Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7, previously known only as Super Mario and Mario Kart, respectively, will both launch this holiday season in North America. Super Mario 3D Land is currently scheduled for a November release, while Mario Kart 7 will arrive sometime in December. Both games have the same release schedule in Japan as well.

Along with the price drop, Nintendo has started a "Nintendo 3DS Ambassador" program for early adopters. Nintendo 3DS owners who connect to the eShop before August 12 (Eastern time) will automatically become Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors, and will qualify for 10 free NES and 10 free GBA Virtual Console games. The free games, available by the end of 2011, include Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong. We just upgraded to the long-awaited SMF version 2.0. Unfortunately, this broke the old FF theme. If you switch to the old theme you won't be able to switch back, so please be patient while we fix stuff.

Edit: The old FF theme has been disabled because in its current state it will log several errors for each pageview.

Edit2: I've cleaned up the default theme a bit. Avatars and smileys are available in the SMF Curve and Core themes.

Latest News / GDC 2011: Super Mario 3DS details
« on: March 02, 2011, 11:47:59 PM »
During his keynote speech at the Game Developers Conference earlier today, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed more details about the upcoming Super Mario game for Nintendo 3DS. Four screenshots were displayed on the screen behind Iwata as he announced that the game is being developed by Nintendo EAD Tokyo, the team behind the Super Mario Galaxy series. When the temporary "Super Mario" logo appeared on the screen, Iwata pointed out the tail in the shadow of the "O" and promised that the tail will be explained at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

Here are some screen captures from the keynote address video at http://gdc2011.nintendo.com:

In the latest volume of Iwata Asks: Super Mario 25th Anniversary, Shigeru Miyamoto mentions that he is "making a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS system." Though this doesn't exactly come as a surprise, it's nice to have confirmation. No other details were given, but I'd say it's likely that we'll hear more about the game during this year's E3.

« on: January 05, 2011, 09:49:17 PM »
For those of you that have access to a non-USA All-Stars package, we would like to know the catalog number on the soundtrack CD, as well as the track list. Right now we only have the USA version, so if you have one from any other region, it would help. Please scan 'em or snap a few pics, then post 'em here or e-mail us. As long as the info is readable, we'll credit you on that soundtrack page!

Satoru Iwata -- the president and CEO of Nintendo Co., Ltd. -- interviews the three DKCR senior designers from Retro Studios and the producer and assistant producer from the Nintendo side. This is probably the first "Iwata Asks" that they had to translate to Japanese.
