Author Topic: A theory on SMG's story.  (Read 10542 times)

Super Mario Galaxy is shaping up to be a great game. However, we know hardly anything about the story beyond the fact that Princess Peach gets kidnapped by a creature from space. So I have a theory on the storyline of SMG;

There are two planets neibouring each other; The Star World and the Mushroom World, where the Mushroom Kingdom is. The Star World is held together by dozens of stars. Without them, the star world drifts into hundreds of small planitoids. For centuries, the two planets could only commuinicate via radio waves sent from one planet to the other. However, new advances in technology has lead the inhabitants of the mushroom world to create a space ship that could get to the star world in a matter of three days. Princess Peach and the seven kings from SMB3 blast off in the ship. Strangely, on the third day of flying, the space association of the mushroom kingdom(TSAOTMK) lost contact with the ship and the star world in general.

Scared that something bad may have happened, The Mushroom Kingdom sent their greatest champions, Mario and Luigi, in a spare ship to investigate what happened. On their third day of flying, a strange creature raids the brothers' ship and destroys it. He places the brothers in two "bubbles" and places them in outer space near Star World. Mario and Luigi remain there for 1 day, cold and hungry...until suddenly the bubble they are trapped in pops! They fall towards Star World. Once they've landed they are greated by a small, tiny, faceless star(he's the cursor that you control in SMG) that claims to be the one that popped their bubbles.  He explains that Peach and Co. were brainwashed by the creature (he is the Star World equivalent of Bowser) into stealing the stars that kept Star World together.

Under the influence of this creature, Peach and Co. proceeded to steal the stars and as a result, Star World drifted into pieces.  The creature then took Peach and the 7 kings away to his castle.  The star told Mario that he needed to collect the stars located on certain parts of Star World inorder to bring the planet back together again.

In the game, whenever you collect new stars, certain parts of the courses that you have played will now become a part of Star World.  Collecting a certain amount of stars will allow you to go to other coures to collect even more stars.  Older courses become unplayable.  However, you CAN play them with the use of Toad's virtual reality system, which becomes available as older courses become unplayable.

Oh,and Goombella did say that "They were able to put a Goomba on the moon in '69". However, the moon is closer to mushroom world then Starworld. It would have taken 25 years to get to star world and back before the mushroom people invented a faster rocket ship.

Sooo... that's just my theory. Please, feel free to leave any comments.

Or how about Tatanga captures Peach, hauls her into space, and the Mario Bros. rush to her rescue?  Yeah, I like that.

I just feel like the complicated stories have a place in the Mario universe, and that's in the RPG games.  Let the platformers have straightforward storylines.

I'll admit, my storyline is complicated, but it's just my theory on how the story line will work out. Also, it explains how Mario will eventually be able to explore more areas; as he collects more stars, the planet will start to peice it self together, and more "launching stars"(the ones where you're blasted off to another planitoid) will appear on the planet's suface.

Thanks for the comment, BC! I appreciate it.

I agree. It seems silly just to make up a story for a game that won't be out for a long time, especially a game such as this.
Remember that your first Goomba boldly you walk? When Mario touched that mushroom being brought up more largely remember that you are surprised? Miscalculate your jump that pit remember that it falls?

Moreover, this won't be the storyline, and you'll feel betrayed when you find out the REAL story line.

:/ I thought it would be fun to post what I thought the game's storyline would be like...

As the title says, this is a theory on SMG's story. I'm not saying it's true.

The game's storyline is Peach gets abducted by aliens. IT IS NO MORE THAN THAT! Of course, there will be the little things, such as their race, their planet and so on, but nothing more. It's just stupid speculating on what the stroyline will be when we know it won't. Why don't you think up a storyline for a new game?

Come on guys, he's made a valid point here. You never now, his story may be close to what the true story line is. If anything, it'd make a well written story by itself.

Thank you, PaperLuigi, for the compliment. There isn't a big chance of them using my story or a simular idea, but like you said before, you never know.

The main reason I wrote the theory was to explain how Mario would be able to play more courses; by collecting stars, the Star world will piece itself together. It then evolved from there.

I thought it was good, but the Seven Kings don't have a snowball's chance in Lethal Lava Land of reappearing.

No need to harp on the guy, this IS a fun topic.

Are we going to start taking bets on who's going to be the villain in this?  Did the demo videos at E3 only show giant bosses, or were there goombas too?  I feel like there were goombas.

I'm not sure if I want it to just be Bowser again or not.  On the one hand, it'd be awesomely classic to face off against Bowser and the Koopas, and hey, if they use this as a chance to bring back the Koopalings, I'm all for it!  We probably won't be seeing Koopalings though, since the bosses appear to be of the giant monster variety.

I'd love to see Tatanga or the Shroobs come back (or have one make a cameo with the other as the main villain), but I feel like those are two unlikely options.  I think we have a better chance of seeing an all new villain, if it's not Bowser and co.

What do you guys think on this?

Somehow, I think the villian is going to be Bowser. You just watch, he'll conjure up some bonehead plan he swears that will work. "I can't beat Mario on the ground, so I'll try to kick his butt in space! Now what to use for bait..........let's see..........oh yeah, duh! Princess Peach!" Peach will get her sorry butt kidnapped again, only this time, Bowser takes her into space. Mario has to save her, yada yada yada....................

Happens all the time. Just when you think he can't take it anymore, he comes back for another beating.

There were goombas. I stomped them with Mario's own two feet.

Speaking of villians, what do you think the names of the bosses from the E3 demo will be? I have some ideas...

Octopus boss: King Octopest
Robot boss: Snifot v1.x
Spider boss: Spidron
