Author Topic: A theory on SMG's story.  (Read 10584 times)

« on: August 08, 2006, 06:25:04 PM »
Super Mario Galaxy is shaping up to be a great game. However, we know hardly anything about the story beyond the fact that Princess Peach gets kidnapped by a creature from space. So I have a theory on the storyline of SMG;

There are two planets neibouring each other; The Star World and the Mushroom World, where the Mushroom Kingdom is. The Star World is held together by dozens of stars. Without them, the star world drifts into hundreds of small planitoids. For centuries, the two planets could only commuinicate via radio waves sent from one planet to the other. However, new advances in technology has lead the inhabitants of the mushroom world to create a space ship that could get to the star world in a matter of three days. Princess Peach and the seven kings from SMB3 blast off in the ship. Strangely, on the third day of flying, the space association of the mushroom kingdom(TSAOTMK) lost contact with the ship and the star world in general.

Scared that something bad may have happened, The Mushroom Kingdom sent their greatest champions, Mario and Luigi, in a spare ship to investigate what happened. On their third day of flying, a strange creature raids the brothers' ship and destroys it. He places the brothers in two "bubbles" and places them in outer space near Star World. Mario and Luigi remain there for 1 day, cold and hungry...until suddenly the bubble they are trapped in pops! They fall towards Star World. Once they've landed they are greated by a small, tiny, faceless star(he's the cursor that you control in SMG) that claims to be the one that popped their bubbles.  He explains that Peach and Co. were brainwashed by the creature (he is the Star World equivalent of Bowser) into stealing the stars that kept Star World together.

Under the influence of this creature, Peach and Co. proceeded to steal the stars and as a result, Star World drifted into pieces.  The creature then took Peach and the 7 kings away to his castle.  The star told Mario that he needed to collect the stars located on certain parts of Star World inorder to bring the planet back together again.

In the game, whenever you collect new stars, certain parts of the courses that you have played will now become a part of Star World.  Collecting a certain amount of stars will allow you to go to other coures to collect even more stars.  Older courses become unplayable.  However, you CAN play them with the use of Toad's virtual reality system, which becomes available as older courses become unplayable.

Oh,and Goombella did say that "They were able to put a Goomba on the moon in '69". However, the moon is closer to mushroom world then Starworld. It would have taken 25 years to get to star world and back before the mushroom people invented a faster rocket ship.

Sooo... that's just my theory. Please, feel free to leave any comments.

Or how about Tatanga captures Peach, hauls her into space, and the Mario Bros. rush to her rescue?  Yeah, I like that.

I just feel like the complicated stories have a place in the Mario universe, and that's in the RPG games.  Let the platformers have straightforward storylines.

I'll admit, my storyline is complicated, but it's just my theory on how the story line will work out. Also, it explains how Mario will eventually be able to explore more areas; as he collects more stars, the planet will start to peice it self together, and more "launching stars"(the ones where you're blasted off to another planitoid) will appear on the planet's suface.

Thanks for the comment, BC! I appreciate it.

I agree. It seems silly just to make up a story for a game that won't be out for a long time, especially a game such as this.
Remember that your first Goomba boldly you walk? When Mario touched that mushroom being brought up more largely remember that you are surprised? Miscalculate your jump that pit remember that it falls?

Moreover, this won't be the storyline, and you'll feel betrayed when you find out the REAL story line.

:/ I thought it would be fun to post what I thought the game's storyline would be like...

As the title says, this is a theory on SMG's story. I'm not saying it's true.

The game's storyline is Peach gets abducted by aliens. IT IS NO MORE THAN THAT! Of course, there will be the little things, such as their race, their planet and so on, but nothing more. It's just stupid speculating on what the stroyline will be when we know it won't. Why don't you think up a storyline for a new game?

Come on guys, he's made a valid point here. You never now, his story may be close to what the true story line is. If anything, it'd make a well written story by itself.

Thank you, PaperLuigi, for the compliment. There isn't a big chance of them using my story or a simular idea, but like you said before, you never know.

The main reason I wrote the theory was to explain how Mario would be able to play more courses; by collecting stars, the Star world will piece itself together. It then evolved from there.

I thought it was good, but the Seven Kings don't have a snowball's chance in Lethal Lava Land of reappearing.

No need to harp on the guy, this IS a fun topic.

Are we going to start taking bets on who's going to be the villain in this?  Did the demo videos at E3 only show giant bosses, or were there goombas too?  I feel like there were goombas.

I'm not sure if I want it to just be Bowser again or not.  On the one hand, it'd be awesomely classic to face off against Bowser and the Koopas, and hey, if they use this as a chance to bring back the Koopalings, I'm all for it!  We probably won't be seeing Koopalings though, since the bosses appear to be of the giant monster variety.

I'd love to see Tatanga or the Shroobs come back (or have one make a cameo with the other as the main villain), but I feel like those are two unlikely options.  I think we have a better chance of seeing an all new villain, if it's not Bowser and co.

What do you guys think on this?

Somehow, I think the villian is going to be Bowser. You just watch, he'll conjure up some bonehead plan he swears that will work. "I can't beat Mario on the ground, so I'll try to kick his butt in space! Now what to use for bait..........let's see..........oh yeah, duh! Princess Peach!" Peach will get her sorry butt kidnapped again, only this time, Bowser takes her into space. Mario has to save her, yada yada yada....................

Happens all the time. Just when you think he can't take it anymore, he comes back for another beating.

There were goombas. I stomped them with Mario's own two feet.

Speaking of villians, what do you think the names of the bosses from the E3 demo will be? I have some ideas...

Octopus boss: King Octopest
Robot boss: Snifot v1.x
Spider boss: Spidron

I agree, it's a great story, but not for something we already know the storyline to.

Save the complicated storylines for the RPGs.  I think SMG's story will be the simple, yet classic "Peach gets kidnapped... again, and Mario goes off to save her... again."

PS. I think the main villain should be either Tatanga or a whole new character.  But I think it'd be fun if it was Bowser.  You know, for old times' sake.
The Shroobs would make fun cameos.

What intrigues me that some people are criticizing this one topic where a fellow member is simply presenting an idea about SMG despite the myriad number of "Ideas for the next Super Smash Bros" topics peppered throughout the forums.

SSB is a lot more idea-worthy.

« Reply #19 on: August 16, 2006, 06:17:55 PM »
And SMG is not because...?

But really, I dislike how this is being criticized with these "pointless speculation" comments. This is just one topic; made because its creator wanted to share an idea about SMG.
Moreover, this won't be the storyline, and you'll feel betrayed when you find out the REAL story line.
So you don't think people will "feel betrayed" when like 95% of the characters they came up with won't appear in the character lineup for the next SSB (no offense)? It's just an idea. This is no different than the SSB topics all over the place, so there is no need to belittle this one.

First off, there isn't any need to be a sarcastic smart alec. Second, I can't begin to tell you how irrelevent that statement is to the point I'm making. What I'm saying is that the existence of this one SMG speculation topic is criticized yet SSB speculation topics are made all the time. Why criticize it when it has the same premise of all of those: to simply present ideas about a future game?

Thank you, NintendoExpert. Oh, and as for the chef, Wario and Pit were the rather obvious choices. Wario especially.

Whoever said "Save the complicated stories for RPGs," I respectfully disagree...

If you ask me, Super Mario Sunshine had a somewhat complicated plot; Baby Bowser steals E. Gadd's paintbrush technology, he finds a special bandana that creates an illusion of Mario, and Bowser tricks him into thinking that Peach is his real mother.  But to kidnap Peach, Baby Bowser uses the paintbrush to pollute Isle Delfino to distract Mario, etc...

THAT is the most complex kidnapping scheme Bowser has ever used before.  What stops any of us from believing that Mario Galaxy will be even more complex?  And it's not really a platformer, it's more of an adventure game (IMO, a platformer is 2D).

A platformer can be in 3D.  SM64 is in 3D, but its platformer half has the same amount of charm that its adventure side has.  As for SMS, I kind of agree it had a somewhat complex plot.  However, because the full plot wasn't entirely in depth, I don't find it to be  very complicated.

As for SMG, they should put Luigi in it too.

Oh, and when I look at complex plot in a Mario game, I consider how big a reason the main bad guy has for kidnapping Peach, and how complex his/her scheme is.  If Peach is like a key for obtaining some world-conquering thing, and not simply because the bad guy has the hots for her, that's gonna invlove a nice, complicated plot.  Villains like the X-Nauts and the Shroobs have a goal similar to one of Bowser's, only on a much larger scale.  Instead of just the kingdom, these guys want to conquer the entire planet.

Actiuly, Bowser wants to rule The Mushroom Kingdom so he tries to marry Peach and force the Toads to do what he wants them to do for him.

Actually, it has been noted with canon evidence that Bowser indeed has the hots for Peach.  He indeed kidnaps Peach to force her into marrying him, so he could rule TMK, but I think there may be more to it hidden in the Koopa King's shell.

Actually, the monster needed some way to get the stars that held the star world together, but since the people of the star world were prepared for anything he might do to get the stars, he couldn't just get near the stars and grab them. He hypnotized Peach since, well, see was a princess, so why wouldn't they trust her? To bad the creature took advantge of this by hypnotizing her to steal the stars. After the Star-world drifted into pieces, Peach meant nothing to the creature, but he went through all the trouble of hi-jacking her space ship, so why not keep her? In my theory, Peach had already served her purpose.

I guess since because the creature had more of a purpose for kidnapping Peach other than love, I guess you could call my story complex.

at least I think... And I meant that those were the only games without bowser, I wasn't sure if those were all of the games without bowser/

In some of those examples, he's behind it in some way, and he does have a plot; usually trying to kidnap the princess.
