Ok... I´ll clear some things up:
Yoshi can swim in SMW, right?
Yoshi can swim in YI, right?
Yoshi can swim in YS, right?
Yoshi can NOT swim in SMS, right?
Here´s the reason:
All Yoshi´s are different!
For example:
Humans!
Let´s say that SMW is in japan and SMS is in Australia. Are those peoples different? YES! Are those Yoshi´s different! YES!
All Yoshis at different places ARE different!

Nintendo´s official Super Smash Brothers Melee Guide page 123: Cheats

Cheat 26: Play as Mario With FLUDD

In order to do this, you will need to own both SSBM and SMS. Take all shine sprites and beat Bowser. Save on the save memory card as SSBM. Start SSBM and beat adventure mode with MARIO on Very Hard without using continue. Go back to SMS and go back to the airstrip. Talk to the princess who is waiting there. Leave the island. Play SMS and voila!

Idea:
Download a Super Mario Sunshine ISO (or is it called ICO? I dunno) + an emulator + a hexeditor. Open the game in the hex editor and find out what every number means in the programming! (And find out what will happen OR move the book to another location)
