General Chat / Re: Wacko dreams
« on: June 24, 2008, 02:41:27 PM »
Well, I actually remember a ton of my dreams - possibly all of them (although I don't remember dreaming every night). Over the years I've had dreams with all sorts of crazy events and creatures in them. Here's a few:

- There was a dream where somehow the crew from the Black Pearl was looking for the treasure from Treasure Island (I followed with them). The quest started in a visitors center in some town, but when I found a minature model of the island, I fell through the floor into a giant cold room that looked like an icy cave. After crossing shaking pillars of ice, I entered a room that had platforms floating in a pool of cool water. I crossed over them and went into the next room, where I found an exact copy of the previous room - only with boiling water instead of cool water. Next room I went into - same thing, except that the boiling water was now lava. That's all I can remember from that dream

- Another dream: I was browsing the internet and went to the Smash Dojo (this was before Brawl came out). The update of the day was that Captain Falcon had been demoted to a boss and had been crossed with Vieutiful Joe. I remember being really angry right in my dream.

- Yet another dream: I'm going through a carnival and I got something to eat. Suddenly I'm going up to an abandoned mill with a water wheel, where I'm looking for Jack the Ripper. I go inside with a professor and find a room with a bookshelf on one wall. The professor calls out for me to stop, but I pull the bookshelf down (some suspensful music plays quickly), and inside is Jack the Ripper's diary. The professor is overjoyed, but while he is reading it, Jack the Ripper himself comes from the other room. I show out that "it's him, its..," but as soon as the professor turns around, Jack turns into the professor's assistant.

:P

In before "WE HAVE A THREAD LIKE THIS ALREADY HERE IT IS."

Well, I didn't see a topic like this in the first four pages of this forum, and that goes all the way back to April. ;)

Video Game Chat / Re: Why does everyone prefer stock?
« on: June 23, 2008, 05:19:35 PM »
I dunno, because personally I've always found stock to be too long and drawn out. I actually think that stock emphasises hiding and running away a lot more than Time, which makes matches with more than a couple stock take too long. That's why I always play Time Matches.

Still, that doesn't mean I stall. I always am fighting to the last second, even if it is potentially dangerous for my lead (if I have one, that is. I don't always do...). I think that using a ton of defense and making the battle long and drawn out ruins the frentic action Smash Bros is supposed to consist of. I'm sure at least a few people here agree. ;)

Video Game Chat / What characters do you use the most in Smash Bros?
« on: June 23, 2008, 05:13:00 PM »
Note: I'm talking about in all three games, not just the current one. ;)

Anyway, in both the original and Melee, I use Captain Falcon, although I did use Samus when I first started playing the original Smash Bros. Nowadays I use Donkey Kong in Brawl, because sadly Captain Falcon is not nearly as good in the latest edition, and I needed someone who had a lot of power and decent speed.

Not at the Dinner Table / Re: Abortion

It's always possible for people to commit less than first degree, aggravated, even accidental murder, goodie. If abortion can be considered murder, then you are condemning a large sum of women (and probably men).

I might agree with the first part, but abortion is totally different. While murder can sometimes be accidental or provoked, abortion is a choice that is made, and usually made because the girl doesn't want to take responsibility for her baby and just wants to eliminate it. I honestly don't see why that's in any way equal to accidental murder.

am, indeed, pro-life. What we do to our own children is more disturbing than the Armenian genocide, and even worse than what the Nazis did to the Jews / the Japanese did to the Americans in World War II.

That pretty sums up my opinion as well. Okay, so I'm a Christian, but my opinion is not just about my religion. It's mainly about the fact that when you use an abortion, you're killing an innocent baby that is defensless against the abortioner and the mother.

What disturbs me even more is that abortion is now the way female teens and young adults get out of being responsible for poor choices like having sex on a whim and doing it casualy with every guy they see. If people would just stop viewing sex as just a simple leisure activity, and view it with the respect and cautiousness it deserves, then none of this would be a problem.

Also, many don't realize that Abortion is an industry, and that groups like Planned Parenthood opperate as buisnesses. These so called "woman's rights activists" actively try to make abortion as open and easily acessable as possible, for the sole reason that the more abortions that happen, the more money they get. This is absolutely disgusting, and groups like this should be prosecuted for making a profit off of killing human life.

This is not just about choice and freedom - this is about not taking responsibility for anything you do in life.

Yes, more Donkey Kong characters! It's also good that there's going to be items this time around - should liven up the play more.

HOWEVER, I seem to remember hearing that there will be no online play. Is this true? Because that would really stink, considering that they know how to do online play fine. :(

Best - Paper Mario, since each fortress had a different track, and because all of them were awesome and fit the setting.

Worst - SMB3, only because of the total lack of variety, Only one track for ALL the fortresses AND the castles? Bull!

I'm really getting sick of all the shovelware that low-key "developers" keep throwing onto the Wii. I wish Nintendo would just refuse that crap - it belongs only in the recycling plant, where they can make something more useful out of it.

Mario Chat / Re: How good are you in Mario Kart Wii?
« on: June 18, 2008, 04:41:15 PM »
Well, I don't actually own the game (wasn't high priority, unlike Brawl and Galaxy), but I have played it a fair amount, both with friends' copies and at local stores. I'm okay with the wii remote/steering wheel, but I'm much better with a Gamecube Controler.

Honestly, the items don't really bother me that much. Sure, lighning bolts and blue shells are a bit too common, but the balance is a bit better. I actually like that you don't get powerful items when in first place - I never liked that it was actually possible to get lightning bolts and stars once in a while when you were in first or second (Mario Kart 64 allowed this I think). Plus, even the less powerful items are still decent - computers almost always hit the banana peels that I throw back. :)

The main thing that bothers me is what I've heard about 150cc. Back in previous mario karts, only one CP cheated - the second place bully - and he cheated by speeding up. Now, all the players are cheating by getting too many powerful items at the same time and slowing you down. That sounds far worse. :X

Mario Chat / Re: Wario Land Shake?!
« on: June 18, 2008, 04:33:59 PM »
News guys - it is indeed Captain Syrup. Here's some info from the Mario Wiki page on Wario Land Shake:

Quote
Within an Ancient Globe (an old, giant globe exhibited at a museum), there is another world called Yuretopia (translator: “yure” = tremor/shaking). Yuretopia’s peace is shattered by the marauding pirate Shay King. Queen Melfull and her Melfull subjects are imprisoned. Not only that, Shay King claims the legendary treasure “Deldel Purse,” which spits out coins whenever it is shaken. Captain Maple Syrup, the female pirate, observes Yuretopia’s crisis from the outside world. Setting her eyes on the legendary treasure but with no desire of doing the dirty work herself, she steals the Ancient Globe and sends it to Wario. True to form, Wario prepares to raid the beleaguered kingdom when Queen Melfull escapes to the outside world in hopes of finding help. Beseeched by the Queen to become a hero to the kingdom, Wario sets off to Yuretopia where the promise of vast treasures beckons

Wario Land Shake[1][2] (or Wario Land: The Shake Dimension)[3] is an upcoming game for the Wii video game console. As of now, hardly anything is known about the game, except that it is a Platformer game, like the previous Wario Land games. The game also features the return of Captain Syrup, although her role is currently unknown. It is also known that the game will have twenty levels and animations drawn by hand and that the Wii Remote will be used to make special movements (such as shaking enemies to get coins, find secret places, and more)[4]. It is the first game in the Wario Land series to be released since Wario Land 4 in 2001.

This looks very promising - definitely better than Wario: Master of Dissapointment. Handrawn graphics? That sounds pretty rad, actually. :)

Hello, Zarkanthesmasher.  Hopefully we'll have you converted to a hardcore gamer in no time

Hopefully NOT, if your definition of "hardcore gamer" is the same definition that sites like Gamespot use, where a hardcore gamer is one that spends all his time playing first person shooters that are all the same. :X

Video Game Chat / Re: Emulators vs. Consoles
« on: June 15, 2008, 11:07:50 AM »
Well, firstly, I refuse to play roms of games from any current game systems, whatever the case. The only way I ever play gamecube or wii games is on the actual system (besides, there's no real way to play games from those systems on your computer yet, but if there was, I wouldn't do it.)

Now, on the other hand, I see nothing wrong with playing games that are not readily available. A couple years ago, I constantly played Smash Bros and Mario Kart for the N64 on an emulator because buying a real system would be much harder (yard sales, ebay auctions, and all second hand ways were the only way to go, none of which are very reliable). Now days, with the Virtual Console, actual versions of many games are available for download from Nintendo, so I don't play emulators actively anymore, unless its a game thats not on the Virtual Console yet.

Basically, I'm against just playing games on an emulator if you don't want to pay a few bucks to Nintendo and play them on the Wii. Other cases are fine with me, though.
