Here we can discuss the new baseball game from Nintendo, featuring Mario! Hopefully some Wii-specific controls will bring fun to the sequel. I didn't care for the first one, honestly. Below are some details from gonintendo.com:

mario super sluggers
- june in japan
- also coming to NA
- pull back to pitch, wati until rings algn for perfect pitch
- -twist wiimote for spin on pitch
- shake to run, shake to throw
- hit a as you run to dive and field the ball
- hammer bros in game
- a and b for special pitch
- baby luigi
- bunting possible
- special hits
- wario in game
- shyguy in game
- birdo
<Kojinka> When I saw this thread back on top, I was afraid this was gonna be another pointless bump by a new member, but when I saw Super-Jesse's username, my fears were laid to rest.

I think that "Super Mario Sluggers" is a MUCH better name than "Super Mario Stadium Baseball"

I agree, I like the name, and so far the gameplay seems to be just as refreshing.

Well, that was obviously an Engrish tentative title from the start.

Green Shell - Shoot a player and daze them if hit.
Fire Ball - Seen in video's but function yet unknown.
Triple Boo - Seen in video's but function yet unknown.

Mega Mushroom - Crush your opponents while baserunning.

Stadiums

The stadiums are all based off of a particular captain, excluding Birdo, Waluigi, and Diddy Kong. Each of the ten stadiums can be played in both daytime or nighttime. Most of them also have their own personalized sets of obstacles; this is excluding Mario Stadium.

Mario Stadium
Luigi's Mansion
Peach Rink
Daisy Cruiser
Yoshi Park
Wario City
DK Jungle
Bowser Jr.'s Room
Toy Field
Bowser Castle
Chomp Desert

Gameplay
Mario Super Sluggers can be played using three different control methods:

Wii Remote (vertical)
Wii Remote (horizontal)
Wii Remote + Nunchuk combo
In order to bat or pitch, the A button must be held and then the Wii Remote must be swung at the appropriate time. The more precise the hit/pitch, the further/faster the ball will go. The player can do curve balls as well by twisting the Wii Remote, while pitching. Once the ball is in a fielder's hand, the Remote must be swung so that the fielder can pitch the ball at one of the basemen. Some fielders can throw fast balls or Laser Balls in order to get to one of the basemen faster.

Star Skills will reappear in Super Sluggers as well. Any player can pitch or bat using Star Skills, however only Team Captains can use special hits/pitches. Team Players can only use Star skills that will make the ball go faster or slower.

So Toad is still not a captain?!
Kinopio is the ultimate video game character! Who else can drive a kart, host parties, play tennis, give good advice and items, and is almost always happy??

Yes, more Donkey Kong characters! It's also good that there's going to be items this time around - should liven up the play more.

HOWEVER, I seem to remember hearing that there will be no online play. Is this true? Because that would really stink, considering that they know how to do online play fine. :(
What is a mystery? Just go inside my head, and you'll find out.

Why is Donkey Kong listed under both Team Captains and Team Players?

It would take quite a bit to convince me to buy any sports game, even a Mario one.

Regular sports games are usually too bland for me, that's why it's better if they have Mario characters in them.

Where would they have gotten a 3D render of Baby DK?

However, I do wonder why [adult] DK isn't on there, considering Bowser's square is visible.

That looks pretty cool. I just hope there's a co-op career mode. I also wish you could make teams with all "major" characters. And of course I hope there's real-time bat action with the wiimote, not programmed swings like Wii sports.

I'll probably get it, it's coming out 3 days after my birthday so I'll have some cash to spare. My bro and I will likely split it.
Kickin' it since 2000.

When people start thinking a screenshot for a game is fake because it looks bad, I think we're all in trouble.

When people start thinking a screenshot for a game is fake because it looks bad, I think we're all in trouble.
Well, it's a valid concern. We expect games to be flashy these days. And we don't expect gamemakers to go with poor design choices unless we're talking about, say, Ninjabread Man. And sometimes calling a bad screenshot fake is justified. Remember screenshots saying Bomberman would be in Smash Bros. Brawl? One such screenshot was very blurry, making it look like it was plausible.

For the record, I think it looks fake too. But first, I'll point out some other things. Funky Kong and Dry Bones' faces look stretched, the two Boos and Goombas look way too similar, and that baby Bowser fellow to the right of Luigi is creeping me the heck out. Are those big teeth and gums I'm seeing? What am I looking at there? Glad to see King K. Rool and Kamek (or Magikoopa, whatever), surprised to see Wiggler and Monty Mole though. And Paratroopa looks ridiculous with the wings growing out of his head, although I can see why just to distinguish the two koopas.
Also, I'd expect Donkey Kong to be in that roster somewhere (nevermind that he's in the upper-left corner). I see a grayed-out spot, suggesting that chosen players are grayed out, but that doesn't look like DK's silhouette to me, looks like Bowser's silhouette. Oh, Bowser's below. So yeah, where's DK's silhouette?

...since when were a winged and unwinged creature considered separate characters? Are they really that desperate to fill up spaces?

I'm more concerned about Boo and King Boo. It'd be all right if King Boo didn't look exactly like a regular Boo with a crown. It's a shame his interesting design only lasted one game.
