Mario Chat / Re: Is Super Mario RPG overrated?

Attacks that target multiple enemies are included in both games. Whether it's an earthquake or not is irrelevant.
If you didn't bother to learn the timing of defense timed hits, that isn't the game's fault.
If you don't like the writing in SMRPG as much as PM, that's a matter of taste and not something that makes one game better than the other.
I think I've said this before, but I'm of the opinion that it's much more pleasing to do triple-digit damage than to single-digit.
Missing "randomly" in battle is based on accuracy/evade stats. It makes sense to build in a bit of this since the game isn't occurring in realtime.

Sheesh Chupperson, you don't have to get so defensive. I'm only criticizing a game that you just happen to love - it's not like I'm assaulting a close relative of yours or something. >_>

Platformers - NSMB2 would be nice (give it some kind of flight powerup).

If they make it, NSMB2 should be based on SMB3. They should just take out the shell powerup and bring back all the suits from the third mario brothers game. They could even add a couple new ones - I'd like to see an ice suit (not ice flower) and a wind suit. It should also have the eight classic themes, as well as the airships, tanks, and fortresses. Oh, and they should bring back the koopalings. If all the airships had Bowser Jr. in them, I'd scream in anger. >_<

Paper Mario's plot is so uneventful. No plot twists, no shockers, nothing. Basic.

It's true that the actual plot isn't that exciting, but the characters are a lot more interesting and funny, in my opinion. I'd take characters like Tubba Blubba, Kolorardo, General Guy, Kammy Koopa, Bow, and others over a lot of the SMRPG lot - which includes a lot of boring characters like Mack, Punchinelo, and the highly overrated Geno.

Another gripe - I don't like that defense action  commands are basically pointless in SMRPG. You can get through basically the whole game without even using them at all - which is inevitable, considering that they're very hard to pull off. Paper Mario has a much greater emphasis on defense action commands, because minimizing damage with them can really make a difference in the game.

Mario Chat / Re: Why is wall jumping/kicking so satisfying?
« on: July 29, 2008, 09:09:58 AM »
I think that the main reason it's so satisfying is that it's far more impossible than most of Mario's basic moves. You can jump in real life, you can butt stomp stuff (abeit with pain), and you can even backflip. But it's not really possible to jump off paralell walls and get to higher places. :P

That does happen, actually.  It happened recently to the RIAA.

Oh sure, it happens ocassionally - but there's still too many stupid lawsuits that are getting through and scoring big for the clients. >_>

Gah, stop it! These images are killing our brain cells! x_x

Oh, and personally, since Birdo and Yoshi are so similar, I don't see why they couldn't love each other and even mate. It's like a dog and a wolf producing offspring - which isn't weird at all.

However, we still haven't solved the issue of what gender Birdo is, which makes the matter of species unimportant. I wonder if Birdo's creators even knew whether it was a he or she....

Sadly, It all boils down to the fact that some people care only about money - not actually making things that will be benificial or enjoyable to other people.

IMO, people who make frivilous lawsuits should be prosecuted or reprimanded themselves for wasting people's time. That would make things a lot better - although it will probably never happen. >_>

Just goes to show how America's justice system is more broken than Super Sonic in Brawl. >_<

What is this? Are they trying to make Sonic the new variety king? Sonic + King Arthur = GONE WAY TOO FAR. >_<

Indeed. True, there might be one or two people that aren't mature enough for this  (which is a problem hardly exclusive to TMK), but for the most part I think that the people here are very respectful.

Ah man, that's too bad about Zack and Wiki. That game deserved to go far, and a sequel would have been great. :(

This is pure awesome. I'm shocked that Nintendo actually is doing this - and pleasantly supprised. :D

More companies should do this, actually. Maybe a Genesis-style Sonic 4 or an NES style Super Mario Bros 4.

Or maybe a new Zelda or Metroid game in the classic style. There's a ton of possibilities that could be used if this new Megaman does well enough to warrant more new games made like this. :)

Video Game Chat / Re: Sonic Xtreme - A true video game tragedy?

I've watched a couple movies, and Sonic runs rather... slow, doesn't he? Also, the control seems a little touchy. Sonic accelerates like he's on fire or something, and the Sega Saturn's D-pad wouldn't help matters (an analouge controller was bundled with Nights, but I don't think it ever became the default controller). Still, there were some clever mechanics under the hood, and that fish-eye camera looks awesome.

Well, true - but remember that Sonic Xtreme was only about 60 percent done when it was canceled. If they had been given more time to tweak the engine, add more enemies, and finish the boss levels, I think it could have been a really awesome game. I think it certainly would have been FAR better than a lot of the modern 3-D sonic crap we've gotten in the last 10 years.

If it isn't a rehash, it's shovelware, amirite??????

That depends on what your definition of a rehash is. Honestly, the DS fares a lot better than the GBA ever did, IMO. Take the Mario series, for example. The GBA was stuck solely with ports of old games and spin-offs. Now look at the DS: not a single direct port of any mario game - all the main titles either are either totally original or are remakes of old titles, not just ports. NSMB and Super Princess Peach are totally original. Yoshi's Island DS is all original levels and has new game features. Even Super Mario 64 DS has 30 new stars, new playable characters, and a totally different control scheme - to name a few changes. The Gameboy Advance could only dream of stuff like this.
