Mario Chat / Re: The MATURE console debate thread.
« on: February 10, 2002, 04:18:53 PM »
"1. The X-Box will be able to go online officialy in March, and has already gone online over GameSpy."

Now, that is a big problem. People don't like to pay to play their games. They just want to pay once and play as long as they like. But if they have to pay a monthly fee, then they might not be too fond of it.

"2. The weight of the X-Box doesn't mean much. I mean 9 lbs is about as much as a lap-top weighs... unless you get those super slim ones."

Last time I check, the XBox weight 8 or 9 pounds and is the size of a VCR. I have yet to see a laptop like that.

"3. The size doesn't affect how well the games will be. Also, the unit sits on top of your TV, and therefore it doesn't really matter."

We all know that. We know that the size of the system doesn't effect how the game plays, that would be the circuit.

"4. Who cares what it looks like. It's not like you're gonna be playing Halo and just staring at the console while you get fragged to death."

Now, people don't hate the XBox for its size, they just like making fun of that fact. What they really hate is the size of the CONTROLLER. A person's hand can really hurt after using that thing for a certain period of time.

"5. Of course it doesn't have Mario, but that's very given."

But you and I know they are going to copy it, then give it some stupid name.

"6. The games don't really suck. Halo is a killer-app and Phantasy Star Online, Grand Theft Auto 3, and Metal Gear Solid X are all comming to it. There are even rumors of Square developing for it, but like I said, that's just a rumor."

Square most likely will be producing for it, and the GameCube too. Square's next Final Fantasy will be completely online, and for that to work, they have to put it on all of the next generation consoles. Especially the XBox and GameCube, though.

Mainly because the XBox focuses on internet gaming alot, and alot of Final Fantasy fans still resides on Nintendo's side. The Nintendo fans might not want to buy it because of the online gaming thing, though.

Oh, and I agreed. Those games you mentioned is cool. I just wish Grand Theft Auto 3 is on the GameCube, though.

"7. Microsoft is, of course, making the X-Box for money. I mean like Sony and Nintndo are doing it out of the goodness of thier heart?"

Yeah, we know that. But Nintendo and Sony have proven themselves.

Nintendo proven themselves with their million selling first-party games, and Sony proves that they can take good care of themselves even against the seemingly unstoppable Nintendo. They even had the guts to release the Playstation right after the MASSIVE success of the SNES. Do you know what a hugh risk that was?

Microsoft is a newcomer, so it still has to prove itself.

"8. The X-Box is actually a decent deal. It's just as much as a PS2 only most of the stuff that would have to be added on to a PS2 come with the X-Box."

True.

"9. The infamous "It's MS so it will crash" argument is also irrational. I mean it doesn't run Windows, which I agree sucks, in fact i'm not sure if it runs any OS really. Even if it did, however, it's proven that as compatability go up, stability go down. Therefore Windows is very unstable."

Actually, that argument is now plausible. XBox crashed at the world most famous video game convention, E3. They crashed in front of dozens of video game developers. Do you think this will go well for them?

"10. Everybody talks about how X-Boxes are defective, and I even heard one person say how MS was being sued... well that's just bull. I mean less than 1% of the consoles sold, or around 100-200 consoles, were defective. Sony and Nintendo posted about the same number of defective consoles."

And where did you get this information?

In actuality, Sony had a much higher number of defective systems, and Nintendo practically had none.

Oh, and I agree with that suing thing. I can sympathized with those people who are suing Microsoft if they got hurt because of the defective system, though.

"11. Oh yes, the controller. If you don't like it then good for you, but they make third party controllers you know."

Yeah, but why spend more money on third-party controllers when you could be getting the original controllers? And this present a problem if the original controllers sucks.

I don't want to have to buy third party controllers. If I buy them, then it should be because I WANT them, not because I NEED them.

"12. The "X-Box is just a PC argument" Well X-Box is NOT a PC. It does have some PC parts, but is no more a PC than a GameCube or PS2... well not really a GameCube because that runs off of the PowerPC processor."

False. It is true that all of the consoles contain computer parts, but XBox is by far the closest to a computer.

So close, in fact, that you have to istall some games on its hard-drive. Do you need to do that with the PS2, DreamCast, or GameCube?

"That's all I can think of for now. Have a nice day and keep this topic flame free."

You come onto a Mario supporting site, and start pointing out some things about the Xbox, and tell them to keep this thing flame-free?

I haven't read the other posts yet, so I don't know if it is flame free or not, but good luck, my friend.

Lieutenant Eagle.

Considering that you already answer my other post, then you must know about the Stone of Agony now, so I'll answer your other question.

The gold rubee is worth 200.And no, it is not call a big rubee. Although some people might call the purple rubee that, though.

The Stone of Agony is the special item in the game that helps you interact with it more.

You can get it from the cursed family of Kakariko after killing 20 skulltulas, I think. Anyway, after you get it, it will help you find secrets.

If you have a rumble pak, the Stone of Agony will make your controller rumble everytime you get near a secret.

When I saw the title of this topic, I thought you were going to name 10 Nintendo characters. I didn't realize that you were going to name other people on the board.

Anyway, when I saw that you were doing that, I was kind of hoping I was on there. I didn't get my hopes too high, though, because I was new.

Anyway, thanks for me on the list. And yes, it is true that I am a hugh Nintendo fan, but I am also unbiased against the other systems.

Cable.

To get the Fire Tunic, head to Death Mountain and go into the Goron village. When you go there, you will see that the place is empty.

However, there is a single small Goron rolling around. Get near him, then throw a bomb to stop. You have to time it right.

When you stop him, then he will talk to you for a little while. After you comfort him, he will show you a secret passage to the fire temple, and give you the Fire Tunic.

I didn't say everybody hate Final Fantasy 7, I mean that everybody hate Final Fantasy 8.

Anyway, you've beat 2 out of 3 WEAPONS? What are you talking about? There are 4 WEAPONS, and 5 if you include the one Shinra killed.

And which three did you killed? It is obvious that you killed Diamond and Ultimate, but then what? Ruby or Emerald?

I think it is more likely that you killed Emerald, though. Because while Emerald has a much higher HP than Ruby, Ruby is about 3 times harder to killed than Emerald.

Lieutenant Eagle.

Do you remember the place where you get the Silver Scale as a kid? You have to talk to that Zora at the end of the tunnel to the left of King Zora.

Well, go there as an adult, but don't jump off! Instead, look to your left and you will see a skulltula. Use your hookshot to get it.

And yes, if you free all of the curse people, then you will get a gold rubee. But do you want to know an easier way?

Okay then, go to the middle of Kakariko village. That should be between the tree and the house where Talon resides when you're a grown up. Throw a bomb in the middle of the place you're at and a hole should open up. Go in, kill the monsters down there, and open the chest to find a gold rubee. You can do this as a kid or a grown up.

Game Help / Re: I'm feeling very jealous, I don't have a GameCube yet!

Well, no company ever went into any kind of business to compete, but if you have been with Nintendo since the NES, then you know that they competed with Sega.

This was why the SNES had so many great games, because this was during the time Sega was a major competitor for Nintendo.

Although none of Sega's systems has ever reach the popularity of the SNES(No system in the present has done that either as a matter of fact), they did do pretty well.

While Sony and Microsoft is pretty much a competitor of Nintendo, Nintendo and Sony doesn't really seem to be caring about Microsoft, and only each other.

Just because Microsoft launch with the most powerful system doesn't mean that it will win the console war.

Because the sales prove that. When Sony and Nintendo launch with their system, after their consoles has been solded out, their #1 game has become million sellers.

Super Smash Brothers for Nintendo, and Metal Gear Solid for Sony. However, last time I check, Halo for the XBox only sold 95,000 copies.

So this proves that power doesn't sell systems. So even though Microsoft's system is more closely related to the GameCube, it should be competing with Sony.

Sony and Microsoft cater to the mature market, unlike Nintendo, who caters to everyone. It will take them much longer to steal Nintendo's market than each other.

So if either one of them is too busy trying to steal the GameCube market, then they might find that the other has already stolen theirs.

That's why Sony and Microsoft should be competing with each other instead of GameCube. The only system I can see that should compete with GameCube is DreamCast, but those morons at Sony already killed them.

No, that wouldn't suck. It would be good. The more games Nintendo get the rights to, the more exclusives it would have. And the more exclusives it have, the more fans it would have.

Maybe you might not like Popeye, but there are people who does.

Retro? I'll be surprise if Nintendo doesn't already own that!

Retro is a very good company, though. They consist of good developers from Various companies.

Although Retro is new, they did come to the newer GameCube instead of the already established Playstation 2. So that must mean that they are more partial to Nintendo, or maybe they just want to make a sequel to the super popular Metroid. If they do that, then they'll make millions.

Final Fantasy 7 was very good in my opinion. But the Final Fantasies before it was great too. All of the Final Fantasies above it was horrible, and I find it funny that you happen to like the one Final Fantasy that everybody seem to hate.

Anyway, you're just beginning to fight the WEAPONS? I've beaten them, but it took me a LONG time. Now, I can beat them on my first try.

Good luck on beating those super powerful WEAPONS like Emerald and Ruby.

Lietenant Eagle? Yes, there is a gold rubee in Zelda:Ocarina of Time. As a matter of fact, there are MANY of time. If you want to know where to find some, then ask me.

Anyway, about your skulltula problem. If you hear their scratching, then there IS a skulltula in the place, Just look very closely and use the right equipment for it. That's all I can tell you until you give me more specific details.
