Video Game Chat / E3 2011 Predictions / Wishlists
« on: June 02, 2011, 05:53:46 PM »
Let's all get our hopes up!

I'm expecting Pikmin 3 and maybe F-Zero as Cafe launch titles (big enough to satisfy hardcore Nintendo fans, but still not Mario or Zelda enough to overshadow third parties, and both would be great graphical showcases for a brand new 1080p system), and a Four Swords game at some point, announced as part of the Zelda 25th anniversary segment of the conference. And they'll probably have a Smash 4 teaser, though I think there's at least a 50% chance it won't be by Sakurai.

Unlawful police entry is still unlawful, but you don't have a right to resist it.

Isn't that kinda like saying it's illegal to steal, but you don't have a right to not be stolen from?

Quote
Overturning a common law dating back to the English Magna Carta of 1215, the Indiana Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Hoosiers have no right to resist unlawful police entry into their homes.

In a 3-2 decision, Justice Steven David writing for the court said if a police officer wants to enter a home for any reason or no reason at all, a homeowner cannot do anything to block the officer's entry.

"We believe ... a right to resist an unlawful police entry into a home is against public policy and is incompatible with modern Fourth Amendment jurisprudence," David said. "We also find that allowing resistance unnecessarily escalates the level of violence and therefore the risk of injuries to all parties involved without preventing the arrest."

So yeah.

Mario Chat / Are Mario and Peach actually in a relationship?
« on: April 27, 2011, 08:22:54 PM »
From a French interview with Miyamoto:

Quote
Mouloud : How do you explain Mario never succeeds getting a girlfrield ? It looks like premonitory, I feel like I'm Mario sometimes, it never works, he is always so much close to get it but…

Shigeru : (laughs) About this, I think this is common to Mario, you and me (laughs again)

Mouloud : we don't get girls ! (laughs too)

Shigeru : If Mario married with the princess, this would be the end of his adventures.
I love this translator so much, by the way.

The way Miyamoto answered that question seems to imply that they're not even dating. However, it's worth noting that Miyamoto himself is married with two kids, so the "this is common to Mario, you and me ... we don't get girls" part is suspect.

Mario Chat / Did Dennis Hopper actually say "Bob-omb"?
« on: April 24, 2011, 12:34:19 PM »
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dc1XVTfJVW0

Koopa's lips are off-screen when he says "Bob-omb." Watching the clip closely, though, his lips don't seem to move in the split-second before they go offscreen.

When that shot was originally shot, did Dennis Hopper actually say anything, or was it just a silent reaction shot that later had "Bob-omb" dubbed over it?

General Chat / Princeton study claims Comic Sans is better for learning
« on: January 15, 2011, 10:15:09 PM »
This irks me greatly.

Apparently, Comic Sans is a better font for learning because it's (supposedly) harder to read -- thus requiring you to be more engaged in the reading.

Tiebreaker voting and Poster of the Decade voting is now underway! See the linked posts below for more information.

Tiebreaker; voting ends February 22nd
Poster of the Decade; voting ends March 1st

Please keep tiebreaker votes and Poster of The Decade votes in separate posts.

It's that time of year again! And also that time of decade again for the first time! Time for awards! Yay awards! With special tenthiversary edition awards!

There are rules! These are them!
 • Don't vote for yourself. Vote for me instead.
 • Unless there's any major objections, we're doing it like last year -- you can vote for two people in each category, either as a tie (Deezer/Sapphira) or as a winner and runner-up (1. Deezer 2. Sapphira).
 • You can change your vote by editing your post as many times as you want until voting closes.
 • You may abstain from any categories you want. If a category doesn't get enough interest, it might not get awarded.
 • Feel free to add in your own category ideas and see if they catch on.
 • Votes should be for stuff that happened in 2010, or after December 12, 2009 (when the last awards started).
 • Voting will close at 12:01 AM (Eastern) on February 8th, 2011.

The White Mushroom House / GBA conductive pads
« on: December 04, 2010, 09:59:24 PM »
So my original GBA has been broken for like seven years now. Too much Sonic Advance 2 and one day the D-pad just couldn't go right anymore.

So a few days ago I finally got around to shelling out 99¢ for a tri-wing screwdriver. And I just now opened up my GBA to look around inside of it, probably because I've been watching a lot of House lately.

The conductive pad under the D-pad is torn on the right button thing, losing its resiliency. I want to get a new one and put it in and make it work just like new. But I can't find any on eBay -- only PSP, DS, and Xbox ones -- and any searches beyond eBay end up on fake linkfarm sites at best. So before I went through the hassle of signing up on the Ben Heck forums and waiting three months for a reply over there, I thought I'd ask around here. Anyone know where you can get those things?
