Author Topic: What's the WORST Mario game ever?  (Read 16252 times)

« on: May 29, 2000, 01:19:49 PM »
I know somebody's going to ask people for their favorite, so I put this up. Only rule is that Nintendo probably knows about it, i.e. it can't be that game made by the guy who spells adventure a-d-v-e-n-c-h-e-r. ;)

Personally, I think the although noone of the endorsed Mario games were total crud, the least fun one was Mario's Game Gallery (also known as Mario's FUNdementals. If you don't know what that is, look under PC games.)

I never liked Mario Is Missing, or his time machine. In fact, almost all of his educational games were pretty bad (like the ones you said.

The worst (regular) Mario game I would have to say is Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA version).  It has nothing to do with the Mario storyline, and it just seems dumb to me, dunno why.

Check out my Mario site, Super Mario 64 Central at www.sm64c.com

That's cause it's a tottaly different game, with Mario people put in. They said the real SMB2 was to hard for us Americans... for more details, check out the SMB2 madness special here at TMK. The worst regular game for me is the SMB2(USA) too, though. It's not too bad, but it's not the best. Yoshi's Story gets 2nd place.

SMB2 (US) for sure... I guess it doesn't really count since it's not really a Mario game, but they should've known better before slapping the license on it!  I will always be confused by the people who love Zelda 2 and/or Mario 2. :)

First off, I LOVE Mario Golf (Sans the ****** Guru) and I would have to say the worst Mario Game of all time would be Donkey Kong on the Atari 2600, what a stinker, at least the Intellivision looked good. (I collect old DK stuff)

i don't know about you guys, but for me...it has to be the first smb game on gameboy. man, with floaty controls, wack graphics, stages that were in need of dire repair, etc...it just made me mad that i actually played thru it and beat it.

oh, i be lovin SMB2(USA)..dont know why, but it's my favorite version. maybe because of the huge diversion from other games?

The worst Mario game ever is "Mario is missing". that was really the worst game.
It was so UNmario and boring. it wasn't related to Mario at all.
I think the best was SMW and SMB3.
I also think that Mario Golf(for GBC) is really bad.

I tried to play Mario's Time Machine once, it was the stupidist thing i had played (and i have played Playstation).  First the plot sux, second it was educational!

I also think it is sad that the one game Luigi stars in i.e. Mario's Missing was so bad.

Mario is my favorite video game series. Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Super Mario Kart are my absolute favorite. The only Mario games I can't stand are: a) the cheesy educational games, b) a lot of the sports games and c) the Mario Party games didn't really interest me....

I change my answer. You'd be hard pressed to find it, but a game called Hotel Mario was once on the CD-i, check out the instruction booklet I typed up on it. A stinker if I ever saw one, put breifly the koopa kids cheat in the game and it gets repetitive after the first level.
BTW, I like Super Mario Land, on trips I beat it every time, it's fun and easy.

Definitely Yoshi's Story. It would have been fine if it was A LOT harder, and there were more than 6 levels to get through 'till you beat the game.

Yoshi's Story would have been cool if you played all the levels, and to unlock certain levels you had to find so many melons, because getting all the melons is kinda tough.

My least favorite game besides the educational games is Mario 64.  I hate how they changed the whole style of the game.  The levels were so repetitive, and I hated the control.

Are you on drugs or something? Mario 64 is one of the BEST Mario games in the whole universe (with the exception of Super Mario Bros. 3)!!

My least fave Mario game is Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA version). It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the classic Mario storyline! For those of you who have never played it, it's about Mario and his friends (Toad, Luigi, Princess Toadstool) going on a picnic. Mario opens a door to a strange cave and enters the world of Sub-Con: The Land of Dreams. He then hears a strange voice calling for help. It tells him that Wart, a giant toad/frog, has invaded their land and has sent out his evil minions to kill everyone! Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Toadstool all decide to find Wart and kill him before it's too late. See how pathetic a story that is? Nintendo should've released SMB2 (Japan version) in the states so we wouldn't have to face this son of a ***** game!

Mario Maniac!!
People who like video games should also like Nintendo. People who don't like Nintendo obviously don't like video games.

Lemme explain why the Mario 2 US plot was so dumb. NoA took a japanese game called Doki Doki Panic and changed the characters into mario characters and the plot into something stupid. The enemies are from Doki Doki Panic they left those enemies on SMB2US so that's why those enemies are completely different.

I think the worst one would be those dumb educational ones. Besides that would be those sport ones (Mario Golf and all those ones)
My favorite is pobably either Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World

« Reply #24 on: June 05, 2000, 10:18:28 AM »
I think the worst "Mario" game is "Super Mario Bros. 2: The Dream Machine."  I like it, just it doesn't measure up to the other "Mario" games.  Maybe I should say it it the least great one.  It's good, just not "Mario" good.  "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island" would be the runner up for worst/least great in my opinion.  They totally strayed away from "Super Mario World," threw out the time-honored "Mario" mechanics, changed many things to be more geared for younger players, and it almost seems thet they were trying to remake "Mario 2" in some ways.

The worst Mario game I have ever played is Mario's Time Machine. First of all, it was educational. Second, I don't think Mario interacting with Franklin, Columbus, etc., would be right. And third, there is no use for jumping. The best part about the game(All of the game sucks anyway)was when you were surfing to a moment in history, collecting mushrooms.
