Mario Party 5 is a totally unneccesary sequel.  I agree with the rating.

That is just AMAZING!!  Getting all those 1UPs in the World 8 levels was especially impressive.

By the way was this the Japanese version, or some other Asian language?  Because I noticed that some of the sound effects were different - namely the pipe, fireball, and bullet/cannon sounds.  I think this should be put into the "From Japanese to English" page.

Mario Chat / Re: The worst Mario character(s)

Well if we're counting DK characters, then Dixie, Kiddy, and all of the new Kongs in DK64 (I don't even remember their names) are among the worst.

Other than that, Waluigi is pretty darn stupid.

I wouldn't be surprised if eventually every character had a baby version, a significant other, and an evil equivalent (or good equivalent in the case of Bowser et. al.)

"Now, you must not forget that it HAS to include Mario Bros. on it . Even Mario & Luigi has it."

Maybe it'll be a hacked version with Yoshi's instead of Mario and Luigi, and they'll replace the enemies with ones from YS, and try to pass it off as a new minigame.

Mario Chat / Re: Best Mario Tunes

Oh jeez, picking individual tunes is tough, though the original SMB overworld theme is probably my all-time favorite.  However, I think that the three major SNES Mario games (SMW, YI, and SMRPG) had the best soundtracks overall.  But all of Koji Kondo's Mario soundtracks are excellent (and yes, I know Koji didn't do SMRPG).

If anyone is brainwashed by GTA then they're the ones who are immature.  So are the people brainwashed into thinking that Mario is "kiddie" or whatever.

Mario Chat / Re: Super Mario Advance 4: Better or Worse?

Overall, I'd probably say that this version is inferior to the SMAS version...but that's like saying that SMW is inferior to SMB3 (or vice versa).  Some of the changes they made did make the game feel a tad too easy...the extra blocks in places, the continues, and the changes to Toad's Houses (World 6 is particularly different, you now get the Hammer Suit in the first house, and the second house can now be accessed without completing 6-5).  I've finished levels thinking, "Jeez, this seemed a lot easier than usual."  Also, I don't like the the changes they made to the text/dialogue, and the music seems to have suffered more in this game than in any previous SMA installments (the castle theme sounds terrible IMO and the underground theme doesn't sound right either).   I don't get it, Yoshi's Island sounded really close to SNES quality and that was more complex music.  Still, they did add some nice touches: the intro, the Boo sound effects, the new "Perfect Clear" screen, the walls to your left closing before fighting Boom-Boom just like in the Yoshi's Island boss battles, the new coin room music, and I even liked the voices.  The new e-Reader levels look great too, but I have yet to get an e-Reader so I'll have to wait on that.

Mario Chat / Re: Shouldnt Boshi be Yoshi's rival?
« on: October 27, 2003, 07:22:18 PM »
I don't get how Square owns Boshi considering that he was directly based on Yoshi who is a Nintendo-only creation.  Plus, Rare gave up the rights to the DKC characters, why can't Square do the same for the SMRPG ones?  Just wondering.

Actually I think the change may have been deliberate.  Several other text changes have been made in SMA4...at the end of the level, instead of "Course Clear, You Got A Card," it says "Level Cleared, You Got A Panel," and the kings now say "Splendid, splendid" instead of "Oh thank heavens."  Also, Jugem's Cloud is referred to as Lakitu's Cloud on the SMA4 website.
