Video Game Chat / Re: Smash Bros. A fighting game?
« on: September 26, 2007, 06:00:46 PM »
I always treat it as a platformer.

Let's look at the facts:
1. I'm simply terrible at all fighting games.
2. I'm really good at platformers.
3. I can hold my own in Smash Bros.

I think the different characters and play styles allow for a good amount of variety in the way people can approach the game, but to me it'll always be a platformer first and a fighter second.

...Not sure if this is quite significant a post, but it made me laugh...

Certainly not any songs to wear pants to, I'd wager.

No games?
Not even any consideration for Landstalker, one of the greatest games on the Genesis?

I like Pichu

I like Pichu, too.

He's much more tender than Pikachu, but not nearly as filling.

Well, just use your judgment.
If it's something you're proud of or that you worked hard on, go ahead and give it its own topic.
If it's something smaller or quicker but still worthwhile, go ahead and group it with other like pieces, either in its own topic, or in a topic dedicated to your own art.
If it's something really small or decidedly not worthy of a new topic, go ahead and post it here.

...Or something like that.
Just don't confine it all to this little topic; there's a whole subforum out there, waiting to be filled with art.

Heh, nothing wrong with drawing Yoshis, and you've made some pretty cute/amusing ones.

One point I'd like to raise in general, though:  Why are people still using this thread?
It was originally made in the general chat area so that there'd be a place to post artwork, but now there's a whole subforum for fan-made creations!  This little thread is suffocating all of the different pieces!
You guys can go ahead and make new threads when you've got something to show.  Nobody's gonna complain; that's what the subforum's for!

...Yeah, that's just been bugging me.

How about just Yoshi, then?
Wouldn't he qualify as a power-up in SMW?

Heh... this is a rather insignificant point, but I liked the fact that each of the horcruxes (horcruces?) was destroyed by a different person.

Fan Creations / Yoshi jump - rough animation
« on: August 01, 2007, 11:54:57 PM »
I'm not sure if this is really art-worthy (or topic-worthy, for that matter), but I was fooling around with Autodesk Animator (a very excellent 17-year-old DOS-based animation program) and made a short little animation thingy.  With a Yoshi.
It's only a rough animation, but I'm not expecting I'll ever clean it up.
(And ignore the lack of spikes/etc., and the little symbols).

So:  Yoshi jump.

General Chat / A few questions of -handedness and writing circles...
« on: August 01, 2007, 06:08:30 PM »
Alright, this question was initially out of curiosity of whether there's a correlation between the way one would circle the letter O when writing and the direction that you'd spin the stylus about the DS screen when prompted to do so (either by Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents, or a WarioWare game, or some such).
The question also came up as to whether being left- or right-handed becomes a factor as to which way one choses to write a circle.  And so this poll was made.  Go ahead and give it some thought, and then answer which combination suits you.

And if you're not sure which way you circle an O, go ahead and just write naturally (non-cursive, please) and find out.  It's not something most people think about when doing, and accuracy is important here.

...And if you happen to hold your pencil in an unusual fashion (like me), you might also state that, if you so choose.  I'm not quite sure what the "correct" way to circle an O is, but I'm sure I sort of refused to learn the "correct" way of holding a pencil.

Anyway, go forth and vote!
In the name of science!
Or something!

Heh, Cave Story is definitely a worthy game.
So awesome in so many ways...

I also heard about Pixel's trying an RPG.  Definitely sounds like something to keep an eye on.

Kweh!  Dynamite Headdy on the virtual console!
Anyone who likes a good, unique platformer with lots o' Treasure-brand strangeness should definitely give that game a download.
And if you get far enough in it, you'll see my sig!
