Mario Chat / Re: Super Smash Bors. 2 - THE character list

The best thing about seeing Dixie and K. Rool in the gallery is that we know Nintendo is at least having some RARE characters make an appearance.  This could mean we could see a playable Diddy in the game.  No one's seen any of the "pure Rare" crew yet (Nintendo partly owns the DKC franchise, remember), but there's still a chance we could at least see cameos by Banjo, Joanna, Conkey, Fulgore, et al.

Jeez, dude... This is NOT that difficult.  Sheik is a disguise!  Maybe Zelda had the suit fitted to make her look more manly.  Maybe she wears contacts.  Maybe she uses some type of magic spell.  It's really not that great of a stretch.

Also, the rumors of Sega's involvement in the new Smash Bros. are merely that: rumors.  At this point, anyone who says that for sure have confirmation of Sonic in the new game is lying.

Did you play Zelda: Ocarina of Time?  I guess not....

If you did, you'd know it's pretty obvious that before Link enters the final castle, Sheif unmasks "himself" to reveal the lovely face of Princess Zelda.  After Link went into suspended animation, Zelda was taken away by Impa, who taught her the secrets of the Sheikah people.  Zelda, as "Sheik" was Hyrule's heroic force in Link's absence.

I kinda doubt we will see Dino Riki... The game was made by Hudson Soft, not Nintendo.  Since there are so many beloved characters made by Nintendo (Pit, for example) it seems unlikely to me that Nintendo would pay Hudson Soft to use one of their characters.

...Then again, if they did, we might see other cool characters like Bomberman and Master Higgins from the Adventure Island series... Now THAT would be cool, no?

Okay, here's mine, judging from the recent news that there will be 24 playable characters in Smash Melee:

Characters we KNOW will be in there:
1) Mario
2) Link
3) Samus
4) Donkey Kong
5) Pikachu
6) Kirby
7) Fox
8) Yoshi
9) Captain Falcon (Doomba, Falcon is a downright respectable character who wholly deserves a place in the Smash Bros. universe)
10) Ness (YAY!)
11) Peach (YAY!)
12) Sheik/Zelda
13) Bowser (YAY!)
14) Popo, the blue Ice Climber

This leaves ten slots.  The intro trailer shows several characters, mostly rivals of the initial eight characters, and I am guessing they will show up as well.

15) Samurai Goroh (Falcon's rival from F-Zero)
16) Wolf O'Donnel (Fox's rival)
17) Ridley (Pterodactyl-looking beast from Metroid)
18) Nana (Not a rival, but Popo's pink-suited ladyfriend from Ice Climbers)
19) Ganondorf Dragmire (We see his arm along with Link and Zelda's... Likely that he of all people would show up, no?

Now that's all I have any evidence for... The following are just ones I would most like to see in the game

20) Wario (They HAVE to put him in... If Bowser and Peach are rivals, then Mario needs someone to spar with!)
21) Luigi (Leaving him out would be a travesty)
22) Pit (from Kid Icarus)
23) Little Mac (from Punch-Out!!)
24) Birdo (Would be a good rival for Yoshi)

and miscellaneous: Banjo? Joanna Dark? Diddy? Conker?  I wish Nintendo was allowed to use Rare characters... We can bet on seeing another Pokemon, but since I don't follow the series, I can't really wager a bet on which one.  People have been throwing Mewtwo around a bit, and I have heard a few votes for someone named Chikorita.  Who knows, they might even bring back Jigglypuff.

Mario Chat / Re: Pauline?
« on: May 27, 2001, 01:41:10 PM »
I think it would be awesome to have Pauline show up.  I mean, sure she can't do much besides get kidnapped, but that's pretty much all Peach could do, and now look at her! Mario Kartt, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Mario Party, and now the new Smash Bros!  And now Daisy is getting in on the action, and she's just some Gameboy knockoff of Peach.  Since Pauline was THE original damsel-in-distress, i think we should have her pop up in the next Mario sports game or Mario Party or something.  The series needs some more ladies, and I think everybody would like to see how a competition between Peach and Pauline would go...

I did a bit of research regarding those Ice Climbers.  If you go here:

http://www.world-of-video-games.com/nes/manuals/ice_climber.shtml

You'll find that the names of the climbers are Popo and Nana (Popo's the boy, Nana's the girl).  Now we know.

Yeah... It would be cool to select whether or not you can fight as Sheik or Princess Zelda.  The same would be cool for Samus?  Remember how cool she looked with the Justin Bailey code back in the NES days?

And speaking of hot... Penguinwizard... Peach? UGLY?!  No way, man.  Did you see her in promo at IGN.Com?  She's a hottie!

Boy, this is off-topic.... but here I go anyway.  It was my topic to begin with, so THERE!

Regarding Zelda and Sheik in the new Smash Brothers, it seems that BOTH are playable.  If you saw the movie at IGN.Com which introduces all the characters, you would not Sheik's presence.  She duels with Link on top of Hyrule Castle and you see this cool pose of the two standing back-to-back.  If you go to Nintendo.Com, however, and see the big picture of all the Smash Bros. characters, you can plainly see Zelda all girlied-up in her princess dress.  I wonder if that means we will be able to pick between Zelda and Sheik...

I guess if Baby Mario and Mario can exist in the same time continuum...

It would seem so...  IGN.Com also reported that in addition to the old items, new items would show up.  The examples they gave were an Umbrella (probably Peach's from SMRPG) and a Super Scope Six.  You know, the light gun from the old SNES days.  Coolness.

Thanks Maniac.  Someone got the point!

Anyway, I just wanted to say it before someone else does...  I know that Wario actually comes from the Japanese for bad, "warui," and that is the true meaning, the flipped "M" only being incidental.  It does not work for Waluigi, because his name does not start with an inverted "L" (although his hat does have one).  Nonetheless, Waluigi is an anagram for the word "igiwalui," which can mean "bad person."

What's remarkable about Princess Biichi is that her name continues the trend on BOTH levels.  The letter "p" does become "b" when flipped.  Also, her name still means something.  She's a tad *****y!

Moad, Mart, Woshi, Baisy are all nonsensical in that don't word on any level.... although, I heard that SMRPG's Boshi--the spike collared, sunglasses-wearing evil blue Yoshi--was named Washi in the original Japanese version.

Hey Penguinwizard, wasn't Fara Phoenix just a character from the Nintendo Power Star Fox comics?  The only female character I recall is Katt Munroe from Star Fox 64.... And by the way, I would bet money on Pit showing up in the new Smash Brothers.

Actually, Penguinwizard, you might be wrong.  Go to the Nintendo website and they describe Smash Brothers Melee as having characters from vintage NES days, like the cult figure Ice Climber... you know, the little eskimo dude with the hammer?  And if HE makes it in, guys like Pit actually stand a chance.

Incidently, I read at the GIA that the demo wowed audiences with new playable characters like Bowser and Shiek from Zelda: Ocarina of Time.  Bowser!  Shiek!  And Shiek is Zelda!  We can finally play as Princess Zelda (although she will look like a boy...)

While I'm at it, I would like to see Peach, Wario, Joanna Dark, Banjo, and King Hippo from Punch-Out thrown into the mix as well...

Mario Chat / Re: Proof that female Yoshies exist
« on: May 15, 2001, 12:43:15 PM »
It should probably be noted that Birdo (or Catherine as she is sometimes known) was not originally female.  The instruction manual for Super Mario Bros. 2 states that Birdo is a boy who likes to think he's a girl.  Her next appearance was in Wario's Woods for the NES, where her name was Catherine.  After that, she was Birdo again in Super Mario RPG, and they referred to hear as female.  Maybe everyone forgot she used to be a boy, or maybe Nintendo just decided the whole gender-bending thing was inappropriate.  Or, hey--maybe Yoshi swings that way.

Yeah, I've been here from the start too.  The very first day, although my name was Kinopio at the time.  I'm glad to see a lot of the cool crew that posted in the beginning are still around, but I dunno, though... I haven't posted in a while because there hasn't been much worth talking about.  No news and no topics that have sparked my interest...

Oh, does anyone else miss Kat?
