Don't forget Kolorado's wife in the first Paper Mario.  And of course, Kammy the Magikoopa.

I don't know why people who obviously have no interest, or even approval, of this thread keep posting here.  There's nothing stopping you from just ignoring it if you don't like it.

Anyway.

Humans in the Marioverse: Another theory on humans is that all of the humans we've seen so far have all come from Earth like Mario and Luigi did.  That might explain why most of the humans we've seen have been royalty.  Maybe the inhabitants of the Mushroom World see them as special in some way.

Luigi's Mansion: I had completey forgotten about Gadd and the ghosts.  If they were all actual ghosts and not just fabrications created by the King Boo then that would be at least partial evidence that there were once people in the Mushroom World before Mario and Luigi.

Koopa Kids: I've always viewed the Koopa Kids (the original seven, not the mini-bowser clones) as not having naturally occured.  Maybe Bowser got his magikoopas to copy him in some way so that he would have an heir and thus ended up with seven different peices of his personality in physical form.  That would also explain why he made Bowser Jr.  Because the original seven were such a let down.

Wario and Waluigi: I've always thought that the Wario brothers (if they are in fact brothers, which I believe they are) were just normal people who were twisted and warped by their greedy ways.  Much like Gollum in The Lord of the Rings, Wario and Waluigi started out as normal kids but then met up with Mario and Luigi, causing them to become darker more  malevolent versions of themselves.

The Mushroom "caps": I've never liked the idea that the tops are hats.  I'm not sure how much evidence points in favor of it, but I personally have never accepted that theory.

Even if the Toads are just wearing hats (which is a theory that I'm strongly opposed to) then they still probably couldn't be considred human because A) they have no noses, B) they have no ears, and C) they all differ from humans in size too much.

I've always theorized that humans have come from a different region that just hasn't been explored in the games yet.

Recall from where, exactly?  As far as I know, their parents were both human.

Wow, thanks for all the kind words.

And I agree that rats aren't always a bad thing.  After all, look at The Rats of Nihm (great book).  And yes, I'll be sure to check out your literary work, Suffix.  ^_^

Anyway, Here's the prologue if you'd like to see it.  It's not much but I'm just starting to get rolling.  ;-)

                    Prologue

The light of the crystal ball shone brightly, illuminating a small portion of the room around it, but leaving the majority draped in darkness.  The podium which it rested upon was pure, unblemished, white and the floor beneath was a sheet of blue and black marble.  The light which emanated from the ball glided and shimmered against the floor, as if reflected by water, fluid and perfect in all its movements.

Just then, a cloaked figure moved towards the ball, seemingly from nowhere, his movements more of a floating than a walking.  A long white beard and two glowing eyes were all that could be seen from underneath the hood of his cloak, giving him an aura of both incredible power and kind wisdom.  He glided across the floor towards the crystal ball and gazed deeply into its recesses.

“Yes…” he whispered, “yes, it seems the time has come.”

The cloaked figure continued to look into the light of the ball for several more seconds before turning his back to it and gliding back into the shadows.

“The time…has finally come.”

Just before Merlon faded away completely, the glowing orbs that were his eyes drifted closed and his head hung low at the knowledge of what he must do.

Apparently I stand corrected in terms of Mario Bros DS.  Supposedly the release date has been set to February 25, 2005.  Here's the source if you wanna take a look.

I don't know how trust worthy that news is, but it's better than nothing.

Lol Ok ok, Chupperson called me on a technicality.  I guess I should say that I and a rather minute amount of people agree it's a doomed project.

I still think it's better to just keep the regular Starman and the regular Super Mushroom.  I suppose if they wanted to they could add a new SUPER Mushroom that did the whole invincibility thing.  But I'd still like to keep the classics around.  After, that's pretty much what all the early games were based on.

Anyway, back on the topic of Mario Bros. DS, the fact that they havn't released any new info on the game kind of has me worried.  Like I said, they pretty much pulled the same thing with Mario 128 (which I think we can all agree is a doomed project).  I call it "Duke Nukem Forever" syndrome; company keeps promising to release a game soon, and yet it just never comes out.

But if the Super Mushroom makes you invincible then there really isn't a point for there to be a Starman.  I dunno, personally I think they should be kept as two seperate items.

lol Yeah, I was actually afraid people would think I said Mario64 DS and I would seem like an idiot.  But no, I meant the 3D sidescroller we saw at E3.  And is it just me or is anybody else kinda ticked off that they made the Super Mushroom into a replacement for the Starman?

Good: Mario, of course.  ^_^

Bad: Probably the Magikoopas.

*SPOILERS*

Yoshi has to unlock Mario, Luigi, and Wario in order for you to play as them.  Until then, through out all the levels there are red, green, and yellow hats that Yoshi can find that allow him to transform into them.  There are certain stars that cannot be obtained unless he is in a certain character form (ex. You can't race Koopa the Quick unless you're playing as Mario).

But yeah, so there ya go.

Hmm, some of the graphics looked a bit choppy to me.  But I suppose it's a small price to pay for a handheld N64 ;-).

*spoilers*

It seems as though they've made King Bob-omb have a mustache that actually looks like a mustache.  When I played the original Mario64 I thought he had some kind of deranged grin on his face  ^_^().

Oh, here's another thing I noticed in some of the very early gameplay shots.  They've changed Bowser's character model drastically.  They went from the hunched over saurian look to the newer upright humanoid look, which I think is very unfortunate.  I liked him better when he was less human looking (kind of like how they made him in Smash Bros. Melee).

But yeah, anyway.  The footage looks pretty good.  Thanks for the heads up.

Chestnut, eh?  Hmmm, I'm relatively sure that goombas aren't "chestnuts" in Japanese.  If I'm not mistaken, I think that Goombas are called Kuribos in Japan.  Maybe "kuribo" is very similar to the word for chestnut?
