wrecking Crew days? Would the Mushroom Kingdom be filled with... cranes?

Video Game Chat / Re: Which games should I buy?

Thanks. It seems Nintendo has a lot more "pick up and play" titles for the DS. The reason I bought a PSP was to experience console-style games on a handheld, but handhelds aren't meant for that. That is why I want a DS now.

Does the DS have any EA Sports games? Games like NBA Live or Tiger Woods?

Mario Chat / Re: BEST AND WORST IN SERIES? Week 18: Ghost Levels
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:56:31 PM »
Mario Galaxy didn't really have any "ghost levels". Whenever I think of ghost levels, I think of levels set inside a ghost house with multiple paths and exits. Mario Galaxy had none of that. The ghost house it did have was just as linear as the rest of the levels.

Mario Chat / Re: Super Paper Mario Max Stats (May contain spoilers)
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:54:43 PM »
Paper Mario has a binding limit on all stats: 50 HP, 50 FP, and 30 BP (not including effects of HP Plus and FP Plus badges). There has to be a limit to TTYD's stats, but I've never hit any of them before. Super Mario RPG stops you leveling up at level 30.

I have gotten 50 HP and FP in Paper Mario (N64), but I always wondered if you could go any higher. Thanks for the answer.

And SMRPG has much better boss fights than Paper Mario. The bosses actually have more HP than the ones in Paper Mario (which is more of a beginners RPG).

Mario Chat / Re: Wario Land Shake?!
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:52:14 PM »
And rightfully so (the games get made there, after all, and they have less of a stereotype as being violent/angry videogame-obsessed).

And that is the reason why I am sick of all these "ultra violent" gore-filled games that American/European developers are so obsessed about (I'm talking about Gears of War specifically, although God of War is amazing because of its epic story and developed characters). I am also sick of the plethora of WW2 FPS games that are released every year. How many times do we need to kill Nazis before it gets boring?

Back on topic:

Is Wario Land Shake a direct sequel to the Game Boy Wario Land games (the ones with Captain Syrup)? Or is it a spin-off title similar to Wario Land 4?

As far as castle/fortress music goes... SMB1 had some pretty eerie castle music. SMW has the best castle music that I've heard. SMRPG had a great remix of SMB3's Bowser battle music in Bowser's Keep.

Does SM64 "Road to Bowser" music count? I know it's technically not in a castle, but it is considered a boss level.

Worst...eh, I'm going to go with SM64, because I got sick of hearing the castle music really quickly - you hear at least the beginning of it every time you finish a star.

The castle music in SM64 is not considered canon since Peach's Castle is not a level with a boss at the end.

How did you do max stats? Can you do that in the original Paper Mario (for N64)? Can you do max stats in Super Mario RPG?

Video Game Chat / Which games should I buy?
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:29:41 PM »
I've had my PSP for about 2 weeks now. At first I was really enjoying it, but when I walked into GameStop to check out the game selection, I realized it is severely limited compared to the DS. Also, most PSP games are simply dumbed-down PS2 ports.

So now I have decided to trade in my PSP for a new DS Lite.

I already have an idea of the games I want:
New SMB
Super Mario 64 DS
Metroid Prime Hunters
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Mario Kart DS
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

A few GBA games, including:
All the Super Mario Advance games
Metroid Fusion
Metroid Zero Mission
Zelda: A Link to the Past

Any other suggesstions?

Looks too classic to be real (aside from the Mega Man sprite which looks like X). But we'll see, I guess.

How can you  say it's fake? It was confirmed in Nintendo Power.

And Capcom deliberately gave it NES-style graphics to keep it continuous with the rest of the games.
